So my conservative friends. I bet you wish you had that two years back when you became the party of no and nothing got done. The GOP betted the rent on them taking back the whitehouse and the senate this fall and blocked everything they could in the last two years. The right has lost that gamble and now is the time to pay up and go along with the American people and raise the tax rate on the wealthy.

The people have spoken and the right has lost both debates on social issues and now the fiscal issues which I have to admit suprised even me. I knew the nation has swung to the left on social issues but I thought the right had the edge on fiscal issues. It pleases me greatly to admit I was wrong and it is now time to pay the fiddler my right wing friends. Maybe you should have been the party of yes instead.

Republicans in DC were justified in fighting all of Obama's plans for those two years since they hadn't seen his COLB yet.

Keep whistling past the grave yard.

The double dip recession is coming and it's because your leader has no idea what his job requires of him.

As a President, he is an outstanding community organizer.

Doesn't matter what the country thinks. We need to go over the fiscal cliff and it looks like we are going to, so well done GOP in the House.

So, they put the last 2 years around their waist?

What makes people think that the GOP House had much of anything to do with the "fiscal cliff"? It is amazing that the Obama inaction and that of the demorat controlled Senate is not seen as the cause of that "deal"? That deal has real tax increases, removing all[/] of the "Bush" tax cuts, and real spending cuts even to defense - all long overdue. Neither Obama nor the congress critters thought that would ever become law, but here it is. Obama got his revenge on the rich, just with everyone else now paying their "fair share" as well, all going back to the good old days of the "Clinton" tax rates. I still doubt that it will stand, as it makes the congress critters have to actually live with the cuts in federal spending, which will mean cuts in pork and reduced campaign cash for all of them.

It's because the Tea Party Republicans in the House are refusing to compromise, especially in regards to increasing taxes and demanding spending cuts. Because of that, the 3 factions in the House - Democrats, moderate Republicans, and Tea Party Republicans - can't get enough votes to pass a bill in the House that will pass in the Senate, and that Obama won't veto.

So the GOP House has very much to do with the U.S. going over the fiscal cliff.

As it should be, after all, not only Obama won re-electon. I would rather have my elected representatives stick to their campaign promises than to allow $1.2 trillion deficits to continue, hoping for change.

And Obama wasted 3 years to assure his best chance at re-election.

Well, considering how the two parties in state legislatures gerrymander House districts to favor one party or another, it is quite dubious how representative the Representatives in the House are.

Ding Ding Winner Chicken Dinner.

But, lets be fair. The Republicans used gerrymandering in 2010 more than any other party evah. In some districts in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virgina the Dem's have to have 2-3X as many votes as the R's.

At least those who voted for Obama voted (no, I'm not one of them). Your leader rode in on a hobby horse..........

All politics aside that is the reality and it will be quite interesting to see how this all translates in votes come mid term elections. My guess is that the Tea Party will be decimated. I just don't see the GOP base being as energized to keep them in as the GOP moderates and Democrats will be to get them out.

The electorate is nearly evenly divided so it should be no surprise that its representatives are as well. It is not king Obama but president Obama and he is not given magical authority to make law by declaring his mandates. Obama has a community of congress critters to organize yet spends very little time organizing, compared to that spent running around making public appeals, his campaign days are over, it is finally time to get real and actually govern.

It really really depends.

Honestly, it's not the GOP that's destroying our country or the Democrats.

Rather, it's the gerrymandering that goes on in congressional districts. Because the party in power of state legislatures draw district lines, they draw them to protect areas of Republican and Democratic voters.

What that does, though, is force candidates to the House to be more extreme rather than adequately representative of their constituents.

So it may not be that the Tea Party Republicans get voted out of office. It may not be until the next census, barring any major demographic changes that occur in those districts. Or GOP efforts to restrict voting.

Except the electorate is not nearly evenly divided. There are many of those who are libertarians or greens who get absolutely no representation at all because of the two major parties prevent reforms that would allow honest representation of the electorate.

None of which has anything to do with Presidential authority, especially when Congress chooses to hand over more authority to that office so members of Congress can divest itself of more authority but retain reasons for campaign contributors to personally give them money.

Where exactly in the Constitution does it say the President is responsible for making laws? In fact, where does it say he is responsible for organizing or governing Congress? All I read is that the President can veto laws passed by Congress. Has Congress put a bill on Obama's desk? I mean...you can't argue that Congress is afraid of wasting time passing laws that Obama would veto given that the House has passed many, many laws in the past 2 years that they knew didn't have the votes in the Senate.

I find it strange that there is this modern perception of the President as the director of Congress. The fact is the President has absolutely no power or influence over Congress. He can state what he would and would not veto but whether or not he would cannot be proven until a bill is on his desk that Congress passed. That is the extent of his influence over these matters. Even the fact that Presidents negotiate with members of Congress is fairly novel. Obama has already done more than most of his predecessors ever would have done.

I find it funny that so many say it will be the Tea Party's fault if we go over the cliff yet the Dem controlled Senate hasn't passed a budget since 2009.........just blows me away.

Exactly! Obama has signed the "fiscal cliff" bill into law and only now wishes that it be replaced with something he likes better. If wishes were fishes... ;)

I've been wondering that myself. Well said!

I do kind of wonder if that was the compromise. Both sides recognize that something has to be done about the deficit. Both sides do not want to be blamed for spending cuts or increased taxes on the middle class. Maybe they decided long ago when they passed the fiscal cliff bill that they were taking the country over it because then they could blame each other and everyone else could just blame the government in general. That is how the GOP now seems to function. Make the government as inefficient as possible so that more and more people hate the government. It is a gamble because the people could end up hating just the GOP, but I guess that remains to be seen.

The House Republicans offered both Tax increases and Spending cost in a balanced approach.

The President does not want that, though. This is revealed because that is what he said he wanted. The guy will tell a lie even if the truth will work better.

What the president has gotten now is a big increase in taxes and a big cut in defense spending. Michelle better watch out because he's probably felling like he's had an overdose of Viagra. He's probably got a very big, um, smile.

Never happen. Even Obama is in bed with defense contractors.
