Funny how that works.

And, interestingly, this guy was a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Section XVI of Maine's State constitution states:

To keep and bear arms. Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.

If Rep. Golden wants to prohibit a certain type of Arms, then he must first amend Section XVI.

He could change it to something like this:

Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned EXCEPT with regards to certain types of Arms. These types of Arms can and may be questioned.

Funny how that works.

That's a political reaction to save his job. I can't say I blame him but because he's in a tough situation in his district but he's caving on whatever conviction he had to keep his job. Problem for him is Maine is a 2nd amendment state. I don't think they will make a huge change because of one guy with mental issues.

But it's not about "one guy with mental health issues" is it? It's about 22 dead people. Children growing up without parents. Brothers who have lost sisters and sisters who have lost brothers. Parents who have lost children, and grandparents who might now never have grandchildren. It's about their traumatized friends and work colleagues. It's about the 1000's who no longer feel safe going about their daily lives. It's about even more people buying everything online and leaving their houses to join the community less than they used to. It's about the school children that will probably soon be taken through more active shooter training 'just to be safe'. And beyond that there are ~50 other people shot who will have huge medical bills to sort out and possibly permanent damage to their bodies and lives. Their families who have to live without their loved ones while they get well, and any associated cost for medical care, lost earnings etc. How do you 'fix' the children who thought one of their parents was going to die? How do you fix the people who didn't get shot but watched those around them dying? What about their families who knew they were in the area of the shootings and were worried sick until they found out their loved ones were safe?

Thinking that this is about one guy with mental health problems is where we get this sort of stuff so incredibly wrong. That totally undermines the real impact of these events and totally diminishes the need for us to do a hell of a lot better than we are currently doing.

I wonder if he saw all of the interviews with citizens who said that they immediately grabbed their firearms. I find it interesting that he would change his stance when the guilt should be on the institutions that let this guy go after he made threats to kill national guardsmen. The guilt should go to the state and a lack of mental health facilities that could take someone like this and keep them.

I just said in another thread, all the gun safety proponents need is a like-minded Supreme Court majority. The pendulum will eventually swing that way.

I bet if the people at that bowling alley were armed they would have stood a better chance at stopping him

He, and many people like him, are probably just seeing that they are in trouble politically for their position and are switching it for that reason. I'd prefer people who got it right before events forced them to be politically threatened.

Congratulations. Another idiot who thinks banning pistol grips on rifles will save lives.

When is that 6-3 radical right-wing majority going to change?

Obviously. All of us should be armed: when bowling, in church, at school, at the supermarket, in bed, in the hospital, at wakes and weddings. That’s how to build a homicide free society.

I rather have a gun and not need it than need a gun and not have it

Or you could just go bowling and not worry about getting shot, just like you don't worry about the ten times higher likelihood of being killed in a car wreck on the way to the bowling alley.

Like all the people who want to ban cars because they cause so many deaths, right?

Let's be consistent.

*standing by for the standard retarded "but cars aren't meant to kill people durr durr durr" response*
Try the voting clientele that live in his CD. Golden doesn’t vote for GOP insurrectionists.
