Blagojevich Wants Campaign Funds to Pay Lawyer

I'm sure that he is corrupt, and a jerk and a bastard, and a whole string of expletives, but that doesn't mean a hill of beans if he isn't convicted of anything. And since he hasn't been convicted, as has been demonstrated, he has a duty to appoint a senator regardless of what Harry Reid says. He also has a duty to perform his administrative duties. And he has a right to defend himself in open court on charges that may be brought against him for political purposes and pay for that defense with campaign funds.

I can see your point. The funds are donated for political purposes, and the charges are brought about for political reasons, so it follows that they can be used for such. I don't think a single dime of tax-payer money should be used for his defense, and if any amount of his campaign funds come form public monies, they should be excluded from this purpose.

That being said, there is a certain degree of correctnes that those who decided to donate to the corrupt asshole should pay for his defense.

Blagojevich impeachment vote expires in a few days.

A new Illinois legislature is sworn in in a few days. If the Illinois Senate does not vote on Impeachment in a few days, the Illinois House will have to vote for Impeachment again, after the new term begins.

Unfortunately, it IS legal. Norm Coleman in Minnesota also used campaign funds to pay for a lawyer to defend him in his upcoming indictment. There should be a law!!

Agree.
But there will never be a law against these crimes until we have real reform.
We need a lot more decent people in politics, not the crooks we now have....
Its a vicious circle..:spin:
