Bush said on national TV that it will cost $200 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans and that it will be paid for by ----->>>"CUTTING PROGRAMS!!!"<<<----- So BEWARE all you VETS, RETIRED, POOR and SICK people that are getting help from our Gov programs, YOU will now be getting a CUT in your programs by Bush!

Hey BUSH! I got an idea!!!
How about NOT EXTENDING your BIG tax break to your buddies the RICH?
That will save enough to rebuild the whole U.S.

Hummmmm! Wonder what our troops and their familys will have to say about this?
Hummmmmm! What do all you retired people out there think?
Hummmmmmm! Will you POOR voters ever vote for a Republican???

Had enough?

Shrubbie sees his role as supporting his rich friends. And he won't face reelction. So of course, he will bleed everybody else to help his friends. Was it Frisk's summer house that was washed away? He certainly needs help, right? But hey, shrubbie can always cut the funding to half a dozen shelters and food banks so Frisk can rebuild.

Compared to lending the military to Haliburton so its can get its oil and contracts, at the cost of 1700+ soldiers dying for corporate profit, what is a bit of stiffing the poor.:doh

Your post seems to be based purely on emotion (no offense) and it would be helpful if you could provide a few links to verify this.

No! No emotions, FACTS!

Check these sites out for verification.

NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, MSNBC, CNN, most PBS stations and just about 10 or more stations that carried Bushs speech live wednesday night. Thats when he said it.

Didn't you watch Bushs nationaly televised speech wednesday night?

Bush did say the $200 BILLION would be paid for by cutting programs.

If it were NOT true there would have been Cons all over this thread!
Although they seem to rush to his aid right or wrong.

I guess all the MILLIONS of Cons receiving Gov programs are getting fed up with Bush too.

They were expecting a "Free" aid to help the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. We are going to have to get rid of something in order to give something. Simple checks and balances.

You seem kinda mixed up!

Why are you bashing ME for something that Bush said he was going to do? Bush said it NOT ME!

Maybe I can help you out!
Just what part of Bush saying he will cut programs to pay for Louisianas $200 BILLION rebuilding are you having trouble understanding?

Perhaps you should have watched and listened to what he said before posting. I'm shocked that you didn't watch his nationaly televised speech.

Go to "FOXNews.com", YES thats "FOXNews.com" and click on "Bush, no tax hikes to pay for relief." Then read the LAST sentence there.

Glad I was able to help you out.
Your friend, Taxpayer.

Simple checks and balances?
Then why didn't Bush say that he would ALSO "NOT" EXTEND his BIG tax break to the rich also to help pay for Lousianas rebuilding, spreading the load instead of once again putting the load all on Amercan citizens backs?

That seems like a BALANCE to me!

And just who are >>>"THEY"<<< that are expecting a "Free" aid to help the people affected by Hurricane Katrina?

Have you ever built a house on the beach. A rich person buys it this old house by the beach, destroys it, builds a bigger more expensive house. Then a hurricane comes along and destroys it. Then guess who has to pay for it! Everyone does! Is it your fault of their ignorance, nope. But you get the bill. This isn't a Bush thing, Clinton helped put back many of my state's (North Carolina) $400,000+ condominiums back in 1994? And the "They" I was speaking about were the people affected by Katrina. Is it their ignorance for choosing to live in a area under sea level, next a lake and a river? You tell me!

Yes, we can get rid of the tax cuts that are ripping off the poor to begin with. That is a splendid suggestion, burns. Thank you.

xxxxxxxxxx

I'm not saying that we should NOT help them. I am saying that Bush said that he will have to CUT PROGRAMS to pay for it!

I have a house on the water in New England but I have insurance to pay for my rebuilding if needed!

Do we say the same for all of us that live in the paths of hurricanes? That it is our ignorance for living there? That woud include most of the east coast states and from Florida to Texas too.
Then what about the states that are in the tornado areas? Or in earth quake zones?

Remember, it was Bushs CUTS that made it impossible to rebuild and make sure that all the pumps were working there. That was a FEDERAL PROGRAM just like many other federal programs around the country.

But anyway, I know what you mean, I sure wouldn't have built MY home there!

BTW: Why is it going to cost $200 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans? Didn't most business' and home owners have insurance?

Re: BUSH: You VETS, RETIRED, POOR and SICK people will have to pay for Katrinas damag

The Army Corps of Engineers' budget has been the target of repeated, substantial budget cuts, with recent, deep cuts made to help fund the administration's tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% of American taxpayers. (http://www.ctj.org/html/gwb0602.htm) This isn't to say that the Bush Administration are the only ones to blame for the extent of this disaster. The levee improvement projects in New Orleans have been in the works since LBJ was in office, I believe since 1965 to be precise, and because public works projects are often viewed as "pork", it is my understanding that the Corps has never received the amount of funding they've requested to complete the project.

Simply put, we cannot continue to borrow money at the rate that we do, which is approximately $1.66Billion per day. Right now, the United States, the "richest" country in the world, is in hawk to the tune of nearly EIGHT TRILLION dollars. (http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/) I have very little doubt though, that the "borrow and spend" policy of the administration and the Republican congress will continue until our debt exceeds the GNP. Americans are already feeling the pain of this policy in the form of a weakened dollar, causing many imported consumer goods to carry a much higher pricetag.

So what can be done to stop this? First, the administration needs to repeal its tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% of Americans. Seeing as the average income of the top 1% of income earners is about $1,169,000.00, I don't think they'll miss the $50-80k very much. I'm quite sure that most would see our continued prosperity as a nation, and the rebuilding of the devistated area as being worth what is such a miniscule expense to them.

I would also like to recommend that the United States worry about the United States a little more, and worry about the rest of the world a little less. While I wouldn't suggest ending foreign aid programs altogether is a good idea, there are some that can be suspended or reduced without tremendous impact such as the billions we give to Israel every year. I'm sure there are numerous other examples of cuts that can be made so that all of the sacrifices don't have to be made by the poor, working class, and elderly of our own country.

I will say right off that I don't think US forces should have been deployed to Iraq in the first place. That aside, however, pulling out of the newly forming nation completely would be a huge error. What needs to happen is that efforts to train Iraqi personel need to be stepped up to a much faster pace so that we can begin scaling back the number of troops we have there within a reasonably short timespan. If we opt to wait until there is total stability there, it is likely we will never leave. At some point, the whole thing needs to be the Iraqi's fight, and in my opinion, the sooner this occurs, the better. In addition to this, it would certainly be nice if, at some point, the Iraqi government started using some of its oil wealth to cover some of the costs we've incurred while fighting for their freedom.

Don't wonder what the troops and their families will have to say about this, ask them. I know I don't speak for the rest of my brother and sisters in uniform, but I would rather the government make cuts than raise taxes. You pretend to know exactly what cuts the President was talking about, when in fact you don't, nor do I.

Have any of you ever heard of Citizens Against Government Waste? They seem to have a plan.

http://www.cagw.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=9268&news_iv_ctrl=0

Here's Louisiana's pork report. http://www.cagw.org/site/FrameSet?style=User&url=http://publications.cagw.org/pigbook/pigbook.php3 Look how much money was allocated the Army Corps of Engineers. The federal money was there, and always has been, to study and re-enforce the levees. There needs to be an investigation into where this money was spent, and why it was not spent how it should of been. I can't find the link, but I read that the levees where only rated for a category three hurricane.

I've heard about the BIG tax breaks to the rich. But nobody can ever tell me what they are. What code or article of the tax code are you referring to?

Do you think we should repeal the child tax credit? That would save the country $500 for every child. I don't have any kids and I'm in favor of keeping the the child tax credit at $1000. What's wrong with Bush's plan to allow Americans to keep more of the money that they earn? Why would you want to increase taxes and take money out of the pockets of every American, wealthy or not. Wealth distribution leads to a socialist society. Just because the wealthy are wealthy they should not be penalized for that.

Will the poor voters ever vote Republican again? Look at the alternative this past election. It was a choice between Bush and Kerry. The Democrats need put up a candidate the American people can take serious, until then the swing vote will go to the Republicans.

You know I always hear you Liberals throw out youe stale old talking points about tax cuts for the rich..........You must know by now that the American people don't buy that crap but you still insist on doing it...Its one of the main reason you keep losing at the ballot box.......You want people to think that American voters are dumb and will believe any of the lies you tell them like African Americans do......It ain't happening..They know that 80% of all the taxes that are paid in this country are paid by 20% of the wealthiest people......

I myself am middle class and not rich by any stretch of the imaginationn but I got some great tax reductions from the tax cuts...........Isn't that strange?

I wonder how many of you whinners about tax cuts sent your cuts back?.....Never mind I know already.....NONE....

80% of the taxes being paid by the top 20% is more a reflection of the concentration of wealth in this country than an unfairness in the tax code. As a percentage of his income, Warren Buffet himself has said many times he pays no more to the government than his secretary does.

I think most people do actually understand that the vast majority of the dollar amount of the tax cuts went to the top. The polls reflected that. Even when Bush was pushing the tax cuts, the polls reflected that. It not as if he got some big boost in approval ratings after passing those tax cuts.

That’s not to say that I didn’t get a tax cut. The problem is that the government requires a certain amount of money to run. The cultural of greed so prevalent on right would just assume shift that responsibility to anyone but themselves. They want to live in America, enjoy all the benefits of living in the greatest nation in the history of civilization, but they don’t want to do their part, just like their parents and grandparents did, to invest in this great country.

The concept is referred to shared sacrifice, and thank God that previous generations understood that concept a lot better than some on the right do today.

The problem is the Government spends to much.........Nothing proves that more then the Transportation bill that was just passed where billions of dollars went to pork projects......Those need to ne eliminated.......

If the money was returned to the American people who it really belongs to the government would not have the money to spend on the pork projects...It is simple math.........

Tax cuts should not be eliminated.........There should be more......The government has no money....They are spending our money wastefully..that needs to stop........

So in other words you want money to help them YOU just don't want to have to pay for it or have something government provides to YOU to be used instead for victems, you want someone else to pay for it even if that someone else already foots the bill for most of government.

Why shouldn't ALL Americans pay for it instead of just the 1%?

Conservatives have been busy claiming that everybody got tax breaks. So if we rescind them, then everybody helps paying, right? Or were conservatives lying when they made that former claim?

Or, you could just vote out the congressman who bring home all the pork and corporate welfare. Tax cuts dont keep them from spending. All tax cuts do is insure that our kids get stuck with the bill.

Well, I happen to be a veteran of the Korean war and I do not love this President, in fact, I can't stand him. I have no use for lying deserters that pretend to be able to run a government.
