This is a disempowering, scarcity mindset. Right out of the gate, one is conditioned to view themselves as being limited by their past. Rather than excercise their immense personal power, they allow default conditions to continue until someone else fixes their problems. This is an extremely inefficient way to uplift a segment of society, as seen in post-aparthied South Africa. Indeed, this mindset is so counter to human nature that it produces harm to the very segment it purports to help.
It's not about someone "else" fixing anything... It's about ALL OF US Fixing and Dispensing with our long history of biases and bigotry, envy and resentment and the fears that driven jealousies.
There is no sweeping the realisms under the rug, we have a society that has people still this day that were groomed in systems and communities and environments within homes that embraced a variety of biases and bigotry and racial and ethnicity divisiveness.
ANYONE, who goes, has gone to, or understand the role and responsibility of a Therapist, know very well, among the first thing they do is
"listen to the peoples story" and
then they work backwards to get to the grooming years, so they can learn
what groomed and bred the concepts they hold, and the concepts that hold them into the distresses they may be experiencing.
People feel empowered when they embrace understanding. Understanding; its a very comforting and enriching thing, that helps build the confidence that strengthens and advances the personal power within individuals, to embrace their passions and push to find what they equate as successes.
When you talk about people being limited by their past, you should think of the impacts that affect people based on their ancestral past. Poor whites even when one is two generations removed, still many not get accessibility to some of the things that the well to do and wealthy have accessibility as to opportunity. this same has applied to black, its applied to people based on various ethnicity, as well as people based on various Religious Factions.
Human Nature may be simplified to say we are "Social Beings"... but as societies' we have many biases and varying frames and levels of bigotry, and we still have many frames of using discriminating mindsets based on those biases.
I say, that young people are changing the paradigm, they are not ignoring history, they are embracing it, and they are better at understanding how to overcome the divisiveness that was promoted by biases, bigotry, class and cast monetary based segregation as well as racial segregation and as well as ethnicity based segregation.
Folklore over many generations has created many man made prejudices, based on biased based passed along folktales... which many have lived with as food for their concept of values when it comes to race, ethnicity, religion, gender and lifestyles, as well as economic standing, among the many other fractional things people create to keep those biases and prejudicial concept alive.
We can't deny the work that needs to be done. Just because we some who are more enlightened, while some refuse to become enlightened... until we acknowledge that, and understanding that divisiveness, does not promote unity... and what remains divided, generate strife. It's happening, because the internet has given people more access to information, and
over time people will learn better how to filter out truth from untruths,
because the research capability that the internet makes possible,
is something that has never existed to this level in general society, outside of the advanced education system of universities.
