"DFL strips Omar Fateh's endorsement for Minneapolis mayor"
August 21, 2025
by Madison Hunter

Frey's campaign said there was an extraordinarily high number of missing or uncounted votes. They say the voting system is "highly flawed" and "untested."

The campaign said 578 votes were counted in the mayoral ballot, despite more than 1,000 delegates and alternates being checked in at the time of the first ballot.

DFL Party Chairman Richard Carlborn says the decision to remove the mayoral endorsement comes after a review of the challenges found "substantial failures" in the DFL convention's voting process, and "acknowledgment that a mayoral candidate was errantly eliminated from contention."

The CRBC findings after the review show that the voting system for endorsement produced a very inaccurate count of the first, undercounted by 176 votes.

The findings also state that the entire Ward 5 credentials books were lost by the Minneapolis DFL, causing delegates to have to re-establish delegate status. Additionally, the master check-in sheet at registration was not properly secured.

The Minneapolis DFL is now barred by the CBRC from conducting another 2025 mayoral endorsing convention, or even endorsing a candidate on their own.

Also, the Minneapolis DFL has been placed on two years' probation by the CBRC under the supervision of the DFL State Executive Committee. After two years, they have to submit a best practices plan.

Discussion: How can ordinary people verify elections? Public watchers? Public cameras? Paper ballots?

Thank you.

Wow.

Not obscure at all. Certainly a major political force.. Farmers and labor?

Together?

The DFL was the backbone of center left and liberal politics in Minnesota for decades.
I can't guess what's behind this failure right now but it might have some vague connection to the after effects of the recent shootings of two of the DFL's most beloved members.
It really does sound more like the party is falling apart instead of sinking into corruption, it's like the underlings don't know how to function anymore.
It sounds SLOPPY.

How 1930's....

A regional national party.

I would say it was more a response to Minnesota's unique role in America IN the Thirties.
Back then, Democrats were still aligned with the Klan in rural regions, and Republicans were still stinging from the Great Depression, so if you wanted
to attract blue collar labor, your options were limited and socialism wasn't going to play well, so that was out, too.

In the 1930's if you wanted to get connected to the mob in Minnesota you didn't have to look far beyond St. Paul, and Minneapolis had its own share of gangster hideouts back then too.

I think the Democrats should be allowed to disqualify a Communist if they choose.

Does a Communist really meet the standards of a Democrat? I'd like to hear that justification.

He was not “disqualified”. They withdrew their endorsement. Supposedly for procedural reasons.

It's not like establishment "normal" Democrats are doing a bang-up job.

Oh, I was thinking DFL maybe stood for Democratic Far Left. I hate acronyms when they are not defined before being used, or at least somewhere within the text.
