Cohen to accuse Trump of criminal conduct in office: report | TheHill

President Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen will reportedly testify publicly on Wednesday that the president engaged in criminal conduct while in office.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Cohen will provide members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee with evidence that Trump was involved in criminal actions related to a hush-money payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who alleged she had an affair with the president.

Trump has been a serial philanderer. Not illegal but says a lot about his character & trustworthiness.

The Rump supporters will scream Cohen is a liar. Thankfully there are recordings.

Remember Trump threatening Comey, he best hope there are no tapes? Karma is a what ?

The right will likely cling to the idea that Cohen is a chronic liar, but by this time, most of what we the public know has been verified by other sources. I'm not expecting huge revelations. We all know what sort of man Trump is, and we are either disgusted by him or we're never going to be.

What goes around comes around. This crap fest is timed perfectly to help defeat him in 2020.

The press is saying Cohen has something big, I wonder if they are Trumps tax returns or copies of them...

That would be awesome! If Cohen releases Trump’s tax returns it would be totally spectacular. It would also be highly illegal but the Democrats would definitely give him a pass.

So it would be illegal for a person who Trump says is a liar who shouldn't be trusted, a guy who used to be personal attorney and fixer who did illegal things for Trump and is currently indicted and plead guilty for doing so, to do more stuff to prove that he did illegal things for Trump? The world's tiniest violin just got smaller. You better hope Cohen doesn't have his tax returns.

None of the stated reasons for the hearing have any relevance to Donald Trump as president, legislation, the executive branch, or any other government function. Michael Cohen was never a government employee.

The Oversight Committee has the broadest investigative scope of any Congressional committee. It can investigate “anything, anywhere.” But the Supreme Court has imposed clear boundaries on the committee and Congress.

In Watkins v. United States the Supreme Court ruled, “There is no general authority to expose the private affairs of individuals without justification in terms of the functions of the Congress...[n]or is the Congress a law enforcement or trial agency. ... [An] inquiry...must be related to, and in furtherance of, a legitimate task of the Congress.”

The title of the hearing is simply, “Hearing with Michael Cohen.” This hardly meets the standards written by Chief Justice Earl Warren in Watkins v. United States.

Furthermore, Michael Cohen still has a duty and obligation to maintain the attorney-client privilege with Mr. Trump. The privilege can only be waived by the client and is not transferable between the executive branch and the legislative branch. What exactly is Michael Cohen going to answer questions about? Is he going to explain to Congress how he lied to Congress?

It should be further noted that this hearing was scheduled after the White House had previously announced President Trump would be meeting in Vietnam with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that same day.

The fiasco that is sure to ensue as Congress hears from this witness seems to serve only one purpose: a public flogging of the president as he meets with Kim Jong Un about one of the most promising foreign policy initiatives of his presidency – ending a serious nuclear threat to the United States.

The hearing is an obvious attempt to embarrass the president and preemptively undercut any goodwill his peacemaking with North Korea might generate. One has to wonder why, of all the days available on the calendar, the Democrats selected this particular day, undermining the long-standing tradition of avoiding such proceedings while a president is overseas.

For the entire op-ed Jason Chaffetz: Michael Cohen hearing'''s only purpose is to publicly flog Trump during meeting with Kim Jong Un | Fox News

Doubtful scenario, but let's just say it did, and lets assume that if he did, it was because it showed pretty damning stuff, that he's compromised by both Russian interests and Saudi interests. Sure it would be a crime technically for Cohen to do so, but would he not be something of a hero even so? Would you object to it, say "fruit of the poison tree" Do you love Trump so much you just wish this would all go away no matter what?

Are you one of those who feels that any crimes they found that Trump committed before his presidency, un-related to his presidency, should just be "left alone" cuz "they only care cuz he's president"? We should just "let it go", cuz "everyone gets away with stuff"?

My feeling is the idiot shoulda thought of that before running for president.

The fact that this was all probably just a publicity stunt to boost his brand gone horribly awry is truly stunning when one contemplates it.

Dummy phony "successful businessman" prolly ruined himself by accidentally winning.:lamo

Your side will prolly need a crew of these standing by.

Maybe you’re the one who can do this....what part of a tax return would show Trump was compromised by a foreign nation? What schedule would one look at to find that information? What would the compromising information look like? I mean, seriously, what do you think the tax return could possibly show?

Look, honestly IDK anything about "wealthy person taxes". I don't think that's what's happening here. I'm just saying, if, the returns were illegally shown and somehow "extremely damning" (in any way), are you seriously one who things that a greater good wouldn't be served?

I know, from what I've seen of your postings, I don't know if you're capable of fathoming that Trump could possibly be guilty of anything, but, if you can imagine such a scenario?

Personally I have a feeling Cohen is gonna be a lot more damning and trouble for Trump than Mueller (who I think will be anticlimactic because rit's mostly gonna be passed off to SDNY and other places and remain ongoing). We all have to wait and see tho, and that's what keeps it interesting.

The most overused meme in history but thanks for trying...

Must suck knowing deep down how right I am, and how impossible it is for your ego to admit it, even to yourself huh?

Cheer up, Pence will likely be there on the 2020 ballot to get whipped like a redheaded stepchild, but you can still vote for a losing cause even so!:lamo

Yes, he is. A Trump apologist cum laude.

A better scenario would be if Trumps tax returns do not correlate to what Robert Mueller has discovered and can prove.

The IRS has never charged Trump with anything but these doofuses will find something. It's equal parts funny and stupid, sort of like the left.

Oh, Mueller is a tax auditor now? Who gave him that authority? Is he Tsar?

I have to repeat:

And remember: when these "people" say things like "but how can you believe him if he's an admitted liar"....

...when they say that, just remember that they've never once complained about a prosecutor (even Mueller) rolling up a mafia organization by using witnesses who are much worse people than mere liars. Remember that, and you'll remember that the only reason they attack Cohen is for their own stupid, dishonest, and deeply partisan ends.

What has Cohen been convicted of? Perjury...was it?

Y'all sure are hung up on those tax returns. :lamo

I have to repeat:

Some of us have already the above on the other two JacksoninPA spamming threads where Cohen is going to testify that Trump is a blah, blah, blah and a big fat orange blah.

but bless your heart for repeating it anyway....
