In an interview with Glenn Beck, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson declared that if elected, he wouldn’t eliminate the Department of Education, as parts of the conservative movement have long urged. “I actually have something I would use the Department of Education to do,” he said. “It would be to monitor our institutions of higher education for extreme political bias and deny federal funding if it exists.”

This nutter never ceases to amaze me

Ben Carson is simultaneously a gifted physician and an utter moron.

ahh.. now , as if by magic, the fairness doctrine becomes a bad thing.
hilarious., but not unexpected.

you can't hit liberals in the their recruitment/indoctrination centers without making them mad.

they should be mad at the indoctrination of extreme bias in academic centers... but that's asking too much i'm afraid.

but the fairness doctrine was just peachy when ya'll were using to go after right wing talk radio..... what happened?....why the change?

No, actually it wasn't a good thing. Most liberals oppose it, which is why in 2009 when they could have passed it again, democrats didn't even try.

for a guy who claims everybody is hitler he sures seems to agree with him alot

What's this "y'all"? I've never agreed with the FD.

The reason the FD was ever mentioned regarding RW radio is because it is largely disseminated on public airwaves. And even then, it didn't hold water.

Might have been a bad lot, but he does seem to have understood a lot about how humans and society worked.

What else do you agree with Hitler about?

I don't know if you supported it before or not.. but i suspect to see Democrats/liberals coming out in droves saying they never supported it.

how did you go from him talking about political bias to...Hitler talking about religion in schools?

because thats what he means by "political bias", is secularism and progressivism, hes not talking about liberty university, or bob jones university, hes talking about teaching creationism in public schools

Government should not take political positions, which is quite different to taking a factual stand.

But his opinions are hopefully irrelevant.

Why not just get the federal government out of colleges altogether?

No funding, no say.

If the college cannot make it on it's own/state funding/other funding...then it dies.

why not just outlaw schools altogether? im sure the churches will teach these kids all they need to know

That is often the problem, where the state decides, how to reinterpret the Constitution. Just look at the new bigots. Those guys have done it on massive scale.

Certainly removing schools from the public sector would make sense.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean

why so you can ban people from teaching evolution? we used to have only private schools, that didn't work so now we have public schools for everyone.

Though, I don't think the states should maintain many colleges either. The good ones are private.

Just look at the repercussions from the reinterpretation of the First Amendment. This is a very much general problem and Carson's comments are only a very small sliver that is pointless to look at separately.

you mean the constitution that says only whites are allowed to vote and you can own slaves? that one? why do you want to go back to the original one so much?

I somewhat understand your point, being that it originated with the MSNBC and Air America crowd, but what point is there in the fairness doctrine when talk radio is for morons in the first place? Oh goody. Instead of talk radio being populated solely by morons on the Right, now we can get morons on the Left as well?
