My wife just told me she heard Burt Reynolds died. few movie Roles matched his "Lewis" in Deliverance
 
Nor his taste for women. His humor, his respect for the audience. A man to celebrate for having made this world better.

Loved him and his movies! He was a great talent, and a very funny guy.
So sad to see his health deteriorate in recent years.

He was such a heart throb, and a tremendous athlete.
I remember when he was a regular guest on the Tonight show with Johnny Carson!




RIP Burt Reynolds!

Referring to his photo in Cosmopolitan: It wasn’t a big deal to me. I said, “I’ll do it, but I’ll have to have my hands…in front of me." And I have very small hands.

I loved his movies growing up, and still will watch them on occasion. Maybe not a great actor, but a great character. RIP

I read he had a heart attack. He was 82 years old. Burt was Hollywood's top-grossing star every year from 1978 through 1982.

I guess my favorite movie of his was Smokey and the Bandit.

RIP!

After Florida State's embarrassing game against Virginia Tech 3 days ago we shouldn't be surprised that Reynolds decided to leave the party.

It was fun for us to watch someone like Reynolds enjoy life and the good fortunes that came his way. Apparently he handled it well and wasn't one to take himself seriously. We seem to have fewer and fewer of those celebrities these days.

Goodbye, Burt, and thanks.
 
The man had a tremendous career from start to finish. I remember him on GUNSMOKE all the way through stuff like the excellent BOOGIE NIGHTS. A life well lived and a very generous man who shared the wealth.
 
I guess it falls to me to laud him for his Oscar nominated role in Boogie Nights.
I loved pretty much anything and everything he did but it was Boogie Nights that proved that ol' Gator still had some surprises up his sleeve.
 
Smokey and the Bandit, Cannonball Run and Stroker Ace all have very special places in my childhood memory. I miss that feeling those memories engender. The 21st century is highly overrated.
 
I love this tweet today by Patton Oswalt:

"Burt Reynolds & Clint Eastwood were fired from GUNSMOKE & RAWHIDE at the same time. Burt was told he couldn't act and Clint his neck was too skinny. In the parking lot, Burt said to Clint, "I dunno what you're gonna do, but I'm gonna take acting lessons."
 
One of his most memorable lines (for me anyway) was when he played himself in a guest role for a sitcom.

When one of the characters approached him and said, "Oh my God, you're Burt Reynolds!" he replied, "I hope so, otherwise I've got the wrong underwear on."
 
Not too long ago, I saw him as Quint Asper in an old Gunsmoke rerun - dang, he looked young! Lots of great TV and movies, it's hard to pick a favorite. I guess mine is a little offbeat from what most might choose...Best Little Whorehouse. Burt was an OK dramatic actor but I think comedy was his real forte. A musical comedy with a risque theme - hilarious.
 
Chatting about Mr. Reynolds with my wife, she reminded me he was inducted into the International Mustache Hall of Fame in 2015, his mustache much sexier than mine. I'm a bit jealous. I believe he'd have chuckled at the sentiment.

She also pointed out she couldn't remember him in a war movie role, but she did remember him saying something along the line of it "being a choice of respect, tried to avoid making his living on the backs of those who faced the real horrors." I recall him narrating war documentaries, but that is a bit different. And a couple of turns in the Universal Soldier sequels when he was hungry after his manager ripped him off. Small roles, that paid well. And fantasies.

As we discussed which of his movies we enjoyed, "The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," rose to the top of the surface. And everything he worked on with his pal, Jackie Gleason.
 
Reynolds told this story on himself. When Reynolds was filming once in Georgia he drove alone from his hotel to the location where they were filming. One morning he stopped at an old mom and pop gas station/country store. The old man who owned the place came out and Reynolds said he needed gas. The old guy said he'd fill it up for him.

Reynolds chewing on a toothpick leaned against the hood of the car and gazed across the old rural Georgia landscape. The old man finished filling up the car and looked at Reynolds and said, "'Scuse me for asking but I swear I know you. I'm not being rude but I can't remember where and I didn't want you to think I'm unfriendly. I'd say howdy but I just can't recall where I know you from."

Reynolds casually, as we might all imagine him doing said, "I don't think we've met but you've probably seen me at the movies."

The old guy said, "That's it, at the movies. Where do you usually sit?"
