Could you take out an active shooter?

Could you take him out before he kills dozens more?

Yes, I am living in the U.K. I'm in a very isolated rural area, so I've been lucky as far as coronavirus is concerned as it seems to affect the big cities more....

I am from Sheffield but also lived in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Scotland, South Wales and the worst place made by man, Grimsby

For once being in the middle of nowhere has turned out to be an advantage.

I guess there are benefits to living in the sticks

One thing I hate here in Atlanta is not being able to walk anywhere....it's so spread out.

In Llantrisant, Mid-Glamorgan, I could walk to no less than 4 pubs

I see your profile says you are from Georgia. Is it nice there? :)

It's going to be 86 degrees on Sunday according to the forecast....I have a small pool to and we're opining it tomorrow for the Summer.

Yeah. I'd probably feel awful, but wanting to help and actually being able to help aren't the same thing sadly. I think you just have to do what you can and hope it is enough.

Check out some You Tube videos (there's an interesting channel called Active Self Protection - ASP) that shows lots of surveillance camera footage. Many times an armed citizen tries to intervene in a robbery and gets shot, sometimes fatally.

If I was say in a mall on my own and an active shooter started firing, my first instinct would be to duck...the look for a way out.

I feel you left your sentence about keyboard commandos unfinished....I don't target shoot and Georgia does allow concealed carry with a CCW of which I have one.

Please lie again. Georgia does not issue CCW. If you actually had one you would know.

You can have a gun on school grounds in Georgia if its secured in your car, but not school buildings

And a concern about arming teachers is that when law enforcement arrive, they look like the bad guy(s).

You seem to have it in your mind that armed teachers are going to be running rampant through the halls shooting. That LE won't have a heads up and probably already know which teachers are armed.

I'm just south of Grimsby near Mablethorpe and Skegness area so it is fairly local to me. And yeah, Grimsby is god dam awful and the two hour bus ride is quite a drag (it goes via Louth) but it has the nearest Primark store to me which is handy if I need to get some cheap t-shirts and jeans. I might browse the waterstones bookshop or eat out but that is it. I've yet to sit and eat at the weatherspoons there, but I've used the train station a few times. :D

Yeah, that sounds about right. In reality, nothing ever goes according to plan.

You are "in the mall on my own" is not what the OP presented as the scene.

I agree with you that in a non crowed mall and hearing gun fire I would most likely find and exit and call 911.

Wouldn't you feel bad knowing that you might've been able to stop the shooter but you didn't even try?
Wouldn't you feel bad if you tried and ended up shooting someone besides the shooter, which is a very good possibility?

Yes it would be bad. It would be bad if an LEO shot someone else besides the shooter. In the OP situation, it is presented that you see the shooter. The shooter is killing kids and teachers.

Right next to the...I'm a chicken sh*t coward and only think of myself button.

I don't own a firearm so no I'm not rushing into any shooting incident I will however have my camera going to take pictures of your running in. Oh wait, you and the president. You want to be canon fodder it's fine with me.

Okay, this shootout involving 8 FBI agents and two bad guys changed gun training in America.

1986 FBI Miami shootout - Wikipedia

If you've ever trained to reload and shoot one handed, it's because of the 1986 shootout. Distance were like 11 feet.

Even if the shooter is a teen, you'd have to assume he's fired a lot of round in target practice. In addition to that, he might be planning to die which could make his shooting steadier. And he has a lot more ammo than you. And he has a range advantage with his rifle.

Still, if you get off a few rounds in his direction, it might reduce his accuracy. And you might get lucky.

Hope he's close when you stick your head out the door. For me, I'd want him 30 feet away or closer.

I guess surprise is your biggest advantage. The shooter isn't likely ready for someone to resist.

Or rather, if you're armed, take cover. Look for the nearest exit and when you think the shooting is not in your direction, run for it

Remember DON'T just run away, run towards something like better cover or an exit door.

Call 911.

And have fun living with yourself afterwards knowing you might have been able to do something but ran away instead.

What is better, the active shooter kills 50 kids or kills you?

If he kills me, perhaps that is one less kid loses his life. Maybe it saves even more if I put up a decent fight.

You go ahead and stay in the truck though.

Me. If give my life to save 50 children. Who says he kills me? These people pick targets where nobody will shoot back at them. If someone did it would likely stop them. They don't prepare for that. Gun control grants them a shooting gallery.

I dont know; My time spent shooting in Iraq and Afghanistan isn't quite the same as returning fire in an Elementary School.....I would like to say yes, but hypothetical scenarios leave too much unanswered.

I said YES because I would have a strong indication where the fire was coming from. hypothetical scenario? Yeah. But every time you leave your house it is.

Because stopping a mass shooter is a bad thing?

No it's a gallant objective, you go right ahead

Me. If give my life to save 50 children. Who says he kills me?

"Giving" your life would normally be taken to mean he had done

No, guns and there ready availability grant them a "shooting gallery".

And have fun living with yourself afterwards knowing you might have been able to do something but ran away instead.

Operative word: "living"

Alternatively you could get lucky and shoot dead the active shooter and spend months with your lawyers trying to stay out of jail plus more months will your analyst helping you with post traumatic stress.

Yes but the OP said a school, and you just can't carry inside school buildings, so I transferred the scenario to a mall.

You're going to get in trouble with Rich you know. It's good that you would, but is that sarcasm?

I am not here to make friends. I conceal carry and train to be ready

You seem to have it in your mind that armed teachers are going to be running rampant through the halls shooting. That LE won't have a heads up and probably already know which teachers are armed.

The school resource officer might, not the first cops who respond.

I know Skeggy, it used to be a regular weekend destination for my family when I was a mere kidlington

That and Cleethorpes...I can almost still taste the sand in your chips

I grew up in a village called Todwick off the A57

Yeah, that sounds about right. In reality, nothing ever goes according to plan.

What did Napoleon once say?

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

=PirateMk1;1071878326]He's honest. Though I doubt he knows what he would do, most people dont have the opportunity to test their metal and hence dont know how they would react.

I know I'm not itching to test it out but yeah I would if confronted. I think as most are and would.

I think now I have less for you and more for Rich. At least I know where he stands (Rich that's a compliment, for what it's worth)
He's got more respect from me than you do. He's honest. You just make crack remarks about which you obviously know nothing. Have you tested your metal? Were you found wanting? No need to answer. I am not interested in measuring dicks especially with a know nothing.

What do you know about Da Mole to make an assessment like that?

No, absolutely not

Not if I thought I could escape

Caveat : also includes family/friends I was with

OK if armed you wouldn't. Why would you even bother being armed in the first place then? Yeah you said caveat, what IF some of the kids were yours or family related? Would you then?
