(Axios) Abbott orders National Guard deployment to protests

Since when is sending the Military in against the Citizenry, before a need has been established, a good idea to be cheered about?

If safety is a concern, that's why we have Civilian Policing.
No one is talking about "sending the military in against the citizenry". It is to protect the citizens and property if needed. Again, hopefully it will be a exercise, units will practice mobilizing and review procedures at their armories, then go home on Sunday.

Of course, the police are the first line of defense. But as we've seen in LA and elsewhere, they can get overwhelmed by mobs.

That seems to be the case.

Remember, Clinton, Obama, and Biden, all deported far more than Trump has. All, to no fanfare. This is absolutely Trump warring with us. Purposefully, and antagonistically.
It's absolutely provocation.

Thank you for

Thanks for clarifying arrests have occurred.

But, three arrests? The Austin PD cannot effect three arrests, without Military assistance?

CBS Austin captured footage of protesters being released from the Travis County jail. Thirteen people were arrested and four officers were injured on Monday during the protests in downtown Austin.

That was as of Monday and Saturday will likely have much larger ‘mostly peaceful’ protests.

I see you used the term "proactively", and that's exactly my complaint here. Calling in the Military against the citizenry, where there's been no activity requiring it.

Nope, I used the term “anticipation” - a prior action that takes into account or forestalls a later action.

What role do you think the Speaker of the House has to play that is unavailable to the President?
There is a process for deploying national guard troops to the Capitol and Washington DC itself. The Mayor of Washington took advantage of that, requesting national guard to assist with traffic control. The head of the capitol police repeatedly asked for national guard troops to support him, but was turned down by the capitol police board because of concerns from their leadership about optics.

Just imagine if the powers that be, including Nancy Pelosi, had done that before January 6th. We could have avoided a lot of problems. But it would have been “bad optics,” and possibly led to “escalation.” 😉

Personally, I think it’s a good idea. Anarcho-socialist crazies will be out in full force on “No King’s Day.” Arresting anyone tossing a pebble would be perfectly fine with me, because these people never plan on peaceably doing anything.
Nancy Pelosi had no power to call out the National Guard on January 6th...looks like you've been groomed by the rapey felon.

Being a foreigner, you may not know this. But the NG cannot legally be deployed to the Capitol by the President without a written request.
The Speaker of the House can make that request but the President can't?
Who would they make the request to?

Most of these riots are planned and funded. They're going to be worse this weekend. Governor should get ahead of it.

I predicted exactly that in a post about 3 days ago. I knew Texas was going to jump on it and that it would be the first to do it.

Family and friends live in Texas (though we don't discuss politics) and they are otherwise nice people but Texas is, well, Texas. I mean Texas even has dental police! It's all about control. I knew Texas could not wait to jump on the fascist wagon with Trump.

We can expect other red states to follow suit. All part of the big plan.

It's amazing what goes down in a State who's ethos is "freedom".

I'm expecting DeSantis will soon jump on this.

But, I must ask? "Dental Police"?

It appears another state's citizenry will be under the thumb of the National Guard, even while there's yet to be any violence, nor has a demonstration even occurred.

The National Guard now seems to be getting deployed "in anticipation".

This is gonna be part of the GOP playbook from now on.

Abbott's even more of an authoritarian than Trump if that's possible.

Oh well. A word of advice: don’t send a Teletuby to a fight with the Marines.
The Marines are for foreign enemies...are Teletubbies enemies? That scary to you?

The Speaker of the House can make that request but the President can't?
Who would they make the request to?
Legally, the Capitol Police Board is supposed to make the request in writing to the Secretary of Defense. The Board consists of the Architect of the Capitol, the Sergeant at Arms of the House, and the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate. They report to the Speaker of the House and the Senate Rules and Administration Committee respectively.

No one is talking about "sending the military in against the citizenry".

Then who is it the Military is "anticipating" taking actions against? Russians? North Koreans?

It is to protect the citizens and property if needed. Again, hopefully it will be a exercise, units will practice mobilizing and review procedures at their armories, then go home on Sunday.

Of course, the police are the first line of defense. But as we've seen in LA and elsewhere, they can get overwhelmed by mobs.

There's been no Texan Police "overwhelmed by mobs".

That was as of Monday and Saturday will likely have much larger ‘mostly peaceful’ protests.

Nope, I used the term “anticipation” - a prior action that takes into account or forestalls a later action.

Sorry. "Anticipation".

Anticipating crimes that have yet to occur, as a pretext justifying Military intervention.

I get your fears & concerns, but I totally disagree with bringing-in the Military against the Citizenry for something that has yet to occur.

This is the same thought process that got us The Patriot Act.

You don’t wait for the terrorists to do the terrorism before stopping them.
Trump now fancies himself as a terrorist dictator.
Take your 🇺🇸 flags down on Saturday Flag Day.

This is gonna be part of the GOP playbook from now on.

Abbott's even more of an authoritarian than Trump if that's possible.
More like another chapter of Project 2025.

No one is talking about "sending the military in against the citizenry". It is to protect the citizens and property if needed.
If that was the case, they'd be going after the LAPD.

So what was Nancy Pelosi role in dispatching the National Guard? This post...
Just imagine if the powers that be, including Nancy Pelosi, had done that before January 6th. We could have avoided a lot of problems. But it would have been “bad optics,” and possibly led to “escalation.” 😉

...says Pelosi should have deployed the National Guard like Abbott is doing in Texas.

Most of these riots are planned and funded. They're going to be worse this weekend. Governor should get ahead of it.

You haven't displayed evidence to the bolded, with respect to the expected event(s) at the center of Abbott's action.
