An overwhelming 71% of Californians supported Proposition 36, which will upgrade misdemeanor smash-n-grab crimes to Felony.

Prop 47 (which was passed in 2014) downgraded most thefts from felonies to misdemeanors if the amount stolen was under $950. Prop 36 effectively reverses Prop 47 and smash-n-grab crimes can once again be prosecuted as felonies and are now eligible for Three Strikes protocols.

This is a crushing blow to Governor Newsom, L.A.D.A. Gascon and all the rest of the Californian LWLs who will do whatever they can to coddle criminals.

Prop 36 is an important referendum on Crime.

Did we ever find out how Kamala voted on this one? She definitely wasn't confident in her position.

It's flawed, but since the Dem controlled legislature failed to do enough it was inevitable measure was going pass with broad support.

Finally even the liberals have had enough of woke policies. California is a mess and it's a result of democrat policies.

George Soros is having a meltdown right about now.

At this point in time, Kamala's position on Prop 36 isn't even relevant.

Yes - our Neighborhood Watch Captain is a . . . democrat. And the guy is armed to the teeth. I'm not joking.
California is a mess and it's a result of democrat policies.
True. And sad. It will take a long time to remedy all the messes that the dems have created in the past 25 years.

I wish I could give this post a million likes! Yes, even the good people of bluey-blue California said enough is enough.

I live in the heart of the bluest part of the state but on NextDoor, you could see the palpable anger of my neighbors over people just walking into the supermarket or Home Depot, filling up a cart or bag and walking out.

I witnessed this myself recently at a Target store in our area. They had a security guard present, but he was powerless to do anything.

Well, today's passage of Prop 36 changes that.

I see it about twice a month at the local supermarket.

Well, today's passage of Prop 36 changes that.
It's a start. But the law means nothing if the cops won't make arrests and the courts won't prosecute.

True.

We got that covered too. Los Angeles County voters canned that feckless D.A., George Gascón. (it was a LANDSLIDE loss)

:D

It was a curiosity. Kamala's days of relevence are numbered.

Prop 36 passed and Gascon was voted out. A pretty good night last night in California in the law & order arena.

Meanwhile, the convict will move into the WH.

California's occasional ratchet-back followed by swing-left-again is like a live-action play of Rudyard Kipling's Gods of the Copybook Headings.

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

One of a handful of good things to come out of the 2024 Election, I suppose.

Great Proposition.

They needed it since their good-for-nothing "progressive" government seems to prefer protecting criminals from their victims rather than the victims and their property.

Why they keep re-electing these people is a mystery to me.

I've worked in retail and know just how brazen some theives can be so I have no problem with this.

Social experimentation is one of the features of a western liberal society. Sometimes experiments are not successful and sometimes they are.

I voted for 36 and am glad to see it passed.

47 was a couple of years before we moved here and I would not have supported it.

I witnessed this myself recently at a Target store in our area. They had a security guard present, but he was powerless to do anything.

Well, today's passage of Prop 36 changes that.
Proposition 36 passing will not change anything unless radical Leftist prosecutors are replaced also. No doubt lawsuits are all ready being prepared challenging the validity of Proposition 36 under the state constitution. Enforcement will be suspended while the lawsuits are being adjudicated.

The California electorate is the dumbest in nation. It's awful having to admit that, but it's true. My Representative was voted THREE times as being the "Most Corrupt Person In Congress" by a D.C. watchdog group. She still is IMO and she's been the Representative for our 43rd District SINCE 1991!

THIRTY THREE years of corruption and incompetence. . . but the idiot voters keep electing her.

Oh well.
