Boxer's Low Blow

It is totally ridiculous for the left to imply that Ms Rice can make decisions because she does not have any kids fighting in the war..................I guess that would have applied to FDR and Lincoln too.....

Outrageous.........And apology is in order but don't hold your breath.......

First I will assume you meant can't make decisions.

Please show me where in the transcript Boxer states that Rice cannot make decisions because she has no children fighting in the war. She never said Rice couldn't she stated that Rice is not directly effected by the war with the a lose of immediate family.

Boxer is stating that those who lose a member of their immediate family in the war are paying a bigger price then those who don't.

Can you imagine the outrage by the left if the roles had been reversed and it was a Conservative Senator questioning a Liberal Sec of State.......

The hyprocisy and double standard by the left is unbelieveable......
You are crying hypocrisy for a scenario that has never happened but you imagine might? What other scenarios are you imagining? The radio talking directly to you perhaps or that voice behind you to urging you to kill?

I heard about this on the B[ill] ORE[eilly] ME show. I missed it when I read the actual news.

I'm constantly amazed, but mostly amused, at how remarks are misconstrued in order to paint a situation as something it really wasn't. it's exactly like all the other shrieking about what other people have said. never mind what anyone does, let's talk about what they say. um, not what they actually said. let's shriek about what it seems like they've said.

Let's be honest. We're in a pointless war being waged by a clueless commander in chief. so whom do certain parties rail about? those who talk about it.

it's unbelievable.

Condoleezza Rice is always so smug when she attends these hearings. No wonder she's not married.

I wonder why conservatives always refer to democrats and liberals as "Leftists".
Probably for the same reason they refer to Middle-easterners as "Islamists" (when they aren't referring to them as "Terrorists", that is).
The 'ist' implies that our political leanings are in fact our full-time occupations; that they define us entirely.
The 'ist' implies single-minded fanaticism; it also has inherently negative linguistic connotations ("Rapist", anyone...?).

I don't particularly mind being called a "Leftist"; it's sort of flattering, actually, this implication that the more liberal-minded members of the forum are in fact members of an organized band of dangerous political subversives, rather than an ill-assorted collection of students, bored housewives, civil servants, and semi-skilled blue-collar workers piddling around on an internet forum.

But I do wonder how the more conservative-minded forum members would take to being called "Rightists", rather than Republicans or conservatives.
"Rightist" has a very different resonance, wouldn't you agree?

I like it, actually.
From now on, everyone who doesn't agree with me is a "Rightist" (or, if I feel like being condescending, a "Rightie").
So, like, the way Turtledude just called APS a "Leftist Female"? ... from now on, Turtledude is a "Rightist Male".
And all those whiny antichoicers in the abortion section are "Rightist Females".

Yeeeeah... I like this a lot!

a silly rant that deliberately ignores the common sense shorthand terms used around here. The proper term for the american left depends on what sort of left you are dealing with

for example we have the hedonistic libertines that are represented by Larry Flynt and ACT UP

we have the anticorporate-anti wise use luddites represented by PETA, Earth First and other radical anti-progress types including the remnants of the anarcho-syndicalists

we have the pillowheaded peaceniks led by whackos like Sheehan and encompassing much of the anti gun movement

we have the entitlement addicts -many of the unions and the trial lawyers can be placed in this group

and we have the reactionary statist parasites-the rank and file of the far left

Probably for the same reason liberals always refer to conservatives and Republicans as right wing.

do you recall the same type of condescension towards Reno after Waco?

I don't.

back when B A T F stood for Burn All Toddlers First?

nope

Stay back, you... you Rightist!
This thread is overrun by Rightist Males. I feel distinctly menaced.

nope

Can you imagine the outrage

Gingrich: "Ms. Reno how could you possibly have been sensitive to the decision to attack the compound since you have no children"

That was her whole point, go watch it.

I have watched it many times and that was not her point. You made that her point by your translation.

You translated Boxer commenting that Rice is not directly effected by this war in regards to her immediate family, to Boxer saying Rice can't make decisions because she has no children.

It was preceisly her point and her attempt to denigrate a Secretary of State during a time of war , when they were suppose to be discussing that war is reprehensible.

You translated Boxer commenting that Rice is not directly effected by this war in regards to her immediate family, to Boxer saying Rice can't make decisions because she has no children.
Yeah, she was, other than that what was her point in pointing out Rice has no children. If what you are saying is true it had no bearing on the hearings and was pure condescension to her judgement. Had nothing to do with the new plan.

Again should we not allow any congressmen or women who do not have children in the war vote on it, should their judgments be suspect? Else what is the point?

And to say her tone and her finger pointing and interrupting the Secretary's statement was not degrading and condescending is laughable.

Again if Gingrich had spoken in a similar manner to Reno over Waco the Dems would have demanded his resignation.

Probably for the same reason liberals always refer to conservatives and Republicans as right wing.

Ah....but see there Stinger you are wrong. There is a HUGE difference between Conservative Republicans and Right-wing radicals. HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Conservative Republicans believe in smaller government. They are against government controls and believe in the free market.
Right-wing radicals pushed aside the Conservative idealogy to promote a big-government social conservative agenda. To the right-wing....fiscal/economic issues are unimportant as long as they can pursue an activist agenda pusshing governmental involvement in a whole litany of "moral" issues.

I do think that the Republican Party has become synonomous in the last 12-15 years with the radical right-wing because they hijacked the party and left true conservatives without a party.
With the latest rejection of the right-wing/neo-cons....I think it does give some hope to the true conservatives in the party though to regain control.

Did you watch ORielly last night. Two Democrat Party strategist were on and BOTH without reservation, and without hesitation confirmed what I have been saying all along and that it was wrong and Boxer was hurting the party with her nonsense.

Enough said.

You think I am going to change my mind simply because two democrats think something?

I said it was wrong of her to say what she said and that it was adding nothing to the argument in almost every post I have made on here. What I have been saying is that Boxer DID NOT say Rice is incapable of making decisions specifically because she has no children.

Any person with common sense has to take whatever is said on Fox News with a grain of salt.

Boxer knew exactly what she was saying as do other outspoken Demos like Teddy (Hick-up) Kennedy, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi etc....they don't care.

She is an insulting, classless, pathetic shell of a woman whose malicious digs and hatred were plainly obvious for all to see.

Like I heard someone say........Hey Barbara can doctors treat cancer patients if they haven't had cancer? Ya cant interview rape victims if ya havent been raped....How can she herself vote on issues in her state if she personally has not been affected by them?

How could she as an elected official from her state even have an opinion on the war........shes never been, she never served. She makes Democrats look bad. Someone from the party should tell her to shut up, especially Hillary who has a lot at stake. I wonder if ole Hillary will tell Boxer to put a lid on it..........Hillary brother was at one time of course married to Boxers daughter. REVENGE???? :rofl

And someone should remind her that Clinton never even served in the military and look what he did.

"I am writing too in the hope that my telling this one story will help you to understand more clearly how so many fine people have come to find themselves still loving their country but loathing the military,'

Bill Clintons Draft Letter

frontline: the clinton years: bill clinton's draft letter | PBS

Hey Barbara,,,,,,,,he hated the military !!!! And our country still voted him to be Commander and Chief over them.

Trivia question. Who said this?

"Dr. Rice, who I think would be a really good candidate [for President], is not interested. Probably because she is single, her parents are no longer living, she's an only child. You need a very supportive family and supportive friends to have this job."

Jeeeeez! Talk about insensitive!! In the words of Dr. Rice, "I thought it was OK to be single."

I'm surprised that reaganburch thanked doughgirl for this post. Frankly, all I see is an incredibly angry poster who can't seem to constructively attack Barbara Boxer.

Taking a good read of her post now, it does have a bit more bile that I prefer... however, she makes some good points under the anger...
if she could strip away the anger & bile out of the post... then there are some good points.

I do believe that Boxer is a demogogue who can't make a point without anger herself towards Secretary Rice. I don't know if it's towards the Bush administration, Secretary Rice or republicans in general, but it seems like whenever I see her on the news, Senator Boxer's angry button has been pushed...

I think the statement from Boxer was a low blow and actually a completely worthless point...

Really? I disagree.
Read it again; try "stripping away the anger and bile".
There's nothing left.
This is fairly typical of Doughgirl.

I could see why someone would be bothered by Boxer's statement. I am NOT a fan of Condoleezza Rice, and I was rather disgusted at her (Rice's) behavior during her Senate confirmation hearing. Boxer had a poster board that had all of Rice's quotes about mushroom clouds and nuclear weapon threats coming from Iraq and Rice went nuts. She was angry that her own words were being brought up. She had spouted them passionately all over the news and when read back to her, she felt it was a low blow on Boxer's part. Excuse me? That goes towards your credibility, lady, and whether you are fit to serve as our Secretary of State.

Anyway, clearly there is some tension between those two women. I, of course ;), am a fan of Boxer's, but as I stated above, I could see how some people could perceive her comments as being inappropriate. If one finds them inappropriate, I would like to know how that person feels about Laura Bush's comment about Rice being president (and needing a family in order to perform such duty).
