Begun the fish war has

Please don’t mention whiskey, I drank most of a bottle last night and now my head feels like it got run over by a tank 😭😭😭
Was it good stuff of something like JD or wild turkey?

LOL, Europe is going to rip themselves apart... over fishing and trade.

boneless please.

1) The Cornelis didn't start the issues this thread talks sbout. They started months ago.

I take it you didn't properly read what I wrote?

Fisheries have just become a hot topic for the EU because it is an area where the UK can hit back hard enough to hurt the EU.

Yes Europe buys British herring but Brits don't eat it. We eat a lot of cod which doesn't live in our waters much. I can imagine herring living full lives in the sea, safe from a French trawler net will hurt the EU because they ain't being eaten here on UK soil.

the rights of 1000's of Brits who have lived in other EU countries for years instead of turning them imto instant aliens.

What?

Both sides are testing the boundaries of the Brexit agreement to gain polotical popularity at home.

About the one thing you got right.

To be fair, Macron is basically no different in this whole shebang, applying the same sort of tactic in pursuit of his own gains.

Sorry, didn't see this quote before. Absolutely Macron is playing politics, same as Boris does. Macron has greater external threat to his second term than Boris to his leadership (except that Boris's main threat to his future is his own incompetence).
People like Boris though, largely he has the Brexit honeymoon cushioning him.

The reality is that the fishing industry in either country, certainly where this Channel spat is concerned, is practically devoid of any measurable economic impact in either country and the EU in general doesn't give a shit over it.

Ironic isn't it, however it does show that there are some within the EU who would happily find opportunity to kick the UK when they can.

Well, with regard to the last sentence I fall back on what you already aptly pointed out, namely that this particular spat was actually initiated by the UK.

But that notwithstanding, the belligerence then shown, all the way to threatening to cut off the power supply to the Channel Isles, was something everybody needed like a hole in the head.

It's embarrassing to have to watch this locker room dick-size competition and, from everything I get to hear, there are a load of shaking heads in Brussels over it as well.

That BoJo's Britannia is attempting to waive the rules in many other instances as well cannot really serve as an excuse for everybody else to act like pricks.

The EU hate the fisheries part because they messed up the deal but can't publicly admit that to their voters.

The UK certainly has the upper hand, which is probably the reason Macron is so peed off.

Exactly how does UK has the upper hand? UK was the one caught fishing without license after refusing to grant licenses to the French. Don't see how that's an upper hand.

Apart from the apparent lack of a spell checker making for some gibberish

Stop acting like the class nerd.

Your post is cringeworthy.

Why not attempt an intelligent response to the opinions he/she has expressed?

The poster makes some very valid points.

No surprise there.

I was referring to the provisions in the Brexit agreement regarding fishing, not the French seizure of the Cornelis.

Fishermen in both UK and France feel the deal screwed them over. British fishers who actually had exports to France and Benelux as an important part of their business lost out, because fresh fish needs to get to the store quickly, and EU border policies makes that impossible, so they basically lost the export part of their business. They are also pissed that EU fishing vessels still can apply for licenses in British waters, not at all what they wanted. The French fishers feels they were equally screwed. They feel the British are not holding up their part with granting licenses, and frankly they don't think they should need a license for waters they have fished in for decades. If you ask anyone in the fishing business on either sidfe of the Channel they say the deal is shit.

How are they going to block a rail tunnel with boats?
I see a problem here.

They have trucks too. At least that's my guess. Would be hillarious if they block it with a boat though.

The UK would probably be better off under Jar Jar Binks than Boris Johnson.
Blame it on the German lady then, she's the one who anointed Boris as PM.
