You have provided no evidence there is less crime in the US than in the UK (which is irrelevant to the discussion of deaths by guns), and you most certainly have not refuted there are less deaths by guns in the UK than in the US.

Unless the gun fanatics work to find a way to prevent guns from getting in the hands of criminals and the deranged, the people will have no choice but adopt more broader gun control methods.

Well you are out of luck because criminals will not give up their guns, they will use a black market or create their own, and they will kill more people because everyone else is disarmed.

We need to close the border, stop the drug war, make harsher penalties, more security in public places such as schools, and a moral change in the culture.

300 milliion people live in this country, and 90 guns for every 100 people. Don't pretend there is anything that can stop random diasters in a country this big. I don't want to live in a police state either.

Gun laws in Wyoming (for example) won't work in NYC. That's logical and reasonable. NYC should have no say in what goes on in Wyoming, and vice-versa.

However, if NYC notices that guns are showing up from out of state they have every right to expect enforcement and protection from the feds.

The FBI recently released its Crime in The United States statistics for 2010. Overall, murders in the U.S. have decreased steadily since 2006, dropping from 15,087 to 12,996. Firearms murders — which made up 67 percent of all murders in the U.S. in 2010 — have followed this trend, decreasing by 14 percent.

At the same time that firearms murders were dropping, gun sales were surging. In 2009, FBI background checks for guns increased by 30 percent over the previous year, while firearms sales in large retail outlets increased by almost 40 percent. The number of applications for concealed carry permits jumped across the country as well.

I think the Supreme Court will eventually apply its own standard of interpreting intent. The United States was never supposed to have a standing army so the people, when necessary, were the military and because the Congress was flat broke you were expected to provide your own gun and munitions. This is a dated concept from a radical age. We have a standing army, we have a militia (National Guard), and we don't need a society of vigilantes anymore.

I don't believe in total abolition of private gun ownership but there needs to be stronger regulations in both acquisition and retention of guns. When the people start abusing the second amendment then there needs to be an adequate legal response to it in the form of tough regulations and enforcement; especially when the public safety is at risk. I don't accept that the slaughter of 18 children is just a price we have to pay so Billy Joe Bob can blow holes in beer cans in his backyard.

Here in the country in OH, everyone carries a gun in person or in their truck, legally and illegally, and everyone know it.

I fired 2 rounds into the ground to force the retreat of 2 unknown dogs around midnight several years ago.

Five minutes later my neighbor drove in the driveway, armed with his pistol, wanting to make sure that we were OK!

God, but I love living in the country! :mrgreen:

That's true of any item you introduce into a population. Any item at all. Without glass, no one would ever get stabbed with a broken bottle. Without electricity, no one would ever be electrocuted. Without tall buildings or bridges, no one could fall off them. Without parachutes, there would be no skydiving accidents, because there would be no skydiving.

We keep the tech because it's benefits far outweigh it's drawbacks. Guns lower the over-all crime rate far more-so then any increase in gun-crime. If Lansa had dumped a couple buckets of water on the classroom floor and then plugged a common power cord with a frayed end into the wall, electrocuting everyone, gun-control logic dictates that we ban electricity.
