Oh, good grief. Sorry, but no matter how badly you want "wokeness" to hurt companies, that almost never happens. Boycotts, left or right, have little impact on companies.

I don't know how you missed it, but retail in the US has been on the skids for years now. Target didn't suddenly decide to close stores in April of this year because a handful of bigots causing trouble in June.

Meanwhile: The vast majority of Americans just don't care enough about politics to know about these boycotts. They're generally aware of values (which is why companies are pretending to be "woke"), but that's a fairly vague and weak attachment.

Of that small minority that cares about politics enough to know about a boycott, most can't be bothered to actually inconvenience themselves with a boycott.

Of that even smaller minority that can be bothered to do so, most only do so for a brief period of time.

Almost every call for a boycott barely gets off the ground in the first place.

And of course, the most successful right-wing boycotts you can name barely made any sort of dent in actual company policies. E.g. Target didn't yank all its Pride merchandise, and won't do so next year. Disney hasn't stopped casting minorities in lead roles, despite all the white grievance it causes. AB-InBev is so diversified that a major hit to a big brand barely dented earnings.

So. Barbie has pulled in $1.3 billion so far, despite conservative boycotts. The biggest conservatron hit lately is "Sound of Freedom," which has made around $115 million. Do you think Hollywood is going to switch to making conservative films, or nah?

One revenue drop in 6 years is "Target not doing great?" Most of that was because inflation is finally starting to bite consumer spending, as well as people shifting their spending to travel. Pretty much all retailers are facing these issues, except those perceived as offering bargains.

Let's not forget that a significant part of the backlash to those companies isn't from the right, it's from the left, which saw them as fickle friends who didn't want to defend their rather thin pro-LGBT efforts.

As to Disney? Again, they rarely lose money; in this quarter, they only lost money because of one-time charges linked to losing certain streaming rights. They lost streaming customers not because of conservatives, driven by white grievance, screaming about "wokeness," but because they lost the rights to Indian cricket matches. Theme park revenue is up 13%.

What about the other "woke" companies targeted by the right over the years? A conservative ETF has a list of companies it refuses to invest in -- Apple, Bank of America, Nike, Walmart (?!?). Guess what? Those companies gained $832 billion on the stock markets since they were "blacklisted"... and the ACV ETF is underperforming the S&P 500. (It also has very high fees, which is why its AUM is relatively low.)

It's a movie about existential angst and the portrayed answer to the problem goes beyond social categories. The message is actually universal.
