College Students Describe What a Conservative Is

Conservatives: The people who've convinced themselves that mankind has already reached its peak and that all forward human progress should be aggressively halted. They typically have nostalgic and historically inaccurate views of their childhood to which they'd like to return. Remember the good ol' days? Back when gays, blacks and women had no rights and everything was just too perfect to change? They've existed in every society, forever roadblocks to human progress and compassion.

Found this video rather interesting to watch. What do you think of it?

Conservative has turned into a "one track term" just like "Liberal".

I'm a Conservative spender that uses and requires a Liberal amount of information to progress with today's situations.

Yesterday, these terms were "less of" vs "more of". Today, corporations want to limit the thought process into the smallest amount of groups possible. Republican and Democrat failed, so they turned Con vs Lib.

Less spending, More thinking, Less oppression, more Freedom.

NOTHING IN HISTORY FUNCTIONED WELL WITHOUT UPDATES AND/OR CLEANING. UPDATES AND CLEANING ARE PROGRESS.

Ya know, when I was posting this I just KNEW that someone was going to come along and post something to this affect. And lo and behold!...post #2 does not disappoint me.

Umm..yeah...would you mind posting something a little more coherent and a little less like a rant? :)

Wow, college kids have a shortsighted, not-yet-developed view on something. Must be the libtard indoctrination!

I met a few "college Republicans" who had some utterly moronic ideas about liberals too.

I wonder how many of those college kids were fed that drivel from their professors?

Well it aint wrong :)

I was expecting to hear them say some absurd things and yet the majority of what was said was reasonable. Defending the status quo, a phrase used multiple times, is essentially the dictionary definition of what conservatism is. The only part I found interesting was their naive view of "progressivism." Other than that, what about the video did you find so interesting?

Hard to know for sure, sorta like pondering how many young minds are warped by CON parent rants, or older minds by Faux Noise or the latest CON candidate for President.

I'd say it is more a perception of the viewer than any actual fact.

Hmm...did you even watch the video?

Many things really. But what caught my ear is that many of them actually didn't deride or put down conservatism. Oh you could tell that they didn't actually care for it and did mention a few negative things but they were actually minor compared to say...what RabidAlpaca said in his first post in this thread. I agree with you that when I first saw the title I was expecting absurd things also, I was mildly surprised that there wasn't as such video's usually do have such things in em, that's another thing I found interesting.

No it is not. The definition of Conservative is "adverse to change or innovation and holding traditional values".

Except that Conservatism =/= "They typically have nostalgic and historically inaccurate views of their childhood to which they'd like to return. Remember the good ol' days? Back when gays, blacks and women had no rights and everything was just too perfect to change?"

Which is why your claim that its accurate is wrong and so is RabidAlpaca's partisan talking points.

Hmm...did you even watch the video?

No, with good reason.

Dude sets out to make a hit piece; interviews a ton of randos; keeps the clips that reinforce the intent of his hit piece and throws out the ones that don't; cobbles together some garbage video that gets a ton of hits; ????; profit.

It's like the Obamaphone lady. Find an idiot, use them as a caricature of the whole. Seen it a million times. Had no interest in making it a million and one.

Listening beyond the stereotypical opinions, I find it quite illuminating that none of those students talked about the MAJOR difference between conservative and progressive:

Progressives think it is necessary to use government power as much as possible to achieve their ends, while conservatives think it's necessary to curtail government power and let the individual decide for themselves as much as possible.

I suppose these young people, having lived their whole lives with a central government enacting rules, regulations, mandates, etc., can't even conceive of a life in which THEY control what happens to them.

None of these students have been mugged yet.

I've heard that quip before, and I've always wondered how being a victim of petty street crime would turn someone into one of those people.

They did't say that and thankfully so. That absurd nonsense is only believed by partisan Republicans. The truth is both sides love government, the difference is over what they want government to do, not whether they want government to do anything.

That's an interesting take on it. Wrong, but interesting.

I can't watch it on this computer. Have to watch it on my husband's later. From the looks of the replies in this thread it could be interesting. Of course, from the looks of the replies in this thread, nobody who isn't a conservative actually watched it.

Yes and this is very accurate. Conservatives long after the days of Reagan, and the massive growth in the 1950s and 1960s. You see them reference it all the time.

Back when gays, blacks and women had no rights and everything was just too perfect to change?"

And this is also correct up to a point.

Gays.. most conservatives are against gay marriage and equal rights. Dont even try to deny this. Hence the statement is accurate. But there are conservatives today, especially the young, who would allow gay partnership and equal rights, but they are being drowned out by the homophobes on the Conservative side.

Blacks.. Openly most conservatives are of course against racism.. so much that they in fact deny that it exists any more. And yet when there are clearly racist attacks and actions across the US, they not only go out of their way to distance the racist aspect and blame someone/thing else. Fuergeson.. it was not racism, despite the evidence. The terror attack against the black church.. the terrorist himself said it was a racist attack, and yet conservatives have gone out of their way to paint it as something else. So yes in many ways the statement is very accurate.

Women.. Well that horse is gone that is for sure.. thankfully, but have no doubt that conservatives are still fighting against equal rights for women whenever they can... may it be in sport, military, politics or business. Again an accurate statement.
