The migrant crisis in Belarus has failed to undermine the European Union despite the suspected intentions of the regime in Minsk, the president of the European Commission has said. Ursula von der Leyen said it had created solidarity between the EU and the three countries on the front line, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. She said international agencies were working on taking the migrants back to their home countries. Poland, which has continued to report attempted crossings of its border, said it was willing to help finance the return flights if the situation continued to ease. People’s lives were put at risk after they were “lured to the Belarus border under false pretences,” Ms von der Leyen said on a visit to Lithuania on Sunday. The EU will treble funding to the three countries for improved border security, including through drones and electronic surveillance, she said. “Lukashenko has failed in his bid to undermine EU unity and solidarity,” she said. “We are facing down his hybrid attack, all together. “But we are also well advised to learn the lessons. To deflect away from our internal problems, our opponents do not shy away from waging hybrid attacks on us.”

It seems Lukashanka's scheme to flood the EU with economic migrants that he has trafficked-in has failed.

Russia is much poorer and did not get involved in the invasion and overthrow of the Iraq government. Creating the conditions people want to leave. Europe and the US should take responsibility for the people whose lives they ruined

Depends on what Luka wanted. If one of the things he wanted (and it probably was) was for Poland and Lithuania to close the borders, he got it. Now opposition politicians can't sneak in and out of Belarus from their exile in Poland or Lithuania anymore.

Luka was able to troll Europe and get his neighbors to solve a problem, I am sure he considers that a win. Now he's stuck with the migrants though, not sure he wanted that.

Germany has accepted and will probably continue to accept refugees who qualify for political asylum.

The Iraqi's being trafficked by Lukashenka are economic migrants. They are under no threat at home in Iraq.
