Seems pretty incompatible with your views on immigration and American greatness. Would you support removing the poem?

“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

I just bought a t shirt with the opening lines on it to go with my Gulf of Mexico and Harvard t shirts.

The point being that expressing support for perfectly normal and stable things is now a form of protest.

I think replacement is better.

We should replace the crass Ezra (what sort of name is that?) poem with one that is consistent with our Brave New World:

It is pretty clear that Trump Republicans, who once spoke fondly of "American Exceptionalism" do not actually have a clue as to what makes made America exceptional....

Yes. Return the Statue of Liberty to its original condition.

Remove the poem and reopen the torch. Actually, I think restoring the copper would be a bad idea.

I remember having this discussion on an internet chat site (not this one) years ago with "conservatives" (this was during the Bush Jr era, before their more virulent evolution into Tea Party or MAGA)- and even back then they were being very clear that they thought the poem was an obsolete idea, for back when only white people were coming to this country- but now it's time to take it down (presumably because the skin tone of the new immigrants really doesn't measure up as much).

We should take the entire statue down at this point.

It would be more cost-effective to replace the face on our Statue of Liberty with Trump's visage, but that would give the sick lib-progs ammunition to snicker about Trump's cross-dressing, so we will have to replace the whole damn thing with a proper Trump statue that is suitably upscaled and, of course, gold plated.

How about erecting a new statue, parallel to the current one, kinda like this? I think that would actually be the most accurate representation of what this country stands for now:

Why do you insist on thinking illegal immigration is the same as legal immigration? We absolutely do welcome immigrants who come to our country legally. This is just another example of the evil of the left. Do you not understand that the most support given to Trump's immigrant policies is from the Hispanic community? You know, the most recent LEGAL immigrants?

Democrats will never win elections again if they can't recognize reality. Here is an example of just how disconnected Democrats are from the common sense core of American citizens.

Please post any study showing that, in “reality,” “ the most support given to Trump's immigrant policies is from the Hispanic community.”

If this were only about legal/illegal immigration, you would be proposing legislation that makes it easier for the immigrants our businesses and communities need to come here. Or pathways to citizenship for people who have been here and formed families and lived according to our laws for many years—something that in *actual* reality most Hispanics and Latinos support. Nothing like that has been proposed. Your distinction is a thin cover for rank bigotry, and you know it.

"The common sense core of American citizens" is too busy chasing cat-eating Haitians, cancer-causing wind turbines, stolen presidential elections, and taking lots of vitamin A for their measles outbreaks.

While I surely appreciate your effort, sadly, in your representation, the Statue of Liberty is taller than Trump, makes Trump look like a Napoleonic chump.

Trump would have to loom over the Lady for the narrative to be closer to the reality we exist within.

MAGA.

We can keep the statue as is, as a historical reminder of the time when we welcomed immigrants during America's still-formative years and needed people to help build our infastructure. Times have changed. We do not need nearly as many, and especially not the "wretched refuse".

Trump was known to be so unhappy with a made to scale model of one of his buildings, that he had the model altered to remove the buildings that were taller. He's the biggest!!! He could try that approach with the Statue of Liberty....

I'm surprised if they don't send the entire statue back to France. Then they can erect a malignant narcissist scumbag piece of shit liar grifter rapist seditionist felon serial adulterer and tax cheat statue on the base.

It's so silly when Democrats keep conflating legal and illegal.

The administration is busy working on reducing legal immigration as well, so I hope you're not one of those people who think this is just about illegal migrants.

Sure thing:

So your post says Trump didn't actually take any steps but cloaks their conspiracy theory in COVID measures.

Most of your article takes issue with immigration being reduced because.....Trump enforces immigration law.

You can't be a public charge. You have to be a real refugee, not just claim status and so on.

The only change is Trump enforcing the law vs ignoring it.
