Baltimore Murder Rate Drops as prosecutor vows ‘you will go to prison’

I am from Baltimore and know all that "commumity policing" and junk

Why has crime dropped preciptuously in the last 3 years? It aint the policing it's the Baltimore States Atty targeting violent re-offenders

READ THE OP

I live there. It doesn't change the facts. Targeting offenders doesn't stop the crime to begin with it and it breeds police corruption: We Own This City

Did you know for a lot of these guys, prison is a way of life? Going there isn't that big a deal.

He's a gun control advocate.

In July 2023, amid a mass shooting in Baltimore that killed two and injured 28, Bates released a statement expressing his condolences and calling for gun control and policies targeting repeat violent offenders.

Man I watched Homicide Life on the Streets. it was a most excellent look at murders, and yes targeting repeat violent offenders
and putting them in jail does stop their gangbanging.. Corruption is a different animal. it's driven by the drug trade into the police force and elected officials and government as well.. the corner boys run the streets, and the money players run the governemnt and cops

Oh

My

God

hey that's all well and good. and the poor folks stuck in Balto need all the help they can get.
sadly it's a shithole But the crime reduction itself comes from enforcement
It's often a combination of both. Given the fact we have the highest incarceration rate and population in the world, enforcement alone is clearly not the solution.

You need to see We Own This City.

Like I said, prison doesn't faze a lot of these criminals. Obviously locking them up, as Bates is doing, is important. But to think that that alone is leading to lower crime rates, well, you're kidding yourself.

BTW - Did you used to post on Sunspots?

It's a bigger political and societal failure.

where you been? The perp that killed that Ukrainian woman ( latest ex) on the NY subways had a long criminal record
Where in his history he killed someone and is walking free just to kill again

Baltimore's murder rate has been dropping for three years.

Do you know what also happened in 2022? Bruen decision. MD became shall issue on CCWs. So, people can now defend themselves in Baltimore and blood isn't running in the streets.

2023 is when when Bates took Office
On January 3, 2023, Ivan J. Bates was sworn in as the 26th State's Attorney for Baltimore City.

An amazing coincidence. ;)

I don't understand the point of this thread. Are there places out there where people think they can just commit dangerous crimes free from consequence?

Yep, those with ‘let’s make a deal’ prosecutors.

But mandatory state minimum sentences have been around since 2016. Why is he taking credit for them?

Perhaps because he’s actually pressing charges (and winning the cases) which mandate using them.

I believe most of the murders happen between people who are familiar with one another, or are random. Not in the service of crime against a stranger.

But only after the crime, not preventing the crime.

Many criminals see jail as a way of life. Its not much of a deterrent for this crowd. Many already have relatives, neighbors or fellow gang members there.

But Trump says that blood is running in the streets of Baltimore.
