What are your thoughts on minimum wage with the current pandemic and its obvious negative effect on the economy?

Have you all completely given up on that issue?

I agree with you, it's more important than ever.

The data does not remotely support the idea that minimum wage increases are devastating to the economy. Rejected.

Democrats don't care about economics.... well, other than raising taxes.

I think it is needed more than ever right now since we have a bunch of right wing losers who think they have the right to endanger these people because they are big ******s and refuse to wear masks.

Target has been giving their employees a 2 dollar an hour bonus through the pandemic and after the 4th of July it will be permanent... I guess Target hasn't read the memo on the 'obvious negative effect' it is having on the economy... :peace

Forgot- the bonus and them perm pay rate is 15 an hour.

The economy can never regain strength paying workers low wages it's simple matter of fact. Therefore I put forward a minimum wage of $17.50 per hour = only $33,000 per year.

Some economic growth can happen.

As for the COVID activity:

Thank the anti-American GOP for COVID 19 plus 100,000 deaths. The GOP did nothing for more than 3 years ....... they are murderers ........

It did not need to be this way!!!

Trump admin did nothing for 3 years despite being advised multiple times of a potential pandemic. That is lame and stupid.

Just not as important as knocking down statues and stuff.

How does a strong and growing economy lend itself to job uncertainty, debt, bankruptcy, and economic fear for a vast number of Americans?

Free Lunch provides answers to this great economic mystery of our time, revealing how today’s government policies and spending reach deep into the wallets of the many for the benefit of the wealthy few.

David Cay Johnston cuts through the official version of events and shows how, under the guise of deregulation, a whole new set of regulations quietly went into effect—regulations that thwart competition, depress wages and reward misconduct.

"An exhaustive litany of federal, state and even local giveaways to the very wealthy, described in agonizing and depressing detail...Without solutions, this remains little more than a list of grievances." - Kirkus Reviews.

"“With clarity, conciseness, and cool, fact-saturated analysis, Mr. Johnston, the premier investigative reporter on how industry and commerce shift risks and costs to taxpayers, sends the ultimate message to all Americans—either we demand to have a say or we will continue to pay, pay, and pay." - Ralph Nader.

Democrats don't care about economics.... well, other than raising taxes.

They care very much. They care enough to look up the historic data, and discover that there is no correlation between moderate increases in min wage and either unemployment or inflation.

Republicans don't care about facts or the well being of others, they just care about their rhetoric.

not a complete lie as long as you qualify it with the undefined 'moderate'. Other wise there is plenty of data pointing to a negative correlation. Then of course there is common sense.

Who pays for wage increase? How does say a small business like a burger stand pay for a minimum wage increase other than one or more of the following:

Raise prices and pass that onto customers---- many who are not exactly rich.
Change the size or value of the product / offer less for the same price or eliminate other items or services
Cut operating expenses by lessening hours of operation
Cut employee shifts to save salary expenses
Lay off some employees and hope everyone just works harder
Owner takes a pay cut, accepts to make less profits even despite his personal investment.

None of these are great options to most small businesses which make up larger portion of the minimum wage work force. Raising prices or cutting value is a huge risk because at the point the consumer feels they aren't getting the value anymore causing you to lose a customer--- making the losses even deeper.

About the only way to overcome the additional cost in labor with all other factors remaining is to exponentially increase your sales thus mitigating the rise in labor expenses over a larger market share. Something very difficult to do for a small business already operating on a razor thin margin against a lot of other competition in the specific category of business they are in.

Minimum wage jobs were never meant to sustain someone without other income sources. Generally low skilled entry level jobs for young people while living it home, second household wage earners, or older retired people earning a little extra income. If anything minimum wage needs to be lowered and people taught to have better expectations and/or strive for higher goals in life. $2-3 more dollars to most of these willfully unskilled and uneducated people is like for a drug addict just adding a couple of more specks of drug to their addiction of choice. It won't help them in the long run, but it will keep them addicted to more help from the government.

The taxpayers are sick and tired of corporations and businesses not paying a living wage to their workers...why because those underpaid workers need help to live
and the taxpayer has to pay for it...business needs to bankroll the programs to help these underpaid people...

The rich control every part of your life from birth to death...they need to step up and create a system that has a minimum quality of life rather than taking everything out and putting nothing back in...

It's more important to kill jobs and lower income than ever? Oooo-kay.

Demand for the product not the wage paid the employee determines what kills job. Eco 101

Enough with the greedy heartless Trump lying crap.

WTF?

How did you come up with this gem?

This statement is complete and utter nonsense.

The minimum wag came about because unbridled capitalism leaves workers desperate and hungry.

Mind melding, the things you read on message boards.

I think it is needed more than ever right now since we have a bunch of right wing losers who think they have the right to endanger these people because they are big ******s and refuse to wear masks.

A minimum wage of $15.00 is likely to low because it is not a living wage. A higher minimum wage is a boost to the economy in the same way that the recent $1200 stimulus checks and a guaranteed basic income works. You still seem to think that paying them less mans that you get mo

There is also a basic m oral idea that of that jobs needs to be done for society to survive and be stable then they deserve the ability to live at a reasonable quality of life on that income. Do you not understand that if you pay them less than the gap between a living wage and that low minimum wage is made up by payouts from the social safety net such as SNAP, rent support and general welfare benefits?

Wealth still travels up in a society but now it would pass though a few more hands before it gets to the top and is withdrawn from general circulation.

Why is it that conservatives dont understand that we live in a interdependent society and accept that the higher minimum wage benefits everyone because that money is spent many times over which boosts the economy. I wish that the basic concepts of macro economics were more understood.

Artificially inflated wages kill income and jobs every time.

Lol, this stupid liberal **** has been going on long before Trump, with the same result every time. Enough with the leftist loonery lying crap.
