(CNBC) Education Department says Columbia University fails to meet accreditation standards

So, what, Columbia threw all the Jews out?

That's the funniest part about all of this. Columbia is by far the jewiest of all the Ivys.

Back in the '20s and '30s, they capitulated to the ancestors of today's MAGAs, and actually put quotas into place, because right-wing Americans thought it was unfair that Columbia admitted too many Jews.

They really are the Neville Chamberlain of Ivys.

Was this not clear when they started burning Harvard witches at the stake?

This administration is declaring war on knowledge, education, and truth, and I'm sorry, there is no democracy without the free flow of information between people, which is what they're really trying to undermine.

Authoritarian regimes attack education and freedoms of speech and the press because they want to become the source of truth.

But these students cannot censor the thoughts and speech of others that are different than them, nor others expressing it to them in public spaces.

I totally agree, but the federal government does not. Here's the law:

No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

If the Jewish students are being truthful, and Columbia didn't do anything about it, then yes, they violated title 6.

Just imagine if it were black students being harassed by white students. I'm pretty sure then Columbia would have taken swift, and merciless action.

Can you believe the incredible f'ing irony of Trump attacking anything on the basis that they were discriminating on the basis of race, color, or national origin????

The irony was not lost at all . . .

Columbia certainly isn't protecting Jewish students.

Is this the same Harvard who sent their plagiarist President to Congress to testify that whether or not calling for the genocide of Jews violates their code of conduct depends on the context? That Harvard?

I think you're misrepresenting facts.

Explain through the accreditation requirements exactly what constitutes “ failure to protect Jewish students from hate and harassment.

They did mess up. But not in the way you think.

It'll be a generation before Columbia's reputation recovers for their attempts at appeasement. They should have known better.

That's one of the more ridiculous arguments posted on this board.

Explain how admitting their mistakes and working to correct them is "appeasement"

That was literally her testimony.

It was, but you're misrepresenting what she said, either because you can't understand context or deliberately misconstruing context in a vain attempt to win the internet.

Let's flip this around: if she said whether Zionists or their American enablers calling for the continued ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza was a violation of school policy depended on the context, would you apply the same standard?

The only mistake they made was capitulating to Trump's demands. For the number of Jews in Columbia's leadership, it's amazing they forgot that appeasement doesn't work with fascists - this thread is proof of that.

You're smart enough to see how this is going to play out, no matter how much you pretend otherwise. Don't play stupid.

I mean... as long as institutions take federal money, the federal government will have the power to take it away.

I get that. I mean, in technical terms. But, I don't like it one bit in general terms.

As to whatever may or may not have occurred at Columbia earlier, they've committed to work with Trump to meet his demands.

Unfortunately, they claim Trump is not communicating with them and they don't know what his demands are.
