Personally I feel it's a bit too late for a trade war with China because we've already lost. We failed to learn anything in our trade relations with Japan and Taiwan as well. We allowed ourselves to be "dumped" out of several industries, but Chinse supercomputing won't even participate in the TOP500 without Intel, AMD, and NVidia products. So use

China waived a 125% tariff on ethane imports from the U.S. on Tuesday, according to a report from Reuters.

China had initially imposed the tariff earlier this month as part of its retaliation against President Donald Trump's Liberation Day tariff campaign. China is responsible for purchasing roughly half of America's ethane exports each year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The crazy thing is my company tried to produce gas in Mongolia, but the Chinese oil indstustry's refusal to honor intellectual technology kept us out, and we all know Gazprom can't do it.

FOX Corp. is the propaganda wing of the Trump administration. No other news organization has paid out hundreds of millions of dollars because they lied to support 1 specific president.

This is no different.

😃

Funny. When the USA backs off from tariffs it's strategy. When China does it's capitulation.

🤷‍♀️

If they did, that just means the Chinese government doesn’t want to hurt their people.

Meanwhile, the current POTUS of the US is perfectly fine inflicting pain upon Americans. And our MAGA controlled Congress is perfectly fine going along with it.

Maybe the Chinese have it better 🤷‍♀️

China is doing the same thing the Trump administration is doing, excluding tariffs on things that would completely ruin it's economy. I don't know, since it seems to change weekly, but pretty sure we don't apply tariffs to computers, smartphones, and other electronics from China.

I wouldn't capitulation unless the US had already capitulated by excluding things from tariffs.

Also, I'm confused, Maga seems to run around telling us these tariffs are going to bring back manufacturing jobs that no one wants to work. At the same time, they seem to say that because of every previous President, this trade war is lost. Which is it? Why start a trade war if it's "lost" before it begins?

Better yet, why launch a trade war against the entire world at the same time when you already are making excuses as to why the trade war against China is lost?

I don't see anything in here to change my opinion that Trump launched us into a stupid trade war that he didn't really plan for, and is now making things up as he goes.

Xi Jinping apparently reached out to leaders in other countries, mainly Australia and Japan, to work against US trade policy, and he was surprised to find out they'd rather deal with Donald Trump than him.

So he had to back down.

Yeah China "caved" after bat-s**t crazy Trump backtracked again. Common theme with him. You see if you initiate something and someone retaliates and you backtrack on your what you initiated then the people responding by withdrawing their response to your initial position are not caving. But hey whatever you need to tell yourself to keep faith in dear leader.

If you remove your tariffs that you put into place because some the bat-s**t crazy President backed down on U.S. tariffs that is NOT backing down. To say so is to delude yourself.

Japan and Australia don’t export ethane - both are net importers.

Your post makes no sense considering what China has dropped tariffs on.

Did you even read the body of the link you shared past the headline?

Source?

China is rapidly finding out that American imports due to poor domestic semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries can't be replaced with Nikes and Beanie Babies.

Let's say, for argument's sake, China backs off completely with their tariffs. What exactly did Trump achieve? Please be specific.

That is the whole point. Two words answer all of your questions. Donald Trump !!!!

The Chinese economy sucks big time and they need to avoid a major collapse. The US isn't even in recession territory.

OTOH, the Chinese tend to accept hardships much better than the many Chicken Littles in the US who go apeshit when the price of Nikes or Starbuck ventes go up.

These are not normal times for China. They're trying to hold it together for many reasons other than just trade. Trump picked a good time to take them on. Kick them when they're down. Funny how Xi tried to recruit other countries to go against Trump calling Trump a 'bully'. Truth is Xi the bully both military and economically. Everyone in Asian already knows that. The only friends Xi has this the Democratic party elite who used China trade to enriched themselves over the last two decades.

Dem elite blah blah blah lol

But like ethane (they have 2 new ethane cracking facilities online since '22), producing equivalent silicon is just a matter of time. They are way ahead on EV and battery production, we don't make any Nike shoes in the US.

Bare foot while pushing my car to the gas station....

TDS tells you the answer.
Still? After Righties have been ridiculed for constantly using TDS as an excuse for Trump? Lack of imagination? Have to drag out the most tired acronym on the planet. Like little children who just regurgitate the same phrases over and over again?

Mind you, TDS is a real serious disease:

I have a serious suggestion for you, if you don't want to end up looking like a fool, don't make foolish comments. We can always turn it around on you.

You call lowering some tariffs...caving?

Who started the trade war?

Here's the thing, China never wanted the trade war. The only nation on earth that wanted this disastrously stupid shit is the People's Democratic Republic of MAGA. The best way to interpret any 'caving' on China's part isn't caving, but rather, softening the pain for their own citizens by offering the US an exit ramp, which is in their interests as well. I think China knows that we don't have a particularly high tolerance for economic pain - not when 1 in 3 adults is having a hard time keeping up with their debt. https://www.morningstar.com/news/pr...eir-debt-is-unmanageable-achieve-survey-finds

They also know that elections are a thing.

That explains why they have an illegal immigration problem and we don't, Oh wait...

Trump tariffs in a nutshell. And i do mean a nutshell who has no plan

Trump's tariff strategy with China is relatively straightforward:

1. Announce tariffs
2. Delay tariffs
3. Raise tariffs
4. Delay tariffs again
5. 11th hour delay on tariffs taking effect
6. Declare victory
7. Put tariffs into effect
8. Withdraw tariffs 24 hours later
9. Demonize China for its tariffs, threaten new tariffs
10. Declare a deal has been reached, share no details about it
11. Announce new tariffs claiming the deal was broken
12. Delay new tariffs because of Great Compassion
13. Increase threatened tariffs
14. Announce a 30 day delay to the new tariffs
15. Put new tariffs into effect 48 hours after previous announcement
16. Announce that the tariffs never went into effect and yet raised enormous monies
17. Announce the withdrawl of tariffs due to a new Deal
18. Go to Step 1 and repeat

would that be the same Japanese government that told Trump he was nothing more than a gangster and said they would be making no deal after the USA hit Japan with a so called deal that looked like a ultamatim and sice then Japan has swung towards having closer ties with China and have announced huge trade deals , Toyota, Honda, Nissan have announced huge investments in China and not the USA, also the EU is also pivoting towards China, apart from the criminal regime of Israel, America is billy no mates
