From the article:

Gary Kleck, PhD, the David J. Bordua Emeritus Professor of Criminology at Florida State University, published a new paper: “What Do CDC’s Surveys Say About the Frequency of Defensive Gun Uses?” The heart of the matter is that Dr. Kleck and co-author Marc Gertz, PhD were right in their 1995 blockbuster study, “Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense with a Gun”, about the number of defensive gun uses in 1992—as many as 2.4 million per year in the United States.

...

The CDC conducted its own surveys in 1996, 1997 and 1998 after Kleck and Gertz’s came out. It never reported or even acknowledged its data or their implications.
This points to the CDC continuing to suppress the truth about the true public health value of gun ownership, even after the Dickey amendment of 1996 called it out for its documented shilling for gun control. For the full stories about that shameful history, see the first person accounts of DRGO founder TimothyWheeler, MD and colleague Miguel Faria, MD.

Note the other 5 countries. Note the rate of gun suicide in the US.
CHICAGO — Gun deaths worldwide total about 250,000 yearly and the United States is among just six countries that make up half of those fatalities, a study found.

Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico and Venezuela are the countries that with the U.S. contributed to half the study deaths. The study raises concerns about the lack of research on causes of gun violence and ways to prevent it, the editorial said.

Note that the rate of gun suicide in the US is still lower than the suicide rates of Finland, Russia, Japan and South Korea.

How do you stop someone from committing suicide?

Well it is clear what one solution is.

I do hope you'll share it with us, as the moderate gun control in Finland, the strict gun control in Russia and the almost complete absence of citizen-owned firearms in Japan and South Korea haven't kept them from having higher suicide rates than the US.

Waiting periods, doctors reporting much more freely to background check systems, families much more easily able to apply to have guns removed from mentally ill family members

After looking at your article, I guess I will have to assume you have nothing to say about the frequency of Defensive Gun Uses, which was the subject of the original article.

Why do you think the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION is hiding this info?

Lots of defensive use of firearms does not mean you have a safe area. People in war zones use their firearms defensively very frequently. I still would not say that A war zone is a safe area. On the contrary, it just means you have a war zone.

Uh....no. 2 veterans kill themselves every day. Gun control can reduce suicides

Why is Japan's suicide rate twice that of The United states, with a gun ownership rate that's 1/10th of The United States?

Gun control doesn't prevent suicides. The stats prove that this is a lame ass argument in favor of gun control.

How many defensive uses go unreported? Just the sight of a gun is enough to take the wind out of a criminals sail. Crime is stopped, criminal goes free with no holes in him and for the gun owners part, they are safe and no need to call the police and go thru the hassel.

In the US the evidence is clear. Pick a state with high suicides. I guarantee you they have lax gun laws.

How come when I suggested improved reporting on background check system you shot me down?
