This country has had plenty of bawdy men in comedy on family hour TV.

Could He get away with this were he alive now? Of if you prefer, can a modern comic be like Groucho Marx and get away with things he did?

This is not the most bawdy bits he did. Also note his sponsors? Tobacco companies. Democrats pulled them down a notch, huh?

Poll is yes one can

And no one can't.

Groucho Marx was a national treasure and one of the greatest comedians who ever lived.

We always make fun of society and push the limits of offense in comedy. How we do that changes, not if we do it.

Not Groucho or the old James Bond 007 character.

Yeah, you could add Archie Bunker, Al Bundy, and Benny Hill if you're talking primetime Network TV. There's Peter Griffin, but probably only because he's animated.

THANK YOU - THANK YOU! That was a delight. As to the question, I don't know. Groucho was and still is terrific!

Groucho live on You Bet Your life was hilarious. My hope was some would like him and remember him.

All greats you say? Groucho was a true great comic. Benny Hill once made me laugh for hours and hours. Both Benny and Groucho were true to life. I judged the others you like as actors.

Groucho on You Bet Your life made the guests part of his routine. Watch them laughing.

Wasn't comparing Groucho to them in terms of greatness just in terms what would be acceptable in today's environment and network tv.

My favorite comic ever, and Jack Benny, George Carlin, Bill Hicks...etc...

Not Groucho or the old James Bond 007 character.

Speaking of Bond, I finally watched From Russia with Love in its entirety last night. Also Goldfinger, which I love, for the first time in decades. And Dr. No today. I still don't know why guys think From Russia with Love is the movie. Thought a lot about the then-emerging Playboy culture and my dad, and smiled when Bond slapped a girl (not woman) on the ass and she liked it and thought about "Me Too" and how far we've come, baby. Bond was always so chivalrous--"Let the girl go" and all that. And appreciated yet again just how impossibly hot Sean Connery was.
