Obama is an enormous gift to the Empire. Just as he has silenced most of the single-payer movement, an effort characterized by its superb scholarship exceeded only by its timidity, Obama has shut down the antiwar movement, completely in thrall as it is to the Democrat Party and Identity Politics. Why exactly the peace movement has caved to Obama is not entirely clear. Like the single-payer movement, it is wracked by spinelessness, brimming with reverence for authority and a near insatiable appetite to be “part of the crowd.” Those taken in by Obama’s arguments that the increasingly bloody and brutal AfPak war is actually a “war of necessity,” should read Steven Walt’s easy demolition of that “argument.” (2) Basically Obama’s logic is the same as Bush’s moronic rationale that “We are fighting them over there so we do not have to fight them over here.” There is a potential for “safe havens for terrorists,” as the Obamalogues and neocons like to call them, all over the world; and no one can possibly believe the US can invade them all. However, the ones which Israel detests or which allow control of oil pipelines or permit encirclement of China and Russia will see US troops sooner or later.

Whether you like Sheehan or not, the author does have a point.

What do you call it when they confiscate firearms from U.S. citizens with no due process ? Those grabbers should have been shot for their insolence.

Many on the left were against the Iraq war, not the Afghanistan War.

Also, Cindy Sheehan lost a lot of her support when she called New Orleans an "occupation".
My memory is better, she lost her support when she lost her usefulness.

Show some compassion for crying out loud.

A severe flogging, followed by branding would have been quite sufficient, thank you so very much.

The article gives me hope for a fond wish, that Leftists will once again come to see politics in general as something beneath them and refuse to participate.

How true. Rush says it best.

Rush Limbaugh captured the hypocrisy of the liberal left in his commentary, thus:

“Now that she’s headed to Martha’s Vineyard, the State-Controlled Media, Charlie Gibson, State-Controlled Anchor, ABC: ‘Enough already.’ Cindy, leave it alone, get out, we’re not interested, we’re not going to cover you going to Martha’s Vineyard because our guy is president now and you’re just a hassle. You’re just a problem. To these people, they never had any true, genuine emotional interest in her. She was just a pawn. She was just a woman to be used and then thrown overboard once they’re through with her and they’re through with her. They don’t want any part of Cindy Sheehan protesting against any war when Obama happens to be president."

I wished for the same when I read that Falwell died. How remarkable it would be if those on the far right were to become discouraged from political participation by the loss of their ideologue! Alas, t'was not to be...

why are we still talking about Cindy Sheehan?

Cindy Sheehan was just the vehicle for a message nothing more.

You are turning her in to some thing shes not.

In the day and age of health care, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, Swine flue, bird flew, ADIS/hiv, terrorism, the 1st black president, and so so much more.

What you have to talk about is little old Cindy Sheehan come one people.

Regarding the 'capturing of hypocrisy', Limbaugh has done nothing of the sort; he's merely done what he's always done - pander to his audience. I supported Sheehan when she called for getting out of Iraq, because me and a whole host of liberals wanted just that. Afghanistan, however, is a different matter. I don't recall those planes slamming into the twin towers specifically targetting conservatives or liberals, and I don't recall liberals opposing the invasion of Afghanistan.

You can certainly speculate with other conservatives as to why Sheehan keeps a lonely vigil and where her liberal supporters went, but if you want the most accurate answer, it's probably best to ask those of us on the left why we went our separate ways. Post #2 says it all, imho.

He has always spoken compassionately of her, much more so than I.

Yep. Rush is much more "Diplomatic" than I too... I've never learned to "Suffer Fools Gladly". Being in a Combat Zone has a tendency of "Changing Your Perspectives".

Peace to thee, and Thine Own.:)

Everybody- right and left- pretty much always considered Sheehan a wingnut.
I think she was/is deranged by the loss of her son.
Many on the Left were pushed into supporting her by the Right's cruelty.
I recall some rightwingers on this forum saying that it was fortunate that her son was dead, so that he wouldn't have to be humiliated by her behavior. Ordinary people tend to balk at this level of cruelty; it pushes them to defend people they otherwise would merely pity.

I think, and people will think me cruel, that she has aggrandized herself by touting the death of her son, and cannibalizing his memory.

If she understood him, I think, and the sacrifice he was willing to make, she'd have been far more likely to honor his memory, not eclipse it.

Naw, we invented formalized politics. We just never should have let the kids play with it.

You Lefitists really need to come to grips with the idea of free speech! We can talk about nearly anything.

By the way a "flue" is part of a wood stove, "flew" is a verb that admittedly is often connected with birds, Obama is properly only half black, health care is not unique to this age and AIDS/HIV can be effectively addressed by people not putting certain things where Nature and God never intended. Aside from that your post is correct in that certain countries do exist today.

You Rightists really need to come to grips with the idea that free speech applies to the other guy as well as yourself! :rofl That includes a post asking wtf are morons still talking about this nonsubject. :2wave:

Me.

Funny, it's been my experience that the ones that care about typonese are the ones without an idea to argue. As in this case. :2wave:

Naw, we invented formalized politics. We just never should have let the kids play with it.

Invented? Pshaw! But on the rest I agree - based on my own interpretation of your second sentence, of course. Being politically in bed with those Falwellians is quite the Faustian bargain, I imagine.

Because majority of those who were anti-war where on the left while you saw some sprinkles of anti-imperalist libertarians and even smaller anti-war conservatives. Majority of the anti-war left has abandoned her, Im just surprised the neocon-right isnt enjoying this as I expected. You would think they would enjoy when the left destroys their own.

You know, there are so very many things you could justifiably accuse me of. An excess of charm, for instance.

However, lack of ideas or a willingness to argue for them is not one.

Except in this case .... as was noted. You had not a thing to hang your snark on, and delivered it anyway. No idea to argue, start attacking misspelling, then couple it with un-cute posting tricks that require scrolling.

You had nothing. But, never fear, even the most charming posters can slip. Calling you on dirty pool here in no way diminishes your other posts. So if they are excessively charming, I'm sure they will still be so.

We can't ignore someone, just because they're a minority...

Can we, Obama?

Yes you can its your chose.

Are you more committed to solving big problems saving lives or being partizan over small dramas and being right about your view point.

Being right bout your views just continues the the problems we have.
