He's a public official - he's a cabinet official - Transportation falls under him. It's 3 weeks into the disaster, and he hasn't even gone to the site yet. Instead these so-called public officials are all hiding away in the name of "privacy"- it's disgusting.

You only care about your fellow party cronies, and care nothing about the suffering of the people.

Since I'm not a Democrat, no, the "party cronies" are irrelevant to me. What is interesting in this case is the ire on public officials and none on the company which is the actual cause. They have a lot more to answer for on the state of their equipment and the lobbying efforts they make to reduce the costs of safety and instead place them on the public who funds the agencies that end up having to respond.

He is indeed a public official and a cabinet official, and in that exchange he answered the woman's questions, despite her just popping up out of nowhere to conduct an interview. The worst part was she didn't even ask anything that would have been revelatory; she just asked for a message to the people of East Palestine and when he was going down there. Surely you didn't think he was going to give some person he didn't know info on when he was going anywhere, right?

His department has been there since day one. The NTSB has been on site documenting evidence, acquiring information and interviewing witnesses and the people and organizations involved to determine the causes of the accident what remedies are to be recommended. His department is largely regulatory and oversight in nature. It is not a part of accident/disaster relief efforts. It's role is primarily an investigatory one. Once the NTSB completes it's investigation and forwards it's findings to the Secretary Mr Buttigieg will have plenty to say about what happens next then.
