Why is it that we, despite being a supposedly civilized society, openly tolerate and encourage the practice of groups of schoolchildren being forced to listen to perverts describing every aspect and detail of possible sexual activities. We have a euphemism for such abuse, we call it "sex education". Some, who know that this is wrong, try to pretend that as long as they the program includes "but don't do any of this ", that it's ok. Personally I have no tolerance for such child abusers and believe they should be locked up for a very long time.

If parents in this country did a better job, I'd almost agree about sex ed. Alas...schools are in the awkward position of trying to provide kids with a ballanced starting point, despite some parents best efforts or lack of.

Are you related to Navy Pride?

Having groups of children listen to someone lecture about a topic which by its nature ought to be private is not the answer.

Oh for crying out loud - education = abuse? :doh

You think it's acceptable for an adult to force a group of school children to listen to him describe lurid details of sexual activity?

Are you related to Navy Pride?

Not to my knowledge. Why?

How about a compromise.

If sex ed is child abuse, so is abstinence only, and teaching creationism.

Lurid details?

I had to take sex ed, and it was exactly that. Education about human reproduction. Could have been called biology.

What kind of school did you go to?

I don't support "abstinence only" programs, and would agree about them. I wouldn't say that creationism is child abuse, although it is stupid.

That's not like what I've heard about these programs.

I'm actually not speaking from first-hand experience. I'm speaking from research I've done about the issue, and from things I've heard from people who have first-hand experience with the issue.

Oh, for crying out loud...

"Lurid sexual details?" "Child abuse?" Are you f'ing for real? How about some legitimate sources to back up your knee-jerk, neocon, Religious Right nonsense?

Have some evidence? Or are you going to rely on "but, a friend of a friend TOLD ME?"

Any evidence from sources WITHOUT an agenda and ax to grind? Seriously, posting information from the "Global Catholic Network" doesn't exactly help your case. Your "source" spends more time quoting religious figures and establishing opinion as fact than it does quoting reputable statistics. Come on, work with me here. Anything from sources that AREN'T biased, partisan, religious hacks?

Not a friend of a friend.
Oh, okay, like that makes a difference :lamo

Oh, here's my favorite part of your "source":

"None of the programs we have seen teach young people the most essential facts — e.g. that fornication and adultery are mortal sins; that committing these sins just once may result in acquiring an incurable disease that will be with the person for life, or in an unwanted pregnancy. There is hardly anything a teenager could need to know that would be of more importance to his present and future life."

So, it is "essential fact" that "fornication and adultery" (both loaded terms that are 100% out-of-place in sex education) are "moral sins?" Well, maybe if you're a Catholic. But, since you are attempting to discuss the issue in a wider context that is religiously independent, this claim is just irrelevant...if not downright laughable.

This is why we can't have nice things, Paleocon. Religious hackery has no place in discussions among logical adults.

Wait, if education is child abuse, parents teaching their kids about sex is also child abuse. Why do you support that?

Are you some kind of sicko pervert or something? He was your son for god's sake!

That reminds me of two jokes:

1. "I was raised a Catholic, and the most annoying thing about going to church was all the standing up, sitting down, and kneeling. I wish the priest could've just picked a position and ****** me!" - Jimmy Carr

2. "The Catholic Church has a great thing at the moment. Say they don't want sex education in schools because it's like giving the kids pornography. As opposed to the traditional Catholic method of educating them of actually ******* them. Sex education at my school was a muttered warning about the janitor." - Frankie Boyle

I love how people that have completely out of there mind opinions such as teaching is child abuse make polls and if you support the teaching of children Sex Ed You SUPPORT CHILD ABUSE

What? are you really that desperate to have people agree with you? and if they disagree with you they support child abuse in your mind? this is a sad sad excuse for a fair and balanced poll

Do you really see no difference between discussing a sensitive issue individually versus to a whole group?

We're not talking about something as mild as a "sensitive issue", we're talking about something EXTREMELY serious, we're talking about CHILD ABUSE.

Why do YOU think it's ok for parents to "abuse" their child?

I'm underage. Can I sue you for child abuse?
