Local gun shop said that the day after Biden made his statement about women double barrel shotguns several little old ladies actually showed and bought 12 gauge double barrel shotguns and ammo without asking a single question. It was simply a democrat told them this was best. Unreal!

Well, truth be told, for someone who has little or no experience with guns, I would agree that a shotgun would make the best weapon for in-home defense. It's pretty hard to miss. And nobody nobody is going to argue with a shotgun pointed at them.

I can just picture a little old lady: "Get the **** out of my house or I'll splatter your organs all over the wall behindja'."

This post is just so ... ugh. For one, have you studied their causal relationship? Do you KNOW that is why they're buying them or could it be a coincidence? Your anecdotal evidence is also weak and means nothing. What is "several little old ladies?" He sold 3 or 4 extra shotguns? Well people are also getting their tax returns back. Finally, why do you say they bought one because "it was simply a democrat told them this was best." How do you KNOW that was their motivation?

After firing the two, Biden recommended, warning blasts then they are simply useful as clubs. These old ladies need to learn to carry extra shells in their robe pockets and become very adept at reloading quickly. ;)

Nah. If they don't book after ya' **** it? Fire the damned thing.

Joe Biden delivers a double-barrel worth of stupid every time he opens his mouth.

The can't miss with a shotgun is a myth. Shooting a shotgun up close, 25 feet or less, is just like shooting a rifle. Sure there are more projectiles but they are in about a 1 inch group, not much spread at that distance. Don't believe it? Take your trusty double barrel out to the range, back off 25 feet and shoot a paper target with some 00 buckshot. Then shoot with number 6 hunting loads. It is pretty much a single hole. The street sweeper thing is pretty much a myth.

Because they said so. Go ten years with no 12 gauge double barrel sales to little old ladies. Joe, the schmoe, Biden makes his announcement, you want protection? Buy a double shotgun. Then the next day several, more than 3, little old ladies show up asking for a 12 gauge double barrel shotguns. It really doesn't take long for a barely intelligent person to come to some kind of conclusion. Of course some don't even make the barely level.

You still have to show causation. People are getting tax returns, too. Maybe some were paranoid with the government? Several is very abstract. There are several people on planet Earth, there are several M&Ms in a bag, and there are several people that I work with. They all have abstract meanings which are very subjective.

Well, I actually never said one couldn't miss. A shotgun is an intimidating weapon. It'd take a ****ing idiot to keep coming at a shotgun in the close quarters of someone's home.

Double-bbl shotguns are obsolete technology. If you like to buy them for collector's purposes, great.

But for home defense, there is no need or reason to limit yourself to a weapon that is excessively heavy (two steel barrels) and gives you only two shots before reloading.

A semiauto or pump shotgun has far more utility for home defense, and doesn't put you so far behind the curve as compared to the weapons technology the intruder is likely to possess.

Well... Right up until the little old lady in question shatters her collar bone trying to fire the damn thing.

Isn't that why you'd normally saw off the barrel for close in work?

That is a legitimate concern for the elderly. In my mother's later years I ended up loaning her a small semi-auto pistol she could handle... the shotgun was just too much for her.

Not really.

For one, the BATFE takes a dim view of sawn-off shotguns, unless done by a gunsmith... and if it is sawn off too short you'll need a special tax stamp to make it legal.

Second, yeah if you shorten the bbl enough you get more shot spread... but you lose accuracy and penetration to some degree. Sawing a shotgun off short enough that you get a lot of spread at indoor range (ie 20' or less) could create gaps in the shot pattern that could be enough to generate a miss too. Generally speaking, it just isn't such a great idea IMO. Reduced bbl length for greater maneuverability indoors is one thing... but I think you're still limited to 18" legally for the most part, and your shot spread still won't be all that huge.

Better to just learn to aim the thing, and plan on aiming at the intruder's center of mass. There is no substitute for accuracy.

Hollywood is one thing, reality is another. Sorry, Joe, but I'd rather have a woman that can control her weapon and put as many follow up shots as needed on target versus one who can only fire one or two uncontrolled "blasts" into God knows what.

*Disclaimer: I fully realize that this video is not indicative of ALL women. There are those who can outshoot the best of the boys, but this is nonetheless a sampling of what can occur to smaller, untrained shooters attempting to use weapons with heavy recoil.

That's a GR8T video!! Thanks.

Four people charged in a house here all armed with guns, if the resident had only possessed a double barrel he would be dead. Instead he killed two and wounded the other two with his handgun

That's a good point. You think a little old lady with no experience would have managed that? ;)

Sorry, guys -- as much as I respect your opinions (which I think are correct, by the way), I'd still put my money on a shotgun -- and never having to fire it. Even four guys would have to be stone cold nutz.

A shotgun would knock an old lady down with the first shot

You have no idea how it might have turned out. It could be that one lady would have fired the shotgun and all the perpetrators ran for their life, you don't know.

I doubt it, but if they did fall down it might keep them out of being shot by return fire.

What a right-wing biased thread. The Obama administration is rumored to be in favor of banning all guns and wanting to take guns out of law-abiding citizen's hand. For this they are crucified. Here they recommend a citizen actually purchase a gun and look at the response.

Anecdotal evidence, confirmation bias, etc etc

O hell why bother people who care about having standards for their information are already ignoring this and those who don't won't care about the fallacies that make that information worthless.

Responsible gun owners do not react to "problems" by going to the porch and blasting a couple of rounds. ;)

I guess you didn't really understand what biden the buffoon was really saying

he was trying to argue in favor of banning anything that holds more than a few shots
