Congratulations Ohio and Specifically Cleveland: Home of the Next GOP Convention.....

Re: Congraulations Ohio and Specifically Cleveland: Home of the Next GOP Convention..

One good thing that could be derived from having the GOP National Convention in Cleveland, is Ohio has shown good growth in jobs since Kasich became governor. He has made a good effort to make the state business friendly. As of May 2014 unemployment was 5.5. Some counties are reporting rates as low as 3.5 others 7.7. The tech industry is one industry that has boomed in Ohio. To choose Cleveland which is just a little South of Detroit certainly highlights the tale of two cities. Cleveland not without its problems has shown great improvements over the last couple of years compared to Detroit that has been a “model city” for big-government! All Detroit’s mayors since 1962 were Democrats who were eager to micromanage and spend. Detroit has the only utility tax in Michigan, and its income tax is the third-highest of any big city in America (only Philadelphia and Louisville take more, and they aren’t doing great either). Detroit’s automakers got billions in federal bailouts. Politicians can’t make mismanaged industries coupled with constant government meddling, welfare and bureaucratic labor union rules (Detroit has 47 unions) into a formula for success.

Another plus for the GOP to hold the convention in Cleveland, it is the home of the renowned Cleveland Clinic. People from all over the world seek treatment at this institution. They have not been silent on how Obamacare has caused them grief and forced them to cut needed staff etc. in order to meet all the new regulations to stay within budget.

Another is our program for school choice. Cleveland has really benefitted from that one increasing its graduation rates. Vouchers do work.

Oh and I shouldn't forget the most important of all and that is Cleveland is home to Great Lakes Brewing Co.. One of the finest microbreweries in the nation.

Mornin V. :2wave: Lets not forget the Demos were trying to get their Convention in Ohio too.

Re: Congraulations Ohio and Specifically Cleveland: Home of the Next GOP Convention..

As long as it helps the GOP out for now and 2016......is all that counts. We can't continue down the Democrats path. Since no other will have any chance. Republicans and those that lean to the Right need to step up and make it count with Impact.

Conventions dont help anyone. They are a party with some speeches no one cares about beyond that weekend where they anoint their king. The GOP cant help themselves because they care more about winning than ideology. And they arent even running people against Democrats in some areas. Rep Kathy Castor in my nearby district of Tampa won unopposed.

I think one has to be old to remember when conventions were important or actually meant something. From 1956 thru 1968 there were only 12-15 primaries, most delegates in the other states were picked by party leaders of those states in various ways. But in 1976 30 states held primaries and 4 years later all the states had primaries or caucuses. So conventions could hold plenty of drama until all these primaries came into being and they actually meant something. A lot of times no one was sure who would win or even whom some states backed until voting time at the conventions.

but today, conventions are totally scripted and the winner is well known far in advance. Perhaps they have outlived their usefulness. But there is a convention bounce. usually have each convention that parties candidate picks up around 5 points in the polls, but 2-3 weeks later that bounce is usually gone. I suppose that is why they call it a bounce, it doesn't last.

Alright you Ohio Republicans, Tea Partiers and all those leaning to the Right. Now is the time to make your Mark. Time to get in the game early. It will be held at the Arena. 35k Visitors and expected 200 Mill in Economic Boost for the city.

As Vesper reminded me.....get ready for the battle-lines to be drawn. All those TV and Radio Ads. All those Robo-Calls. What say ye?

Republicans Pick Cleveland Over Dallas for Convention.....

CONVENTION-master675.jpg

Republicans chose Cleveland on Tuesday for their 2016 national convention, with the hope of appealing to Rust Belt voters who eluded them in the last two presidential elections, and an acknowledgment of the political value of ending the party’s nomination process sooner.

The city edged out Dallas after a review by the Republican National Committee that narrowed the field to the two finalists last week. Both cities aggressively courted party officials, with Dallas presenting cheerleaders and a parade of elephants, and Cleveland turning to the Browns’ first-round draft pick Johnny Manziel, a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. The choice must be ratified at a meeting of the full Republican National Committee next month in Chicago.

While each party lost the state where it held its 2012 conventions, Republicans believe holding their convention in a vital swing state will help them from an organizational and message standpoint. They were also mindful of history: No Republican has won the White House without carrying Ohio.

A convention in Ohio — highlighting the state’s top elected Republicans like Senator Rob Portman, who supports same-sex marriage, and Gov. John R. Kasich, who expanded Medicaid under the health care law — also allows the party to project a more moderate image than a convention in Texas, where party leaders include Senator Ted Cruz, a Tea Party favorite who may also seek the nomination.....snip~

But the right wing and libertarians are mad that it's not held in Texas obviously!

Nah J5 that's not true.....they do help. As it allows more to be contacted and allows others to get involved with volunteering. That's all on the ground and grassroots.

That's nothing new.....the Democrats in Chicago here. Have several that ran Unopposed never having to face anyone except another Democrat.

To be Honest, Texas is not that nice in the summer, way too hot.

Re: Congraulations Ohio and Specifically Cleveland: Home of the Next GOP Convention..

I disagree that conventions have outgrown their usefulness. They help greatly with fundraising. It's a national platform that gets covered on the nightly news. Where to have the convention is also important. Ohio was probably chosen in part because no Republican has ever been elected to the presidency in the last few decades without carrying Ohio. Another factor is Cleveland had the 50 million to put up for the convention and Dallas didn't.

Greetings, Vesper! :2wave:

Excellent post! People tend to think that Ohio is a "flyover" State, and not worth much in the general scheme of things. They're wrong. While we quietly go about our business of living our daily lives, taking care of our own and helping others when we can, we have a far-sighted Governor and legislature who assists us in our efforts. As an example, Governor Kasich agreed to take Federal money to expand Medicaid to assist in providing health insurance to the unfortunate victims of bad legislation - and he took a lot of grief because of it - not from us who live here, but from others who want to keep us divided for their own reasons. None of us are perfect, but dammit, we are trying!

Kasich has an 86 percent job approval rating in the latest polling, which means we approve of what he is doing! In addition, he believes in spending reductions rather than tax increases. In 1995 he became Chairman of the House Budget Committee in DC, and got credit for the only Federal Budget surplus since 1969 - taking it from a deficit of -$163 billion to a surplus in 1997 of over $236 billion! Great job that benefitted everyone in America! Spenders need to pay attention!

You are spot on in your comment about school choice, too! Vouchers do work, and I personally know some that it has helped. They have gone on to become productive citizens, instead of looking for a handout from someone else. As proof, our average unemployment rate is very low compared to most other states - 5.5 percent!

Yep, except for our long cold and icy winters - ugh! - Ohio is a great place to live! :2dance:

No I've never heard of him. I get NYC and NJ radio stations. Hannity has more national coverage.

EDIT: Clear Channel where Hannity has his contract is much larger than Salem Radio where Medved contract is.

Exactly, and thats the GOPs problem. They dont even try. They just stay in their strongholds and rely on the base. Look how they treat libertarians and the tea party. The convention is for the establishment.

Mornin Pol.
Did you see where Cleveland through school choice has pulled itself out of the gutter and now is ahead of the state average on graduation success? Another thing Kasich has done is push for legislation that has curtailed voter fraud that previously helped Democratic candidates. And another thing that will help the GOP and will be highlighted with their convention in Ohio is Ohio relies on coal for their power. We have already seen a big increase in cost due to regulations out of Obama's EPA. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more coming that have yet to be implemented but will be by 2016 that are going to make our power bills soar.

Well, Cleveland and Ohio isn't their stronghold.

And having a convention there wont change that. They need to run original candidates with a consistent message. An establishment convention is just going to be more of the same. Get Romney and Chris Christie etc up there give speeches.

Well I agree with getting people up there.....I think the GOP should always go 50 states, and even up in places like Chicago. Not avoiding them.

Well really the point is.....most of the GOP really didn't want to be down in Dallas. They have held it there before. They know they have to come out with Ideas and take the Swing States. Ohio is winnable. Despite the electorate around Cleveland. Preibus was on about this a couple of months back.

Plus it plays in to Kasich. Especially if he decides to run for the Presidency.

I know but I wasn't talking about the general GOP population I was talking about hard right wingers and patriotic texans like Ted Cruz.
