And the public pays those decision-makers well: *NREL’s top executive, Dr. Dan Arvizu, makes close to a million dollars per year. His two top lieutenants rake in more than half a million each and nine others make more than $350,000 a year

Thanks for... reporting nothing new.

NREL is a pretty big government agency, under the auspices of the DOE, with the research centers in CO and offices in DC. Since people have a habit of blowing up federal buildings, I'm not surprised that some guy who showed up, announced "I'm a taxpayer let me in!" got turned away. It's no secret that Obama has funneled cash to renewable research.

By the way, Exxon Mobil donated over $3.6 million to candidates in 2012, and another $13 million to PACs in 2012. That doesn't include the various execs, like the CEO who pulled in $40 million in 2011. I'm gonna guess the fossil fuel industry & lobbyists outspends the renewable energy industry by orders of magnitude. Why not check into that?

Yep, this smells porky for sure, but consider that at least 534 more of these private/gov't "partnerships" are likely out there, some getting taxpayer funding from more than one federal department, agency, program or block/research grants, with teams of congress critters on "their side". Big oil, big gas, big coal, big green energy and big agriculture, big defense, big education, big justice and big etc. all have these sweatheart deals, with congress critters "dedicated" to their causes and taxpayers paying for all of it, including the "kickbacks" called campaign contributions. It is amazing that these "experts", funded entirely by the taxpayers, make more than the POTUS yet are in charge of these "non-profits" that are "private". ;)

 :doh Great logic there, Skippy. Is this the "Everybody is ripping off the taxpayers so why not them too?" argument again? Or is it that the "Green energy non-profit taxpayer ripoffs are fair because big oil gets unfair tax subsidies" argument?

The "everyone is buying politicians so it is all fair" excuse is so tiring; it seems that we need a thread just for that.
