DC Mayor With a Majority-Minority Police Force Feels “Powerless” To Stop Gun Violence Killing African-American Kids | redstate.com

The sad reality of today is that there are a dozen or more stories across the country from just the last few days of African-American children dying from gun shots — and none were fired from the weapon of a police officer.

The reports out of city after city over the past few weeks about record numbers of deaths from gunshots are just almost mind-numbing.

SNIP

But I want to call attention to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s press conference earlier today about the shooting death of 11 year old Davon McNeal on July 4th, while his mother was hosting a “nonviolence” cookout at the home she shared with the little boy.

Bowser said there is no “magic answer” or singular budgetary solution to stop gun violence. But she added that people should resist giving up on progress. “That’s what we have to fight against: feeling powerless to stop gun violence,” Bowser said…..

After a weekend of violence, Bowser said the District is fighting both a pandemic and a health crisis related to gun violence. “This should not have happened and it cannot keep happening,” she said. “We can’t continue to lose our children to senseless gun violence.”
This is just idiocy beyond the pale. Mayor Bowser — you are losing children to criminals, not “senseless gun violence.”

Black female mayor, majority of the police are minorities, all black city council and ward leaders.

All Democrats.

I've come to the conclusion conservatives will never, ever understand just how deep the issues leading to this violence are, and therefore they'll never be able to fix them. They boil it down to "well the mayor is a Democrat therefore the violence is the fault of Democrats." I just don't know how to talk to people who think in such an absurdly simplistic fashion. Like trying to tell a cat about the philosophical works of Plato. Not only do they not understand, they'd never give two ****s about it if they did.

Don't be dissing cats now. Mine are much smarter than Trump voters.

Obviously, Deuce, democrats have had 40-60 years to solve it, and it's only gotten worse.

How do you explain that?

Are you under the impression that Republicans have solved these issues?

Are you under the impression that Republicans have solved these issues?

Are you unable to answer a simple question? Apparently not. Democrats control these areas not republicans. What are democrats going to do about it and why havent they done anything to improve the situation over the last 50 years. Try and focus and coe up with an answer that doesnt amount to 'but, republicans.' 5 bucks says you cant do it.

It's gotten worse because the War on Drugs, escalated by President Nixon only a handful of years after the Civil Rights Movement, is the latest iteration of the Southern Strategy to target black people by targeting poor people with a health problem mischaracterized as a criminal problem. That was easy! :)

Are you under the impression that Republicans have solved these issues?

Republicans have been successfully sued by democrats, liberals, progressives, the ACLU and lawyers who eat this **** for breakfast to stop any intervention in allowing them to destroy their cities and people. The drugs, addictions, violent crime, gangs, homelessness, and every other social ill blanketing liberal cities is a product of this decades long legal fight.

Congrats! You guys won in court! It's okay to overdose on the sidewalk now! HURRAY!

Now they don't even want cops anymore. Good luck with that dumbassery.

Easy, but incorrect.

You can't be serious.

"these areas" implies these problems exist only in certain areas, further proving you don't understand the problem at all.

It's not "but, Republicans." It's "but, literally the entire country for literal centuries."

“You want to know what this was really all about?” he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left to protect. “The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

For 20 years I've been trying and failing to understand how our past leadership could be so stupid as to so obviously mischaracterize a health problem as a criminal problem and then let our prison populations to swell by a factor of 7 as a result. The Southern Strategy is the only thing that even begins to make sense to me, and it fits almost perfectly with the timeline of other historical events and trends. Virtually every time black people have had a political victory, the Southern Strategy almost immediately evolved to counteract it. That Nixon launched the War on Drugs only a handful of years after the Civil Rights Act is not a coincidence in my mind.

"That was easy! :)" ...was it? How have Democratic Party policies resolved this "health crisis" in the cities they control? Have the numbers dwindled, or are they skyrocketing? Is the problem getting better, or has it spiraled out of control?

Does Nixon's ghost live under your bed? Is that where he creates all this chaos from?

See post 12, Mr. Person brought up some links.

What numbers are you asking have dwindled? Drug abusers or the prison population? I don't believe the number of drug addicts have dwindled much, but the number of prisoners have swelled from 300k to over 2.2 million (a factor of more than 7 times) due to Nixon's (and later Reagan's) drug war.

The first task of government is security and order. If they can't or won't accomplish that, they need to be replaced by people who will. The people most suffering from this are their own law abiding black citizens. We need to stop using the racial prism in these matters. Crime is crime no matter who does it and who the victims are.

Sorry, Mr Person, Democrats and the ACLU have successfully won the right to prevent intervention in Democratic Party inner city social ills. For every person Republicans would like to help, 15 liberals are there to prevent it.

But I'll pose the same questions to you:

How have Democratic Party policies resolved this "health crisis" in the cities they control? Have the numbers dwindled, or are they skyrocketing? Is the problem getting better, or has it spiraled out of control?

Yea, let's legalize all drugs.

Yea, let's legalize all drugs. It's worked so well with opioids. This is akin to saying that you haven't cured the cancer so you'll assist its growth. Stopping one evil by replacing it with another is hardly an answer. I can't imagine a worse idea.

The issue is simply these mayors do not want to crack down on the gangs and thugs destroying their city.
why? because in that process some of these people are going to get killed.

however I don't see that as an issue. These people are no better than wild animals running the streets.
The only justice they deserve is a 45 to the head.

They are out there shooting and killing numerous people and she can't harp on it because the shooters aren't the right skin color.
what does she do? she blames inanimate objects for her failure to get these people under control.

which is the typical bull**** thing that leftist do. blame something else for the problem instead of the responsible parties.

If all the inner city problems were solved, liberals and Democrats would become irrelevant. They have a vested interest in not solving them.

I know you didn't ask me, but when it comes to perpetuating the human rights atrocity that is the War on Drugs, BOTH parties are absolutely filthy.

I'm supportive of prison reform and rehabilitative efforts. In fact, I believe we need to rebuild in-patient mental hospitals, begin a jobs training-trade school model for prisoners who will reenter society, and then offer more support during transition.

However, we will always needs high security prisons for the violent and dangerous. It's just a sad fact of humanity.

which has 0 to do with the fact that these thugs take a gun and shoot up neighborhoods for no reason other than the fact that some person who didn't know better
looked the wrong way at the wrong time.

these animals will shoot you and take you out for nothing more than not crossing the street.
they have no respect for anyone or anything.

But Bowser felt VERY powerful when she had "BLACK LIVES MATTER" painted writ large right in the backyard of the White House. So empowered when she was giving the middle finger to Trump, even though anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together fully understood it would lead to mobs and riots.
She baked the cake. Supplied all the ingredients herself. Now she doesn't like how it tastes.

Too bad. People are dying and she's got the blood of children on her hands.
