Brett Favre says Colin Kaepernick will be recognized a 'hero' like Pat Tillman

Brett Favre says Colin Kaepernick will be recognized a '''hero''' like Pat Tillman | Fox News

The Hall of Fame quarterback said Kaepernick will receive “hero status” because he was willing to sacrifice his NFL career to protest racial inequality and social injustice. Favre compared him to the late Pat Tillman – the former Arizona Cardinals safety who left his football career to join the Army after Sept. 11.

“I can only think of right off the top of my head, Pat Tillman is another guy that did something similar,” Favre told TMZ Sports. “And, we regard him as a hero. So, I’d assume that hero status will be stamped with Kaepernick as well.”

Tillman, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 by friendly fire, played four seasons in the league after being a seventh-round pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. He then decided to give up his NFL career to fight for the United States.

Video roundtable at link. (Interesting comments from the pundits.)

Do you agree with Favre? I do to an extent. In principle, Kap is comparable to Tillman, but Kap didn't risk his life. Other than that, I agree.

I guess some people would call both of them heroes but to me the only common thread they share is that they played in the NFL. Hell, some people think Tim Tebow was a hero for speaking up against abortion. I think some NFL players who speak out against animal abuse are heroes. All of them who take a stance become a hero to someone.

But the most staggering difference to me is that Tillman didn't go to Afghanistan out of protest or to draw attention to something. He went because he believed it was his patriotic duty to serve. The poor man was killed by friendly fire for doing what most Americans have never done and will never do. Does that make him a "hero" because he was killed. No. But like I said, he was a hero to many people, just like Kaepernick is.

Just out of curiosity, does Kaepernick parrot the Nike slogan, "Just do it??" Nike got that from a serial killer, Gilmore. So does the so-called hero Kap pull down millions mimicking a serial killer?? Of course, I don't think his victims were black. If they had been black, well, can you imagine?? Let's just say, Nike sneakers wouldn't exactly be in vogue. Thanks!!

Both Trayvon and Michael Brown were legitimate shootings. Kaep wanted everyoe to look at the BS propaganda that was spewed regarding both cases.

That's your claim about the legitimacy of the shootings. Many disagree with you, including me.

No clue. I'm sure Mr. Google can answer that for you.

He does all those things. He has a foundation. He devotes his time, his money and his name to the underserved communities. He has talked about it. He has met with families.

The kneeling thing only offended imbeciles like Trump. The kneeling thing was respectful.

Kaepernick won the debate ultimately.
The kneeling thing was a huge distraction from the other stuff he did. It was a mistake.

That's a crazy thing to say. One gave up a lucrative NFL career to fight for their country in the military, sacrificing his life in the process. The other was a mediocre NFL quarterback who created controversy for the sport, then quit, and whined about it.

Sorry I made you cry. Sorry I made you cy so much that your natural reaction was to repeat something that I already said and then say what I said was "crazy".

Who is sniffing Trump's panties while you're on here weeping?

The kneeling thing made so much news that even the United Stats President was melting down publicly about it.

It worked.

This is a discussion board. If you don't want to discuss, and would prefer to throw out personal attacks, please go to the appropriate forum. If we agree, why are you lashing out?

Let me clarify - although you didn't ask. It was a crazy thing for Farve to say.

Next time actually read my post before you pontificate and tell me my post was crazy.

You're not a moderator here. You don't get to tell me what forum I need to post in.

I didn't ask because I didn't care what your opinion on Favre's comments. My post was crystal clear to anyone who reads English.

Not until he gets killed by friendly fire.

Can we at least be honest about what Kaepernick 'sacrificed'. His last years he was 2-6 as a starter, got benched the first time after going 3 full quarters against the Bears with a box of 1 for 5 for 5 yards, and then got benched the following week because he missed coverage calls on wide open uncovered receivers. He wasnt a starter that sacrificed his career...he was a mid to low level backup that was let go, given 4 different signing opportunities, and crapped on each of them.

CK has made a decent living as a benched failing QB by being a victim. Why would he risk that by playing another down in the NFL?

No. If Kaepernick wanted to "protest racial inequality and social injustice" he should have come up with a better way to do it. The stupid kneeling thing brought zero attention to "racial inequality and social injustice". He may as well have been protesting for equal pay by cutting the tails off of cats.

Shows how little you paid attention, or you were just biased from the start.

You don't think a Black man in America realized the consequences of going against White America?
And yet, Michael Bennet had no problem attracting contracts. Marshawn Lynch. Eric Reid. Many others. The difference between them and Kaepernick...is that they all still had marketable talent.

Quite the opposite. It brought tons of attention to kneeling and almost zero attention to the purported purpose of the kneeling.

Again, I didn't say your post was crazy. I DID read and respond to the original post, regarding what Farve said, and said that HIS comment was 'a crazy thing to say'. I pointed this out in the post you just responded to.

I might suggest that you listen to your own advice, and read the post before responding. It's probably also a good idea to take a breath before going ballistic.

And, no, I'm not a moderator here. But if you want to jump to personal attacks like "Sorry I made you cry" or "Who is sniffing Trump's panties while you're on here weeping?" when someone tries to participate in a discussion, it's inappropriate on this forum.

His stats were fine. The team was terrible. He walked away from his contract, guaranteed money.

He won a settlement.

Colin Kaepernick wore socks to a recent practice that show cartoon policemen done up as “pigs.”

Photos from Aug. 10, 2016 show the NFL lightning rod wearing the black socks adorned with the anti-police caricatures. Kaepernick wore the socks again on Aug. 12. One photo from the Aug. 10 practice session in San Francisco, which was open to the public, captures him walking onto the field with a raised fist.

So what?

Man, I have better looking ankles...........

I don't think Kap realized the consequences of his actions at the time. A hero to me is someone who knowingly puts themselves in harms way for a greater good. I don't think this applies to Kap.

Hogwash. He sacrificed his career.

Talk about it? Donate money to causes? Write editorials? Spend time with victims families? There are countless ways to do something positive. The kneeling thing sent the wrong message. It was boneheaded - it brought all the attention onto that and no attention to the cause for which he was trying to raise awareness.

It brought a lot of attention to the cause. It was just the political right that ran around in circles with their hair on fire over kneeling during the anthem. Everyone else was talking about his cause.
