Link: 16-Year-Old identified in fatal New Orleans East armed robbery

Executive Summary: 16 yr-old choirboy goes to a convenience store for some good old-fashioned property & wealth redistribution. To facilitate the process, he thoughtfully brought along a pistol with an extended magazine. When he got distracted, the clerk produced his own pistol and converted Choirboy's status to that of organ donor. Choirboy's 18 yr old accomplice was also shot but survived, and is now facing a variety of felonies.

Do they still have the death penalty in Louisiana? Asking for a friend.

A joyful story to take our minds off of the horror in NOLA. Clerk takes care of two armed robbers.

Look, I carry. A gun saved my life or another’s I was responsible for more than once. All work related.

All I’d ask though is that those who access that privilege also take on the added responsibility that comes with it. Know how to care for and protect access to that firearm when not on your person, retain possession when it is on one’s person, and be able to use it properly under duress in time of need (starting with when is their a lawful need).

That takes training, and I believe there should be ongoing licensing to determine if the public safety is being upheld by a standardized level of such training.

Untrained people with fire arms are a danger, not a blessing, to the public welfare. There are far too many of them. My career experience has exposed me to much of the chaos the untrained with a gun in their hand, or not secured and taken by others, can be to the public. Even if their intentions are good it can be a problem. They just don’t know enough about how to use it when they are under high degrees of stress, and unintended consequences occur.

A trained gun owner with a firearm can be a service to the public welfare at precisely that moment it is the factor between life and illegal death/mayhem. An untrained one is a detriment, a potential causation of unlawful death/mayhem.

It is not unreasonable to ask gun owners who wish to carry their firearms to know how to use them properly and to prove that on an ongoing basis. Just as I do twice annually. Which I did voluntarily for insurance purposes and to follow state law but now that I’m officially retired from both the public and private sectors may reduce to the federal minimum once annually to maintain my RPO (retired law enforcement credential).

It's a right not a privilege. Sure you can ask gunners to jump through hoops but you can't require it. Again it's a right we are licensed by the second amendment in perpetuity.

There's nothing wrong with trading I think it's really rather simple and you don't really have to spend a lot of time on it.
