Canadian are generally not known for their perfect voices (aside from a few stellar ones) but we certainly have some of the best songwriters ever.

Have to include Neil Young as a prolific songwriter.

Perhaps the best song ever written?

Shame she suffers from writer's block. I guess genius like this does not happen easily.

My favorite sock-hop song in junior high:

Yes, my friend. I would certainly agree with you that this is probably the best song ever written. One of them, anyway.

I was able to find it on Youtube, not blocked.

And I absolutely love her voice. It is just as clear as a bell. Love her.

I've ALWAYS adored this song. Makes dying seem wonderful and romantic.

This is one of the more powerful compositions I know, from a man's perspective.

Short and direct, with no wasted words or notes. Just a man & his guitar. It cuts straight from the heart, is a bit dark, and evokes not just love lost, but love chased away. If you ever really loved someone, but for no reason but yourself you chased them away (for whatever reasons as men we seem to do this), this is the song for you!

It got only moderate airplay at best back in 1970, even though it was from a blockbuster album (CSNY Déjà vu). It then seems to have pretty quickly drifted-off into obscurity. It's been decades since I heard it on the air.

I used to regularly sing & finger-pick it on an acoustic, but sort of drifted away from it myself. But I still remember every note & nuance - well.

Enjoy!

Four and twenty years ago, I come into this life,
The son of a woman and a man who lived in strife.
He was tired of being poor and he wasn't into selling door to door
And he worked like the devil to be more.

A different kind of poverty now upsets me so.
Night after sleepless night, I walk the floor and I want to know- why am I so alone?
Where is my woman can I bring her home? Have I driven her away? Is she gone?

Morning comes to sunrise and I'm driven to my bed.
I see that it is empty and there's devils in my head.
I embrace the many colored beast. I grow weary of the torment, can there be no peace?
And I find myself just wishing that my life would simply cease.
