Baltimore Murder Rate Drops as prosecutor vows ‘you will go to prison’

Mandatory minimums don't require enforcing. They're automatic. That's the whole point.

They do require conviction on specific charges, if those charges aren’t presented then they don’t apply.

Why is @anatta singing the praises of a gun grabber State's Attorney and a Democrat run war-zone City of Baltimore?

Because it supports their historic narrative that never comes through: the answer to crime is more punishment.

It's often a combination of both. Given the fact we have the highest incarceration rate and population in the world, enforcement alone is clearly not the solution.

Yep, but we don’t have ‘until rehabilitated and better educated/trained for employment’ sentences.

The US already incarcerates more citizens than any other country and yet people think this isn't enough?

Crime will never be zero however harsh the justice system becomes.
Maybe, just maybe the US could learn from other countries that have a tiny fraction of the recidivism.

Maybe treating people like utter shit while in prison isn't the best thing to do and certainly making it almost impossible for former inmates to get a decent job is a total disaster.

Change the system.

hey that's all well and good. and the poor folks stuck in Balto need all the help they can get.
sadly it's a shithole But the crime reduction itself comes from enforcement

Thanks to federal funding, Mayor Scott's program is reaching them, and in a way the National Guard really can't.

Well, its been 30 years since this wildly popular, at the time, bill passed, and the outrage over the damage it caused has passed, so maybe its time to bring it out yet again:

3 Ways the 1994 Crime Bill Continues to Hurt Communities of Color

And you know this how?

Plea deals (bargains?) are left up to the prosecutor. While they are used in the majority of cases, they can include reduced charges and/or reduced sentencing ‘recommendations’.

Yes, the rates and terms of plea deals vary significantly by individual prosecutor, prosecutor's office, and jurisdiction. Prosecutors have immense discretion in deciding whether to offer a plea agreement, what to offer, and when to offer it, which leads to substantial inconsistencies in how cases are resolved.

That's because our prison system isn't geared toward rehabilitation. It is geared to making bad criminals worse.

Partly, but also because judges can’t impose such (indeterminate duration) jail/prison sentences.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Okay cowboy.
That's not what happens in cities.
Well, Bloodymore is a shithole blue city in the shithole blue state of Marylandstan whose Senators support MS-13 wife beating gang bangers over US citizens.

Leaving that shit hole was the best thing we ever did.

If “grabbing guns” worked then why bother to incarcerate ‘prohibited persons’ who were found to have been illegally armed?
They tried to do that but Daddy Joe pardoned his crackhead son.

I also ‘voted with my feet’ and left the state of Maryland.

Yep, and he didn’t rely on one of his co-presidents to do so via autopen.
Word is that is the only one he actually signed. And Hunter was involved in the auto pen signatures that pardoned the rest of the family.

I don't understand the point of this thread. Are there places out there where people think they can just commit dangerous crimes free from consequence?
Kind of. The existence of plea deals and other incentives often reduce any time you may serve. Everyone knows that and I'm sure takes advantage of it.

I live there. It doesn't change the facts. Targeting offenders doesn't stop the crime to begin with it and it breeds police corruption: We Own This City

Did you know for a lot of these guys, prison is a way of life? Going there isn't that big a deal.
What do you suggest? Just let them go?
