Do you believe this?

Slain Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden urged his children to go live peacefully in the West and get a university education, his brother-in-law said in an interview published Sunday.
Zakaria al-Sadah, the brother of bin Laden's Yemeni fifth wife Amal, told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper that the Saudi-born extremist believed his children "should not follow him down the road to jihad."
"He told his own children and grandchildren, 'Go to Europe and America and get a good education,'" al-Sadah told the Sunday Times.
Al-Sadah said bin Laden told them: "You have to study, live in peace and don't do what I am doing or what I have done."

He has a number of children that are Westernized and didn't live the extremist lifestyle that he did. I don't know if this is absolutely true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were.

Wouldn't surprise me either.........

ladin was a radical islamist but not a stupid man.......

just goes to show what a ****ing hypocrite Bin Laden was.

he ordered his followers to give up their own lives for Jihad against the Infidel, but asks his own children to go live in the West, live in peace with its people, and he happy, healthy, and productive citizens.

figures.

To compare, Mohammed Farrah Aidid was targeted by the United States for elimination. That didn't stop his children from living and studying in the West, and it didn't stop one of his sons from becoming a United States Marine.

But to be fair all that happened before he was targeted for elimination.

I totally believe that! Because I know that in their hearts of hearts all Islamic religious fanatics know life is better in the West.

certainly...............

That's true, but he was a thorn in the side of US foreign policymakers before then. In any case, I think most of his family who had been Westernized remained so even after he became our Moby Dick in Somalia.

What a shame he tried to destroy the very thing he thought would provide the best for his kids. It's good he failed in his goal.

Indeed!
It is a good thing he failed!

Bin Laden's will stipulates that his wives must not remarry and that his children should not join al-Qaida.

Very true. Good post.

I believe it's possible he said it. I'm sure his own life had been fraught with pain and hardship... well deserved, btw... but he chose it. It just angers me that he wants the very countries he spent his life trying to destroy to take in and educate his children. Frankly, the gall of that pisses me off.

Well, in true Murican fashion, we'll allow them into the country, let them go to school, and then make a reality series out of it.:ind:

If true, the contrast between how Bin Laden acted and the rhetoric he advocated for his family/personal friendships would be something worth writing a few books about at the very least.

If true, it does make him a hypocrite in my eyes.

In what sense? The opposition he had to the West doesn't have to be necessarily against the people or our institutions. They could be, as any military/wartime figure could say, against the political and military entities of our societies. Bin Laden is a man educated at a Saudi school who was revolutionary because it had many Western professors. Obviously this still conflicts his claims of how the West was "corrupt" and "evil" but it's important to keep in mind that is all in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian issue and our role in Middle Eastern issues.

Whatever it is, Bin Laden was still a father. Speaking from personal experience, one always wants different for their children.

while it is true he did not destroy us, he certainly instigated many ills that continue to our nation's detriment
