Bill Encourages Schools To Teach About Racial Significance Of Obama’s Presidency

I like much of that. Of course when I read the sentence, "With racially motivated and hate-based crime on the increase in the country," I cringed. Some of that is the remaining positivist historian in me, but I thought that line was a tad inappropriate and even counter-productive.

Yeah the organizations pro civil rights message can get a tad extreme, but they are passionate about their work.

I went on the trip and met some of the famous figures of the civil rights movement, including the family of Vernon Dahmer.

As a student, a parent, teacher, or other interested party?

I am sure the trip remains among your best memories thus far in your life. I've only had a few of that caliber (saw up close Terrence Roberts-didn't distract the man afterward, the other was Ted Sorensen-who I had encountered a few times in a day), but I've treasured them.

LOL, and that quickly it all becomes clear.

I feel the same way anytime something in the South happens and an AP byline follows.

Actually, I don't, even though I think the South deserves a rougher tar and feathering than it has thus far received by post-Unionist sentiment.

My gentle sarcasm, of course ;)

I took part as a student. It was one of the greatest trips of my life. I got to meet congressman John Lewis, two members of the little rock 9, the late reverend Fred shuttlesworth before he died, and the widow of medger Evers.

So what...some guy named 'Bill' (who does not even give his last name) wants schools to teach something or other?

I need a last name before I will give this matter more thought. ;)

Did you do the decent thing and be a selfish little snot with photographic evidence? I'd hope so. We must all have something to brag about. ;)

Sounds more like they are trying to turn obama into a God. Because it sound more to me like they be teaching other black presidents could not be elected because they be held down.

Look 60 years ago i was not alive.

total indoctrination BS....

The jerk who introduced this bill was Chris Holden, (liberal-D) who also happens to be black. Just your typical California corrupt Democrat politician who's never had a real job in the private sector.

I've personally know Chris Holden for over sixteen years now and the guy doesn't have a pair, he's not his own man and does what he's told by the loony left. He has voted for every loony leftist gun control bill that has been introduced even the ones Governor Moonbeam (Jerry Brown) (loon-D) thought were so outrageous that he vetoed them.

California has some of the worst schools in the country and the California legislature wants to make Obama all about race ?

You would think most black Americans would be embarrassed with the incompetencies of Barack Obama ???

Correction, according to liberal Democrats and the Clinton administration, Bill Clinton was America's first black President. Obama will just go down in factual history as being the worst black President.

And, no surprise, the above is pure nonsense.

Saxaphone vs. Harvard Law Review.

I go with the somewhat embarrassing instrument display over that intellectual elitism!

To be fair it was a significant election in that it did elect America's first other than white President. Though imo it doesn't need a whole chapter dedicated to it. They already talked about how blacks were treated, including the intimidation and violence that occured towards them when it came to voting and running for office when I was in middle school.

I'm not picking on you - I'm just focusing on your statement because you worded it very clearly.

why do people see his presidency as being less significant than it is? It ranks right up there with emancipation, in my view. It is one of the most significant moments in our entire nation's history, to me. It's on par with our formative years and other significant moments in our past such as the civil war. So yes - an entire chapter.

Personally know? How? Are you golfing buddies or something? I can understand you may have followed this guy's politics, but I doubt you personally know **** about him.

So, you are claiming that Bill Clinton was the first BLACK President? How low do you think that your credibility has now sunk?

The word "trope" seems to not hit hard enough.

I have a stake in the city of Pasadena. I have personally dealt with Holden more than a dozen of times. We even pissed in the same urinal while talking politics. Good old fashion politics while taking a leak.

He (Chris) entered local politics on his father's coat tails. Anyone who has followed politics in L.A. during the 60's, 70's and 80's knows who Nate Holden is. It was Nate Holden who waged a war against Mattel Toys and toy guns.

If it weren't for absentee ballots, Chris Holden wouldn't be sitting in the state assembly today. But the same could be said with many liberal Democrats in California.

LOL, and that quickly it all becomes clear.

Alas, as someone who grew up in California, and who has miraculously averted the oblivious blindness that most of my fellow Californians have regarding the antics of our State government; I have to admit that when I saw that, it made perfect sense. This is the sort of idiocy that can only ever think of happening in very few places in America, and California is one of these places.

The bill says the election was a “historic step in the effort towards equality in the United States” and that previous elections in the nation involved intimidation and physical violence that prevented millions of African-Americans from voting. It also commends Obama for his work as a community organizer who registered voters after he graduated from Harvard Law School.

PROPAGANDA here! come get your indoctrination here ye here ye.

My kids are grown But I assure you if they were not I would not send my child to a public school in the USSA!

Really good chance if i were younger I would move.

That is really not very good. But he was exceptional. It is unusual for someone to get the top job with so little experience under the belt.

According to Toni Morrison, you mean. And you gotta admit, the guy's got soul. Hell, he ripped the sax on Arsenio Hall. Could you imagine Mitt Romney on Arsenio? He'd probably keep asking if anyone had stolen his car.

Seems accurate to me . I'm not seeing the issue here.

I never saw such BS in my life! please link some articles I am not talking 60 year old bullcrap. modern times please tell me which black presidents ran where black folks where violently held back from voting for them.
Oh, you expect History classes to deal in strictly current events? Perhaps this is the root of your confusion.

Actually the election of Obama is historic as he is the first black to be elected president. But what I think says more about us as a nation is that his policies and views are heatedly debated and not the color of his skin. But he is far from being the first black to run for the presidency. I can remember several blacks who have attempted to gain nomination to include Chisholm, Jordon back in the 60’s, 70’s and then Jessie Jackson, Wilder, Keyes, Cain, Braun, Sharpton and I am sure there have been others as I am sure there has been some who actually won a third party nomination.

Obama is the first black to win a major party nomination and then go on to win the presidency. But his road was paved by others way before him. I have no problem pointing out the significance of his election, but those who tried to win the nominations before him should also be pointed out.

`
While there is historic significance behind the first black US president ever elected, his record indicates that his ideology puts him in lock-step with his corporate contributors. To that extent, he is no different than any other criminal politician, black, white, asian or whatever.

 Personally I don't rank it so high because I really don't care about his (or anyones) skin color. As such I really don't see what the hubbub is about. I do understand it's significant from a historical pov. I just don't think its THAT significant. I figured that it was going to happen eventually anyways even before Clinton was in office. I'm also 100% sure that a woman will also be elected as President eventually also. I guess I just don't get excited about things that are predictable.
