imo, The civil war in Syria has the potential to turn into a regional and possible world conflict.
While preliminary indications are gas was used. What has not been determined is who used the gas.
One should ask yourself, If the US does a unilateral strike against Syria, will the people of Syria and the world respect us or hate us? If the US does not strike Syria, but takes the case against the Syrian govt to the UN, will the people of Syria and the world respect us or hate us.
President Obama can easily backtrack by stating he wants to see the UN investigation report and wants a definitive report that shows who did the gas attack. Then he will take the case to the world on what should be done. Going alone is not in the US best interest at this time.
I find it interesting that you want to see the President of the United States shamed. That just doesn't seem normal.
Sending troops to war when they do not believe it is the special niche held by Demokrats. It is not Republicans who as a party vote to send troops to war for political expediency and then screw them when they're on the battlefield... also for political expediency. It's not Republican Senate Majority or Minority leaders who declare to our enemies "This War is Lost".
Back in 1969 when I was only 19 years old and was 10,000 miles from home it was no secret that it was the Democrats who got America involved in a shooting war in Southeast Asia. It was the Democrats who sent combat troops into harmsway. And it was the Democrats who eventually stabbed the American soldiers in the back and abandoned supporting the war.
That's when I said when I turn 21 years of age and I register to vote I'm not going to register as a Democrat. I registered as a Republican because I never heard of a Republican ever back stabbing American soldier in the back and abandoning them when they are still on the battlefield.
Again, your perceptions would not be those of a sane human being, somewhere in the realm of normal.

The Demokrats openly admit their vote to send America to war is about party politics. It is not about what is best for America, but what will protect Obama from shame and humiliation.
They did the same when it came to Iraq War 2. They were seen as a party weak on matters of national defense/national security, and to help themselves politically they voted to send troops to war. The Senate Demokrats even asked for a second symbolic vote to show they were not the anti-American party they had been perceived to be after 911.
Then these same Demokrats (except one lone wolf called Lieberman) turned on a popular president and troops on the battlefield who were having a tough time... for political expediency.
The vote to send America to war is the most serious vote an elected representative can make... it's not a party politics thing, but as we have learned... for Demokrats it is. This is why these idiots should be kept as far from the reigns of power as possible.

From what I hear from those serving, Obama has never earned the respect from those who serve under his command.

Dwight D. Eisenhower was a Republican he as I recall from my 5th grade history teacher the President that got us involved in Vietnam backing the French. Sure Lyndon Johnson was the one that upped the troops, but history shows America troops were on the ground before Kennedy! So your beloved Republican party has put plenty of knives in the backs of our service men! Nice try though

No, actually, the first American military mission, advisors, and personnel in Vietnam occurred in 1950, under Truman, after the "Vietnam War" had been underway for a few years.
