Boxer's Low Blow

Well, she could've just been plain and said that no one would wanna touch Rice with their neighbor's dick and that's why she's childless. Still, both parts are true.

LOL! So true.

I love Barbara Boxer, and I loved that she said that to Rice. Rock on, Barbara!

Oh, and for anyone who thinks that adding more troops is a surge, think again. It's a damn augmentation!

To make such a huge deal out of something so trivial is absurd. I know that the partisan sniping back and forth is at an all-time high and both sides look for anything that they can sink their teeth into, but aren't there far more pressing issues than someone who made a comment that could be interpreted in an impolite way? Boxer was merely referring to the American citizens who have families that are overseas. I will go a step further than Boxer and say that very few politicians have a personal stake in the war as far as their immediate family goes.

Can you imagine the outrage by the left if the roles had been reversed and it was a Conservative Senator questioning a Liberal Sec of State.......

The hyprocisy and double standard by the left is unbelieveable......

Everyone loves to victimize themselves. The fact is that this constant partisan sniping back and forth has gotten way out of hand on both sides.

Since your scenario is hypothetical the existence of hypocrisy and unbelievability is nothing more then your assumption or perhaps wishful thinking.

You normally call such things classless.

No this was beyond the pale.

Here is the actually news report and video

FOXNews.com - White House Spokesman Blasts Sen. Boxer's Exchange With Secretary Rice - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum

Boxer behaved like an *** trying to dismiss the Secretary of State.

I'm not saying that it wasn't wrong of Boxer to make the comments that she did. I'm saying that you are making a far bigger deal out of it than it warrants. You are acting as if she did much worse than just make a general statement about the fact that Rice has no immediate family and therefore doesn't have as much of a stake in the war. It's hypocritical to call foul on something so trivial when there has been sniping back and forth like this on both sides of this issue for a very long time.

Look at the quote again. She says "I know you feel terrible about it."

But not enough that she has any credibility in the matter?

Doesn't that mean she acknowledged that Rice pays an emotional price?

When she turns around and then demeans it. What was her point in the first place?

Boxer's point was that it's one thing to feel generally bad about the situation, it's another to have family members directly affected.

So? What's the "thing"?

It's not that only people with family members there should have a say, but perhaps Rice's stance would be different if she actually had a child over there.

I don't think Ms. Boxer is in a position to make that judgement about the Secretary, it was an attempt to dismiss and disqualify her judgements in the matter.

Some might say that it's better that the people making the decision about war are better off being emotionally detached from those decision, but it's not "outrageous" to say that those decision might be different depending on if you have children there or not.

It's an insult to those who choose not to have children or can't have children. Can we expect Ms. Boxer, in the future, to insure that anyone serving as SoS or SoD or President or in an capacity that helps determine when we go to war, they will have children? If not, then why was she grilling the Secretary of State over it?

Boxer even admits that she herself doesn't have children or grandchildren there so she can't know what it feels like to actually have one of them go there.

So did she volunteer to shut up about the war then?

Stinger, I understand that you need to root for your team at every chance and you'll grasp at any straw to slam Democrats,

Sorry but when they throw them in your face..............

But I do understand how you must feel having to defend such people as Boxer and their comments. I'd find it problematic too.

but your focus and trivial points

What makes you think it is trivial?

I'm not saying that it wasn't wrong of Boxer to make the comments that she did. I'm saying that you are making a far bigger deal out of it than it warrants.

This is on top of the Dems and the left making their comments about the Bush twins not serving just the last couple of weeks I remind you. This is just a continuation.

Rice deserves much more respectful treatement by these holier than thou Democrats on these committee's. I would put her judgment and accomplishments up against Boxer any day of the week.

You are acting as if she did much worse

No. You here trying to defend it, even making the pornographic insults about it are making it worse.

than just make a general statement about the fact that Rice has no immediate family and therefore doesn't have as much of a stake in the war.

Every life that is lost there is her stake.

You just went down in the polls with that one. How you could agree with such a sexist insult to a fine upstanding woman, someone every young girl in America should look up to is just amazing to me.

I guess you agreed with the comments that she was just the house slave too?

Why exactly does Rice deserve respect? Is it because she has an important job? Do you feel that Bush deserves respect as well? He is an elected official and therefore a servant to the taxpaying public. Why do we have to treat these people like royalty all of a sudden. If these people screw up are they somehow above criticism?

What are you referring to about pornographic insults?

Do you feel that Rice has as much of a stake or moreso than the immediate family of a soldier who dies over there? In theory she does have a personal stake, but I'm willing to bet that it won't affect nearly as much as it does the immediate family of the soldier.

Condoleezza Rice is always so smug when she attends these hearings. No wonder she's not married.

Why do you insist on feigning disgust for such a trivial issue?

You don't believe that, aps. We all know you well enough to know that you think much higher of your gender than that classless remark. It isn't like you to incite and flame like this.

Why exactly does Rice deserve respect?

She is the Secretary of State, testifying in her official capacity before a congressional committee. That is the LEAST Boxer could have offered here. Instead she delievered her attempt to discredit her because she has no children. Well lots of people don't have children for lots of reasons.

"Well, she could've just been plain and said that no one would wanna touch Rice with their neighbor's **** and that's why she's childless. Still, both parts are true."

Do you feel that Rice has as much of a stake or moreso than the immediate family of a soldier who dies over there?

What difference does it make. Do you have children over there, if not does that make your opinion any less valid?

In theory she does have a personal stake, but I'm willing to bet that it won't affect nearly as much as it does the immediate family of the soldier.

Having to make those decisions gives you a very personal stake. You've never read much military history have you? But what effect are you looking for? Do you believe the leaders of the country should put their own personal interest ahead of what is important for our national interest? Is that how you make those decisions. What if it IS vital we send our military into harms way but the person making that decision is paralyzed by the fear that their own child would have to go and perhaps be killed. Is THAT how you want those decisions reached?

I'm sorry, but I am a human being, and I have petty thoughts about things. This is one of them.

I have no respect for a woman who touted the whole "mushroom cloud" thing and then essentially got into a fight with Barbara Boxer when she (Boxer) quoted her "mushroom cloud" comments back to her at Rice's confirmation hearing. I see Rice as a rubber stamp to this president, and I don't respect that. I also mean it when I say that I don't like the way she speaks to Senators at these hearings. She is defensive and condescending. Yes, she is Secretary of State, but NO ONE needs to be condescending--no one with any class and genuine intelligence.

So, no, I don't think well of her....at all.

I do appreciate the indirect compliment, though. Seriously. :2wave:

It's political sniping. It's been going on for a long time. Get used to it.

What difference does it make. Do you have children over there, if not does that make your opinion any less valid?

It has nothing to do with validating an opinion. It does have to do with how much of a stake you have in the war, though.

Again, I acknowledge that her comments were ill advised. However, I think you are making a gigantic deal out of a trivial issue. This is just more of the typical grasping at straws political sniping. The sensationalist biased news gives you persmission to be outraged by something so trivial, so you do so. I'm not saying that both sides aren't guilty of it. I just think it's hypocritical of one side to call foul on the other side for doing the same thing, which is exactly what you are doing here. I can do it too. By the way, I'm extremely offended that you assume that I haven't read a lot of military history.

Boxer's comments were as condescending as anone could possibly be. Except that Boxer's remark wasn't just an insult to Rice. It was an insult to women and womankind. You of all people should be outraged, but I can see your hate for all things Republican runs very deep. To say Rice deserved that kind of low blow because you think she can be smug at times is unbelieveable - incredibly petty.

First of all, I don't care when anyone makes remarks that could be perceived as sexist against women. That is not something that remotely bothers me, and I believe it's because i am genuinely comfortable and confident in being a woman. So even if Boxer's statement was an insult to women, I wouldn't care.

I never said she deserved it, as I don't see that Boxer's statements were mean--they were matter of fact. It's very easy for Bush and company to want to send more troops when they have no personal stake. This is true. I wonder how many members of Congress would have voted to support this war if they had children who could be sent. It's very easy to send other people's children to Iraq. That was Boxer's point, and it's a valid point.

Insult me all you want, CurrentAffairs. If I thought more highly of you, I would care....but I don't.

Your comments are are well taken. I have no idea why you think you're being insulted or why you choose to go there.

It's political sniping. It's been going on for a long time. Get used to it.

After 40 years the Dems still amaze me with their personal attacks used to deflect the real issues.

It has nothing to do with validating an opinion.

That is exactly what it was, that was her whole point.

It does have to do with how much of a stake you have in the war, though.

By which Boxer was saying her opinion should be judged.

Again, I acknowledge that her comments were ill advised.

Oh they were more than that.

However, I think you are making a gigantic deal out of a trivial issue.

It is just more of the same and discloses just how low the Dems will go because they have nothing to offer.

This is just more of the typical grasping at straws political sniping.

BOXER was engaged in the policital sniping. What happen to the new tone on capital hill?

The sensationalist biased news gives you persmission to be outraged by something so trivial, so you do so.

:rofl and see, when you can't defend it you engage in the same. How typical.

I never said she deserved it, as I don't see that Boxer's statements were mean--they were matter of fact.

They were condescending and meant to discredit her position. So from now on anyone woman wanting to serve in the high government offices better stay home and have some children first else be subject to condescension. So much for the single career woman.

It's very easy for Bush and company to want to send more troops when they have no personal stake.

No it's not and that is a totally baseless assertion.
This is true. I wonder how many members of Congress would have voted to support this war if they had children who could be sent. It's very easy to send other people's children to Iraq.

No it's not, it is one of the most difficult decisions a leader can make.

That was Boxer's point, and it's a valid point.

What point, single career women need not apply to be Secretary of State?

If I thought more highly of you, I would care....but I don't.

We thought more highly of you until you agreed with the obscene slander that was levied here.

It is totally ridiculous for the left to imply that Ms Rice can make decisions because she does not have any kids fighting in the war..................I guess that would have applied to FDR and Lincoln too.....

Outrageous.........And apology is in order but don't hold your breath.......
