I recently saw that George Carlin did a routine on the education system here in the U.S. I was surprised to see him saying the same sorts of things that I have been saying for years. I'll show you the video. Watch it. You might learn something.

I tried clicking on this link myself to watch the video. It didn't play worth a damn. You might be better off watching it on youtube. Just enter there, "What George Carlin had to say about education."

As if all that wasn't bad enough, in his first meeting with Reagan after he was elected president, this is one of the things CIA director William Casey had to tell Reagan. Why does the government act that way? My best guess is that as the old saying goes, "Knowledge is power." And the government wants you powerless in that regard.

Education in most states is controlled by the people by local boards, and their state-elected representitives. The education system reflects the local voters....

That is not a good commentary on the state of society, unfortunately.

Our society just elected a criminal, sex offender, and a person who tried to overthrow an election---------the education system will reflect that somewhat.......

Or maybe election is a reflection of the education system? Either way, still not a good commentary.

agree-----one must first define "education system"
Anybody that has to ask that should probably get back on X-Box playing more Call of Duty.

.........students spend 93% of their time OUTSIDE of the school----the system may not be what you think it is.....

If you use George Carlin as a measure of your 'suppose' advanced intellect. I got bad news for you....that you, probably won't get.

Red Herring and a bit of a Straw Man as well.

That means your post is off topic and wrong.

You don't get it-----you have to define "education system"...........................try not to dodge this time. Have a little courage.

I already know what Education System means... you are the one having trouble with basics. Maybe more Call of Duty will help you figure it out?

What does THAT have to do with anything?????
I thought that would grab your attention over the actual argument. LOL

One of the goals of the Federal Dept of Education is to ensure that there are at least SOME very basic uniform minimum standards FOR all those varied state, county and local school boards.

Carlin was not making an academic statement, nor was he attempting to engage in intellectualism, nor was his standup comedy routine any form of Master's Thesis, nor did he hold himself or his material out as any kind of measure.

You just disagree with his opinions and can't/won't explain why.

Carlin does his usual bit of speaking a lot but saying very little and sure it's good slop for midwits on the doorstep of politics but I'm not sure what the actual conclusion is here?

The country has undeniably become more liberal over time. The country has undeniably performed worst on tests nationally over time. There are signs that competency in mathematics and language arts are declining and have been for decades.

So what exactly is the liberal conclusion here? Nebulous "big business" owns the politicians and for some reason they want to make people dumber? If that is the case and voting is useless (if not outright harmful), then what good is democracy? If the country has stranded further from tradition as a consequence of atomization over time, what is the liberal critique here?

And they are all stupid. In part, thanks to the CIA. You know the results.

Not a measure. He was simply right. I could tell you other things far more intelligent. But this forum wouldn't allow me to say them.

If you want to know what a liberal thinks, I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm not a liberal. I'm a rationalist.
