They're bored with trying to ruin works of art, so now they are desecrating graves. They need to have the book (preferably an encyclopedia) thrown at them.

Two women have been arrested after climate protesters spray-painted over the grave of Charles Darwin inside Westminster Abbey.

Climate protest group Just Stop Oil (JSO) said two activists used chalk paint on the grave of the famous naturalist, who is best known for his theories on evolution.

They are just pissed because Darwinism somehow just skipped right past them.

There seems to be a large misconception among climate activists about the risks from Human caused climate change.
None of the studies out there are claiming that Earth will become uninhabitable, or that we are heading for
an extinction event. This is mostly hyperbole from the media, who need a sensational story.
Here is a good example.
US Map Shows How States May Be Submerged by Rising Sea Levels in 2100
A map of the contiguous U.S. shows how coastal states would be affected by 6 feet of sea level rise, an environmental change that could occur by the end of the next century due to ice sheet loss accelerated by climate change.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates there will be between 43 and 84 centimeters (1.4 and 2.8 feet) of sea level rise by the year 2100, but said that an increase of 2 meters (6.6 feet) "cannot be ruled out."
So "cannot be ruled out" becomes the year 2100 sea level rise.
For instance, New York would see fairly marginal changes to its coastline with 6 feet of sea level rise, but if all the ice sheets melted, it is expected that most of New York City and all of Long Island would be subsumed by the Atlantic.
The reality is that the global sea level is raising at ~3 mm per year.
NOAA Sea level Battery Park
At the current rate we can expect about 9 inches of sea level rise by year 2100.
Even doubling that rate would not put us near the 72 inches (6 Feet) discussed!

How odd. What did poor ol' Charles have to do with climate change?

So they desecrated his grave because he would be sympathetic to their cause?

"We've done it on Darwin's grave specifically because he would be turning in that grave because of the sixth mass extinction taking place now."

"Ms Lee added: "I believe he would approve because he was a good scientist and he would be following the science, and he would be as upset as us with the government for ignoring the science."

And these muddled people were schoolteachers.

They look a bit on in the years. Maybe someone will make note of who they are, follow obits, and piss on their graves.

Leave the dead out of it. Doesn't get much more disrespectful than that.

My understanding is that sea level rise is mostly because of thermal expansion, not melting ice. An ocean is an enormous mass and a couple of degrees of temperature rise can cause a lot of expansion. This would be more dramatic at higher latitudes.
Also, sea ice melting doesn't change the sea level. Your glass doesn't get fuller when the ice cubes melt.

It really does not matter what is causing the sea level to rise, but how fast the sea level is raising.
Currently the rate is not nearly fast enough to have a 6 foot sea level rise by year 2100, yet that is the standard used in the
article. They basically took the extreme outlier, and then wrote an article is that were the future prediction,
hyperbole!

Wouldn't you expect more sea level rise in the Beaufort Sea than the Gulf of Mexico?
Maybe what you're talking about is a global average.

Actually the high latitudes are almost all seeing sea levels fall, likely because of glacial rebound.
Churchill, has been declining for almost 80 years.

Indeed, sea level rise is not uniform throughout all locations, at all latitudes.

JSO activists are absolute morons and genuine threats to civil society.

It's still paint, just not as durable unless it's sealed. I've used some for the look, and it's been holding up just fine with no sealing.
Not just hosing it away...

So no issue with vandalizing a grave? Can I go graffiti grandma mrjurrs?

Where ever that simple map came from, it is deceptive. It is a NOAA map. I found the interactive and put the current and 6 ft. side by side.

What is unclear on the posted map is that it is the outlines of the affected counties. The flood increase is not clear. There is actually very little change in the land area, and 6 ft. is easy to content with.

Like everything, they have to use the "Sky is Falling" approach. They the activists wonder why they lose credibility with all their false predictions. I have to admit, the ignorant masses as shown by so many members here fall for it though.

The map is nice, and allows you to zoom way out. Even can put an address in.

NOAA Sea level Battery Park
The Battery park trend does show the rise accelerated in the last couple decades, which coincides with the reduced cloud cover which coincides with the dramatic increase of China coal power. The suns energy is the primary heat source for ocean thermal expansion.

Yes. We have had discussions in other threads about the cloud cover percentage being reduced. Less solar energy is being reflected back to space and absorbed by the oceans, accelerating thermal expansion. We do not know with certainty why this is happening, but we do know that aerosols affect cloud seeding and growth. China has been heavily building coal plants for a few decades now. the trend appears to me, and I do solidly believe the aerosols in the atmosphere from their coal power is causing this.
Also, sea ice melting doesn't change the sea level. Your glass doesn't get fuller when the ice cubes melt.
It does by a minuscule amount, but not enough to matter. When ice melts into salt water, the change in density actually does cause an insignificant increase, but it is exceptionally small.

If you follow what is claimed about sheet ice melt, the oceans will rise 1 mm for every 361 gigatons of sheet ice loss. 1 mm for every gigaton per million square km of ocean area.

It really does not matter what is causing the sea level to rise, but how fast the sea level is raising.

That hyperbole is why they are losing credibility. If they could just be honest, they could be respected. But the activism will not permit the truth.

Maybe what you're talking about is a global average.
There should be no discernible absolute sea level rise at different locations. There are different factors involved that average out, except for the areas the land actually sinks or rises.

Oh no CHALK PAINT!

Yes, we know. You care not about vandalism until it affects you. Where is your sense of being a good citizen?

these folks need to go to jail for the crime they committed. Protest is legal, defacing property or graves or monuments is not.

I understand and respect the principle you are employing in your argument, but I don't know if the punishment you propose fits the crime. I suspect the offense merely carries a fine, rather than jail time.
