...ain't what it used to be:

For Trump, 'complete and total exoneration' ain't what it used to be

Nearly two weeks ago, Attorney General William Barr’s summary of Robert Mueller’s investigation of collusion between Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and possible obstruction of justice shook up the worldview of the entire political and journalistic establishment.

Barr’s four-page appraisal of Mueller’s nearly 400-page report was read as vindicating Trump of all wrongdoing, and set off euphoric celebrations on Fox News, among the president’s Republican loyalists in Congress and, of course, from the commander in chief himself.

Donald J. Trump

No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. KEEP AMERICA GREAT!

This despite the fact that even Barr's somewhat slanted summary specifically said that the report does not exonerate Trump.

But, now there is some dissent:

On Wednesday, members of Mueller’s hitherto tight-lipped team began to speak of their frustrations with Barr’s recounting of the special counsel’s findings. The New York Times reported that “some” Mueller investigators had concluded that “Barr failed to adequately portray the findings of their inquiry and that they were more troubling for President Trump” than the attorney general had let on.

The obvious solution? Release the report. Let's do it a couple of weeks before the election, just like the bombshell about Hillary's emails was released a couple of weeks before the 2016 election. Does that sound like a good plan?

LOL!!

"Barr's somewhat slanted summary"

Nonsense. Barr's principle conclusion was taken directly from Mueller's report. He didn't slant anything.

That means, for you to make that contention, you have to contend that Mueller slanted his own report. Is that really where you want to go with this?

and you know this because you have somehow been able to see the Mueller report, even before it has been released to Congress? The people at the FBI questioning the Barr summary have.

"Complete and total exoneration." Let's see the report. Even the summary says the exact opposite of that.

I know this because Barr directly quoted Mueller's report.

I know this because Barr directly quoted Mueller's report.

You're certain that he directly quoted a report that you have not seen, when people who have seen the report disagree. Well, OK, then. Complete and total exoneration it is.

Oh for god's sake...did you even read Barr's letter?

He "quoted" Mueller's report...with quote marks.

Honestly, do you really think Barr would lie about that? If so, you have gone off the deep end of tin-foil hattery.

Wanna have fun with this? Let's each pick a historical document and let the other write a slanted, biased analysis of it, including quotes.
You know this. Nothing can be said about that report based only on an analysis, without seeing the complete original. Context, as you've said elsewhere, is important.
Looks to me like the Republicans in general and Trump in particular are gearing up to block release of the report. What do you think? Will the report be released, or will an analysis with quotes have to satisfy everyone?

If the report is released in full, the privacy of witnesses is compromised. People who have committed no crime will be adversely affected and laws to protect such witnesses will be violated. The report can't be LEGALLY released. The demands to do so are designed to create innuendo.

The report is not meant to exonerate anyone. That's for a judge to do. The report is only there to gather evidence, and there is either evidence, or there isn't. What liberals should be asking is, how smart is donald trump, to collude with russia in a way that Mueller couldn't figure it out? Either Trump is a criminal mastermind beats Government intelligence by far....or it never happened, and you were lied to by a partisan media.

Are you seriously that naive? He didn't even quote the full sentence? Mueller team carefully prepared summaries for public release. Why weren't those released?

All you're proving is that conservatives are dishonest.

It's obvious to anyone that this is a strategy to dampen the impact of the report.

sigh...

It's kind of hard to contend that Barr slanted his principle conclusions when he included this in his letter to Congress: As the report states: “ The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

That pretty much says it all right there.

I've seen no indication that anyone will block the release of the report. Heck, the only one who COULD block its release is Barr....and he's said he will release it.

This isn't a full sentence?

As the report states: “ The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”

Seriously...all this grasping at straws...is that what you've devolved to?

They could use a middle man and that statement would technically be true.

You have no basis for claiming there is no slant.

Actually, I do. I have two letters from him to Congress that have no indication of slant.

What do YOU have? Your imagination and bias. That's all.

They could use a middle man and that statement would technically be true.

???

Who could use what middle man?

What...now you are going to trot out hypothetical nonsense from your fantasy world? And you expect me to take you seriously?

You are dismissed.

How do you know Barr didn't slant anything ? Have you seen the 'entire' Mueller report ? NO, you say ? Didn't think so. Your unproven claim is dismissed, until/unless you can prove your claim to be factual. A nice start in that direction would be for you to present the entire Mueller report, which, based on you post above you have to have seen in full to make such a claim. Or have you actually NOT seen the entire Mueller report and you're simply making a claim you can't prove to be factual ? I say it's the latter. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Barr directly quoted the report. How could he possibly slant a quote from Mueller, himself?

Seriously, take off your tin-foil hat and stop imagining what Barr COULD have done.

You can’t tell if someone has misrepresented a source if you haven’t seen the source.

Are you claiming nobody has ever taken Trump out of context to misrepresent the real message?

Let's keep this simple for you. Have you seen the 'entire' Mueller report ? YES or NO ?

You can’t tell if someone has misrepresented a source if you haven’t seen the source.

Do you seriously think Mueller would let Barr misquote him? And then would Mueller HELP Barr redact his own report?

Take off your tin foil hat.

Let's keep this simple for you. Have you seen the 'entire' Mueller report ? YES or NO ?

The entire Mueller report is not the issue. Barr slanting his letter is the issue.

let's see the report.
