Could This Actually Be The End Of Fox News? No Really...Could It Be?

If I remember correctly it's a defamation suit. So Dominion has to prove malice, which is a steep order.
I have seen malice listed as a requirement but perhaps there are different manners for doing that. This is according to Cornell Law School.

"To prove prima facie defamation, a plaintiff must show four things: 1) a false statement purporting to be fact; 2) publication or communication of that statement to a third person; 3) fault amounting to at least negligence; and 4) damages, or some harm caused to the reputation of the person or entity who is the subject ..."

The whole Fox News business model is predicated on telling their Trump-loving audience of unsophisticated imbecile MAGA goobers what they want to hear. Constantly.

So too, do the political "leaders" they support. They don't lead, they say what will get them the ratings. We saw this with Trump when he tried to affirm the vaccine with his supporters and they booed him. He had never repeated it.

It is essentially mob rule.

Time will tell.

Add election interference to the mix of sins.

“During Trump’s campaign, Rupert provided Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner, with Fox confidential information about Biden’s ads, along with debate strategy,” the filing declared. The filing didn’t elaborate on how Murdoch assisted with “debate strategy.”

“These actions by Rupert Murdoch seem illegal,” said Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.). “At the very least, it would appear to be a campaign contribution of significant value, well over federal campaign limits.”
“Trump falsely accused Biden of ‘spying on his campaign,’” commented the progressive PAC MeidasTouch. “Today, it was revealed that Trump and Fox News colluded to *actually* spy on Biden’s campaign. Every accusation is always a confession.”

Liberals would be foolish to celebrate. If this is the end of Fox they will just get replaced. It could be worse....you know.....like it would if Kamala replaces Joe.

Breitbart is worse, so is OAN or Newsmax, so Fox viewers will still find outlets for their pablum.

Oh, I don't think any of us are under any illusions that Fox would not be replaced by something likely far more insidious. After all, anyone who has watched that network over the last couple of decades has watched a series of horrible, lying hosts be replaced by even worse people pushing messages further detached from anything resembling reality. Hell, someone like Bill O'Reilly, who was the flagship of that network a decade ago, would be considered too moderate and agreeable if he were around today.

If Fox News can no longer lie to their lemming audience without losing billions of dollars in court, then their lemming audience will go elsewhere.

Trumpsters want to be lied to. They don't care if the shit they hear on Fox News is actually true or not. If these MAGA cry babies can no longer hear the constant lies that make them happy, then they will go somewhere else to hear those lies.
And because Rupert has banned his hack "stars" from discussing the Dominion law suit, to fox viewers, it's FAKE NEWS. Can't fix stupid.

I did a thread on Fox News

And the Fox News minions were apoplectic. HOW DARE we question Fox News.

Well, dumb is as dumb does, what else needs to be said?
And you did it!

From a journalistic standpoint, which is or will be evidence, once appraised of an intent to seek legal damages, it is incumbent on the defendant to investigate themselves. It is their last opportunity to say "oops" we didn't mean it.

If Journalism was policed and licensed similar to lawyers and doctors, as they should be, Fox would no longer exist.

With Rupert saying 'should have' he's basically thrown in the towel, which means he's prepared to take the hit.

However, where it will get really, really interesting is when all is said and done, who will be still there and who will be gone? You won't get far saying 'yeah, we lied and lied and hid things from you, but not any more, keep coming back."

Fox as we know it will be a lot different maybe not even recognizable.

No. They will look and act exactly like a supermarket tabloid. Look at their web site, it's already close and it's gotten worse since the election.

Where exactly?

The dark web, if nowhere else. Newsmax will face the same problem in the future as Fox News. They will be forced to pay billions eventually, just like Fox News.

Most of Fox News' old ass MAGA ****tard audience will die off soon anyway, so their little old midget minds won't have to face the "what to do with my worthless time?" dilemma for much longer.

To the OP title, no. Fox News folds when Rupert Murdoch can't find any way to make it profitable. And not one day before.

Murdoch is a malign influence on media everywhere, but there is no denying the man's ability to make money. Underestimate him at your peril.

I think I just described that scenario. How is this still a profitable business model if Fox News is forced to pay Dominion billions of dollars for their lies?

Murdoch has already admitted Fox News' guilt. They are going to have to pay billions and billions of dollars in punitive damages before this is over.

Nah. I wish, but nah. They'll just learn to lie without blatantly defaming people/corporations next time. They can even use the ole lie and retract tactic and minimize their damages. They're getting the snot sued out of them because, as the texts make perfectly clear, they told blatant falsehoods that they knew to be untrue, and they repeatedly told them, for no other purpose than to keep their ratings up. They will pay a price for that. But that won't stop Fox from being Fox.

You may be right. We'll see.

I also see the possibility that Murdoch gets so pissed off about paying billions of dollars that he completely cleans house at Fox News and starts over with a less radical news channel. Like Fox News used to be about 25 years ago.

Good thought, but will they? People said the same thing about Rump, and he just doubled down on his lies. And fox has shown no sign of reigning in it's "stars". They are to this minute spewing the same garbage with no slow down on the insane rhetoric. Wish he would just sell it to a real American and go back to Australia to die.

One reason they've never shown any signs of stopping is that they've never been severely punished. Until now.

Money talks more than anything with Murdoch. He's not a Trumpster by any means. If this ends up costing him multi-billions of dollars, you could see some drastic changes regarding his idiot propaganda crew of MAGA traitors.

YOU should celebrate the demise of Fox News, to be truthful. Why do you want to listen to people who purposely lie to you and you know that they are lying to you? Is it because you enjoy the lies?

Actually, I'll feel bad for you if Fox News goes bye-bye. Where will you go to get your daily does of MAGA lies that you enjoy so much?

Tucker Carlson is gone....Sean Hannity next?

The main reason Carlson got canned are the unflattering remarks he made about some of the Fox News executives in his text messages.

Could This Actually Be The End Of Fox News? No Really...Could It Be?

No....the end of Fox News would be closer if some way could be found to cut into their carriage fees from cable networks. That is where their real money comes from.

The only thing that is likely to end will be Fox chancing defamation lawsuits from entities large enough to carry their cases as far as Dominion could carry them. That alone is still a big win for the country at large.

Fox will still be run by a bunch of misogynistic men desperate to remake the country as some sort of WASP enclave marching under the American flag and the Christian cross while hiring and objectivising leggy female hosts that they either set up behind transparent glass top desks or simply seat in the middle of a couch with the camera pointed right up their hoochies forcing said females into locked leg poses while the cameras are on just to keep from turning the whole charade into a striptease act. For the record, the real powers at Fox could give a crap about women and care about them about as much as you would expect a bunch of right wing male pigs to care about them. This is because right wing male pigs is what they are all the way from Rupert down.

This from an old man but an old man that has daughters and has had about as much of this right wing male pig shit as he can take for one lifetime.

I think you're spot on! I predict Rupert will fire all the hack stars about to be sued individually, and start over with a whole new set of hacks. For a while, under scrutiny, they'll tone it down, wait for the slew of law suits to blow over, then go right back to business as usual. The only thing that could hurt fox worse than itself and these law suits, is losing their advertisers. If THAT ever happens, Rupert might pull the plug on fox. NOT going to hold my breath on that.
