I’m shocked, shocked to learn that a public official prevaricated. Not that I can blame Conn. pol Richard Blumenthal for avoiding military slavery during the US aggression on Vietnam. But I certainly do blame him for endless Pentagon idolatry and Invade the Middle East warmongering since. Dick, let’s send you first.
Blumenthal has also told endless fibs about returning Vietnam vets (himself included) being subjected to verbal abuse and even spitting. I was there, and it did not happen. True, soldiers then were not as lionized as today’s, in part because they did not lionize themselves. None of that “best and brightest” stuff. But the notion that young men in top physical shape, trained to kill and often subjected to the vast injustice of the draft, would allow some hippie to spit on them is laughable. Any spitter or verbal abuser would have been handed his head. Blumenthal told this lie, as do Hannity and other chickenhawks, to demonize anyone who opposes current and planned federal foreign massacres.
What a loser this guy is....I just love to watch all these demo's in congress defend him though, when we know if he had an R after his name the attacks would be fast and furious.

Apparently, a clip of his entire speech, just posted, shows that while he did say once that he served "in Vietnam", earlier in the exact same speech he had said he "served in the military, during the Vietnam era."
This kind of leads me to think that maybe it was a slip up, albeit a pretty bad one.
Here's the clip, watch it and see what you think:
YouTube- Blumenthal Exaggerates Vietnam Record (Full Version)
The problem is he has been reported as an actual Vietnam vet, in ways he had to be aware of, and never chose to correct that reporting.
time to listen to the whole video
The Day - Video mitigates Blumenthal remarks | News from southeastern Connecticut
you aren't actually making excuses for this dirtbag are you?
dirtbag you say
this marine veteran
this individual who is an advocate for assistance to our returning soldiers
that was the advocacy he expressed within that video
and yes, he began his remarks by distinguishing between his reservist duty and that he did not serve in vietnam
careless? absolutely. dirtbag ... i would reserve that expression for those who take potshot against American veterans

Some of us veterans also reserve it for those that lie about their service. In this case, the shoe fits.
don't recall such an outpouring of such emotion when it was found the shrub was AWOL
that's right, because he was a republican such misfeasance deserved to be overlooked
Being AWOL even if he actually was, is a little bit different than claiming you were a warfighter in vietnam...
Again, not suprised you don't get this.... Perhaps you should go talk so some of us who did what your boy claimed to have done, but didn't.
why would i need to do that, rev?
What pisses me off about this is that because he has no ability to be honest, it's those of us in the democratic party who will suffer. When I hear about corrupt republicans, it does not bother me much. Corrupt democrats piss me off no end, and it's because they are not just corrupt(or in this case a lier), but because they hurt me and the rest of the democrats.

WTF are you talking about? If you can show where Bush lied about being in a war, then that's something comparable. Otherwise, this is just you demonstrating your new size 9 partisan blinders.
Perhaps so you would stop embarrassing yourself with your hypocritical views on this veteran who lied about serving in combat and talking like you have a CLUE as to how disgraceful this x-marine reservist is.
you speak as tho you presume everyone who actively served must boast of it
i assure you, that is not the case
i do not need to speak with you or those like you to appreciate what true service to one's country is about
and i reserve the expression 'dirtbag' for those who demean those who have served their country
you must have been asleep when that contovesry raged
I still don't know what this has to do with Blumenthal lying about serving in Vietnam. If you're going to defend your guy's lies, at least be honest about it and stop trying to change the subject.
