My brother passed away two-and-a-half years ago at the age of 35. He left behind a son who is now 6-years-old. My brother and my nephew's mother were not married and they decided to give their son his mother's last name. My immediate family's name was going to end with myself (being the last male in my immediate family), as I will not have children. My sister is married, so she has a different last name, and she is not able to have children.

When my brother passed away there was a little bit of time when my sister and I were experiencing tough times with our nephew's mother. We were very concerned about keeping our nephew in our lives and making sure everything our brother wanted for his son was going to happen. After taking some time away from each other to clear our heads we resolved all the issues and decided my nephew was a priority for all of us and that is what we would focus on. It has been going very well and now we all spend holidays together as one family. (My nephew's mother has three other sons and a fiance now.)

Tonight when we opened gifts, my nephew's mother handed my sister an envelope. My sister opened it and pulled out documents that will legally change my nephew's last name to be the same as my brother, myself, and my sister's maiden name.

I do not like people seeing me cry, so I had to go outside to the garage.

Best. Gift. Ever.

Glad to here it, Alex. Have a Merry Christmas.

There aren't enough PlayStation 3's in the world to beat that gift.

I'll let the Avett Brothers say what I mean:

Murder in the City said:
Make sure my sister knows I loved her
Make sure my mother knows the same
Always remember, there is nothing worth sharing
Like the love that let us share our name
Always remember, there is nothing worth sharing
Like the love that let us share our name
