Saying god doesn't exist is saying that someone's thoughts don't exist. A god is a real as the thoughts and actions of those who may believe in a god. While I have no use for a god in my life, I cannot tell another person their belief is false. Every individual has beliefs that are real to them and I cannot possibly discredit the existence of their beliefs. Does a colorblind person not see the world as it is to them? Government doesn't actually exist except for what a collective of individuals make it to be. Without individual beliefs, there is nothing at all.

I for one would be pleased if there were limits to our ignorance on this subject. It sometimes appears that no matter how ignorant we currently are there is always a new low that some can plummet.

Anyway, good luck with the infinite regression of ignorance. Our resident Sun God believes that ignorance ends with him asserting that he is not ignorant of his ignorance.

Yep. No one knows if there is a god or not. Hell, for all we know there are thousands of gods...or none at all. It's an unknowable situation.

We can, however, be reasonable certain that certain gods, as they are defined, do not exist. But, even then, I don't think we can actually prove it. Take Jesus and the resurrection. I'm pretty sure it's bull****. But, I have no way to prove it. So, it remains an unknown. I guess.

All we have that we can take to the bank is that there is no evidence of gods or the resurrection. And, that, for me, is good enough.

Like you, I would be pleased to be more informed on the true nature of the REALITY of existence. I try not to be "ignorant", William. I acknowledge I am not always successful in that.

It appears, however, that the limits on what we (I) can know cannot be transcended.

Not sure what that last paragraph was all about...but I understand that when you speak with me, it is a word you like to use one way or another.
I really try not to be ignorant, although I readily acknowledge that I am not always successful in doing that.

Is there a way that we can someday prove that there are no gods? I dunno. Maybe. But, I have no idea how we would prove a negative.

What makes a story claiming the existence of gods any different than pseudoscience? My point is that the claim of gods was never a valid claim. And the claim of gods will remain invalid unless of course someone can make it valid. But we havent even moved to the part where the claim of gods needs to be disproved. No one actually says: 'we cannot prove that [insert make believe character] does not exist'. People only say that about gods not Mickey Mouse. Of course the fact that Mickey Mouse was only fictional cartoon character is easy to prove. We have at the very least Walt Disney asserting that he created the fictional character. That is proof that Mickey Mouse does not actually exist.

To prove that a god does not exist we only need to prove the story fictional. To go beyond that puts too much unwarranted validity on the claim. There isnt any universally accepted definition of gods. At best gods are a notion at worst they are complete fantasy. So say that gods are a notion, where did that notion come from? Historically we can deduce that the notion of gods was invented for various reasons. Things like fear, power, to explain things that one is ignorant of etc are where the notion of gods came from. Not from evidence or sound hypothesis. Historical evidence dictates that every notion of gods is based on imaginations. Sure the believers argue that fact, but again they have no evidence of their claimed gods and no explanation for how a god could exist in nature. And that is the biggest problem with the notion of gods; that if those gods exist they exist in nature as being magical. And if they are not magical then they are not really gods. And magic well we are talking about fantasy. And a smart phone isnt actual magic if it were magically shown to primitive man. They might think it magical but we know that it isnt.

How do you know such things? Wouldnt you need to be a god to know such things Frank? How can a lowly human intelligence know that you need to be magical to know about magical crap? As far as you know you wouldnt need to be a god to know such things.

Did you forget what agnosticism means? Agnosticism means that you lack the knowledge to know one way or the other about the notion of gods.
