China Firm to Buy Hummer - WSJ.com
In another body slam to American pride the Chinese Communists are buying Hummer from the once venerable GM. Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. is the company that is reported to be buying the Hummer brand.
Bad enough to lose Hummer to the Communists but which has s lineage to the military vehicle known as the Humvee.
Supposedly the Commnists will leave two US plants open but let's face how shamefull that Communists are buying Hummer.
I am officially disgusted !! Thank all of you who buy foreign car!! Way to go!!
F107, yes, those companies were smart to build SUVs. It made economic sense and reaped them huge profits. However, they did not have a contingency plan in case oil prices went up. They did, and they had no alternatives. Now they're slow in transforming their lineup to get better fuel efficiency.
Also, the UAW chokes American auto manufacturers. Bankruptcy may be the only way to get the leach off of the industry. The UAW is another hindrance to innovation and efficiency.
Hummers will have quality issues like all other Chinese products.I look forward to the new Wal-Mart Auto Sales branch.....
A blow to American pride?
That's funny. What is there to be proud about when it comes to the Hummer? It had incredibly poor gas mileage even after it's 3rd generation. To my knowledge it was bought mostly by city dwellers and were shown to be impractical for city life. It became even MORE impractical during the early 2000s when gas prices sky rocketed. And finally could barely fit in a normal street lane. What exatcly was there to be proud about?
I'm sure everyone here will agree that to be proud of something it has to actually have some redeeming quality about it to upset all it's faults. What kind of redeeming quality did the hummer have? It failed because it was pandering to that greedy American consumerism and it's creators completely failed to factor in the normal drops in the economy.
I mean if you were a weapons maker would you be proud of a gun line which is shown as impractical to the everyday consumer? I'm sure there's a ton of gun owners that want to buy tanks but really - what are you supposed to do with a tank when you need extensive military training to drive it and operate it's weapons correctly?
As far as I'm concerned the Chinese can have the Hummer line. Let them try to navigate a car that the average height Asian man will probably have trouble getting into.
Dont be ticked off at the folks buying cars. You should be ticked at the UAW, for bleeding these companies dry. Paying folks not to work?
Let me know when that turns a profit instead of a loss.
Also, the whole "your not a patriot, if your not buying American", is a little on the :rofl side.
I take it ALL your products that you buy are American then? Have you checked your clothes, electronics, food, etc to see where it is coming from?
The amount of money people spend on foreign cars pales in comparison to the money they spend on other foreign products.
I'm not phased by China getting Hummer, I'd be more worried about all the other products people are buying.
Nations like the United States and China don't turn on a dime, you have to look not at where they were but where the head of the snake in moving to. And over the past few decades China has been steadily moving toward capitalism, while U.S. - not so much.
At some point we'll have to stop calling them commies.
And at some point they may start using that name on us.
I love my Toyota.
Frankly I don't think Hummer is that big a prize. They had become glorified Sububans anyhow.
Isn't Hummers how our army travels around? The chinese are going to be making those?
Hummers will have quality issues like all other Chinese products.
In German crash test, China's Brilliance BS6 sedan fails miserably

So as I understand this, GM got rid of an unprofitable line, but without costing any jobs in the US. Sounds like a win win situation.
How dare those ****ing communist bastards offer an American car company more money than any company based in America or another non-communist country!
Shame on them for offering GM the best deal available, and shame on GM for operating like a business and selling their product to the highest bidder. What they should have done is turn down the financially optimal solution and made a crappy decision for the sake of political posturing.
Right?
I suppose were are supposed to embrace a free market system, but not extend it outside our borders, while simultaneously artifically increasing the value of labor domestically through unions. Smells like a recipe for economic success.....
