Columbia Record and Tape Club

Sorry, I am not a Trumpet. I have values and ethics. I belonged to sevral of those clubs and never stiffed a one.

I hardly find fraud funny either. As I said, that is likely because I am not a Trumpet.

TRUMP CARD....

You have just demonstrated TDS.

A failed play.

 Your friend might have gotten beaten up if he told people, "Yeah, mother****er, I stole!" "Well, what'd you steal?" "The Wall Street Journal, bitch!"

he did say and do some crazy things. we're still friends, though he is far away now. a significant portion of my funny stories involve that guy, and they are all true.

As I recall, I fulfilled my obligation and then started another account with the cassettes for the car. This program is the precursor to a lot of the programs out there today that ship you clothes, shoes, survival gear, etc that you can try and send back or keep and pay for. They count on you NOT sending the products back.

The send back or pay scheme was given the Mad Magazine treatment in the early years of Mad Magazine.

Whatever you say. Trump is a piece of **** who cheated everyone he ever met. He is a great example of scum.

I was a member...and my first order was for 8 tracks. 8 Tracks are going to revolutionize the music industry!!!

The biggest problem with 8 tracks was that so many of them chopped a song in half between tracks. From a practicality standpoint they got blown away by cassettes and from an audiophile standpoint they got blown away by reel to reel.

When Trump goes away.

Why do you endorse ripping off a record club?

That is my question, on topic. You keep changing it to Trump derangement accusations.

Is this the list for the old folks home? Are those 8-track tapes? Weren't they in the Smithsonian by the 80s?

Well, I just googled pics so the whippersnappers would know what I was talking about. They were usually in the newspapers, or the backs of magazines, or the TV Guide.

Do they even make TV Guide anymore?

Man, those old people, huh? Always coming up with crazy stuff that none of us hip youngsters have ever heard of. Bless their hearts.

Watch it, you punks.

They're just jealous because us old farts had all the cool music and all the cool bands.

Hell yeah. I knew you'd have my back.

I saw a tee shirt in New Orleans that said, "I may be old, but I've seen all the cool bands."

The mother**** makes you think I am a Trumpet?

And keep politics out of this. This is one of the few areas on this board where politics are not allowed.

In around the mid 70's I was going to college and got a job in summer and winter break at the US postal service. I worked in a large regional distribution center.

I remember working in parcel posts where trainloads of mail came in and we sorted it out by states. We would toss the packages into the proper state bag that it was going to. There would be a single bag for most states and in the case of Calif and NY they would have two bags to fill.
Among all those states there was one non state bag. You guessed it. Columbia Record and Tape Club had there own bag just like a state for all the folks returning records.
I can vividly remember seeing some of the returning records envelopes with words such as "I didn't order this" and "Please stop sending these".

 Yeah I've done that a few times.

But you know - it did, actually. 8 tracks were the first really portable music platform that you could take in your car with you.

Probably costs more to send back than to just destroy them (or write them off).

I used to have a friend who worked for a place called DMI, or Disc Manufacturing. They made CDs, DVDs, etc. If a jewel case got cracked on a CD, they'd toss the entire thing (disc and all) because it was cheaper to toss it than it was to pay someone to take the time to remove the disc, and put it in a new jewel case.

We got CDs from there like crazy, because they'd sell the cast-offs.

My father was a musician in his younger days, and he recorded a few 8 tracks. I remember that - how they would cut the song in half? My "hey day" was cassette tapes. CDs were just coming out when I was like a junior in high school.

OK. Honestly.

How many joined this service, or any of the other similar services back in the day?

For those of you youngsters, you could buy like 10 records for a penny, and then had to buy like 4 more over the next 2 years at full price (which was usually 3 times what it cost to buy it in the store).

How many stiffed them?

How many stiffed them more than once, under different names?

I am sooooo guilty. :(

I also did the same thing to "Squadron Signal Publications".
