I agree that there’s nothing wrong with seeing depictions of and talking about different kinds of families. It’s the romantic and sexual part that’s unnecessary at that age.
At whatever age you feel it's appropriate to discuss heterosexual sexuality/romance with students, is it equally appropriate to discuss gay sexuality and romance with them as well?

Of course.

Since this has been a hot debate in the last few weeks....

At what level should public schools students begin receiving instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity?

Explain your vote (or non-vote) below, please. :)
I voted high school, but only as an elective. Perhaps with parental permission required.

Maybe in the upper grades in High School, (junior and senior year) but parents should always be given the opportunity to have their teens opt out.

Never - schools, strangers, anyone except a child's parents - have no business talking to a child, at any age, about sex.

Isn't it amazing that people who are confused about life in general, so much so that they can't even define what a woman is, think it absurd that parents would object to them psychologically assaulting children??

These are the same people who are offended at hearing pronouns.

This leftwing, woke nonsense needs to be put down; and since the left only understands violence - that's where all of this will end.

At whatever age you feel it's appropriate to discuss heterosexual sexuality/romance with students, is it equally appropriate to discuss gay sexuality and romance with them as well?
Not some stranger talking to my kid. I don't want anyone talking to my kid about anything other than history, science, math, and other legitimate academic topics.

Sex is not an academic topic - especially perverted sex.

As a parent, when I feel they are ready, I will talk to them.

Nah. They'll see everything on the internet.

Of course it is an academic topic - without it there is no history, science, math, politics, or civilization.

Define "perverted" sex.

Folks, what you need to understand is that premature sexualization is critical in breaking down a society.

The Soviets invested decades in developing strategies, tactics, and grassroots organizations for destabilizing target societies.

They called this the process of demoralization, or active measures.

They began attacking the United States over 70 years ago, and systematically changed our educational curriculum, infiltrated school boards, and from the top-down introduced educators to Anti-American propaganda.

Common sense should tell a rational adult that premature sexualization can only have negative and devastating consequences for the children who fall victim to such an attack.

But of course, after decades of indoctrination, too many American parents are themselves unable to understand the devastating consequences of premature sexualization.

None of this is innocuous - the intent of these people trying to introduce sexual topics to children is to harm them psychologically - to create dysfunctional, maladjusted adults who can be easily controlled and exploited.

If you want to pervert your kids - go ahead. Stay the hell away from mine.

Try to talk to my kid about sex?? And you'll be going to hospital.

I would point out public sex education began in the United States after World War I before the Soviet Union's Comintern was truly established and started its mass agitprop campaigns. Public sex education in the United States was originally started as a means to prevent the rapid outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases (particularly syphilis) spread by Doughboys who went to French brothels.

Common sense should tell a rational adult that premature sexualization can only have negative and devastating consequences for the children who fall victim to such an attack.

I think people who are blinkered in their thinking or are balefully ignorant are going to end up giving that same lack of knowledge to their children. Just like those thousands of Doughboys who got syphilis and spread it like wildfire when they came back. I'm sure their dad's took them aside and told them about the birds and bees and showed them bulls and cows on the farm rutting when they were in their early teens. Few were taught about the clap.

If I want my children to know as much or as little as I do, that is as much mine and my wife's prerogative as it is yours for your children. But I think some general education on basic human biology and the things that can happen to us if we are not careful has its place.

I do not see how teaching children about the existence of something "perverts" them, wist43. Surely you do not believe that when you learned about the existence of gay people, you became irreversibly "perverted"?

I wasn't 6 years old.

And again, this is not something government should be involved in.

That there is even a discussion of this is proof of how far those of you who don't get it are removed from common sense and decency.

Direct instructional lesson? Never.

Casual chat about it during biology or civil rights or history or English, sure.

As part of an overall curriculum, civil rights or biology, sure.
